A defense attorney, her associate and a military prosecutor uncover a far-reaching conspiracy while investigating the case of a suspected 9/11 terrorist imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for six years. That is the premise of The Mauritanian which is an upcoming legal drama film directed by Kevin Macdonald from a screenplay written by M.B. Traven, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The film is based on the 2015 novel, Guantánamo Diary by Mohamedou Ould Salahi, a true story of Salahi’s experience of being held for fourteen years without charge in Guantanamo Bay detention camp. The film stars Jodie Foster, Tahar Rahim, Shailene Woodley and Benedict Cumberbatch. Now in terms of fashion this isn’t the most boundary pushing, but there is one member of the cast I could imagine giving a chic moment. Shailene Woodley has the potential to be a fashion girl, but something is usually off. Her last appearances before the COVID shutdowns were a series of front rows during Paris Fashion Week. I feel like she could bring a chic moment to the red carpet. I went with Stella McCartney, one of the designers whose show she attended last March, but with something off the rack instead of an off the runway look. I feel like this black Stella McCartney crystal collar mini dress with strong shoulders and wide sleeves is something she would definitely be interested in. It screams simplistic modern elegance and that is something I feel like Shai would be drawn to. Now to make this a super chic moment I would love to see her style this dress with a sleek updo, defined eyes, glossy blush pink lips, black and silver glitter striped Saint Laurent ‘Zoe 115’ pointed toe d’Orsay ankle strap pumps, and simple Norman Silverman emerald cut diamond hoop earrings.
The Mauritanian is scheduled to be released Friday February 12, 2021.
