After being rumored to be in contention for the Cannes Film Festival (I even did wishes for it) and then not being selected Mandibules will screen at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. The film is about two simple-minded friends whom discover a giant fly in the trunk of a car and decide to domesticate it to earn money with it. Now it sounds like an absolutely stupid idea for a movie, but with Adele Exarchopoulos among the cast I do still hope that the red carpet delivers some major fashion moments on the red carpet. I definitely love the Patou and Valentino moments I picked for Adele Exarchopoulos to wear had this film screened in Cannes earlier this year and both of those looks are still available. So we could definitely see her rock both of them in Venice. They would be great, but I decided to go back to the drawing board and pick two new looks for Adele. Let’s start with this pink floral print Giambattista Valli Fall 2020 RTW drape cap sleeve gown which features ruched bodice and a flared hem for the films photocall. I love how sickly sweet this look is. That isn’t something Adele does very often, but I definitely think that this gown would be gorgeous on her with a sleek ponytail updo, defined eyes, blush pink lips, and a pair of bubblegum pink Gucci knotted metallic leather strappy sandals. For the premiere I turned to Miu Miu which usually has a big presence at the film festival, but it doesn’t seem like it will have as big of one this year. I would definitely love to see Adele wearing a custom version of this bold red Miu Miu Pre-Fall 2020 sleeveless column gown which features a side split and intricate lattice beading adding a train for some much needed DRAMA for the Lido red carpet. Styling this 60’s inspired gown with a teased beehive updo, defined eyes, red lips, a silver crystal embellished Miu Miu ‘Ayers’ clutch, a pair of silver Miu Miu crystal embellished slingback ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and ethical 18-carat white gold set Chopard Red Carpet Collection white diamond drop earrings with heart-shaped (14.4cts), marquise-cut (2.9cts) and brilliant-cut diamonds would definitely make this a MAJOR fashion moment for Adele to wear on the Venice Film Festival red carpet. Cate Blanchett has definitely made a splash in the past re-wearing red carpet looks. At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival she re-wore the Armani Prive gown first worn to the 2014 Golden Globe Awards (it made my Best Dressed of the Year list the first time), she’s also re-worn a major Armani Prive jumpsuit and am edgy Aoudi Couture dress that has tattoo sleeves. She told The Hollywood Reporter of her decision to repeat garments, “From couture to T-shirts, landfills are filled with garments that have been unnecessarily discarded. Particularly in today’s climate, it seems willful and ridiculous that such beautiful garments are not cherished and reworn for a lifetime.” So with such a major red platform I knew I wanted to pick a gown I would love to see Cate bring to life on the red carpet again. This teal blue custom Armani Prive cap sleeve column gown has always been one of my favorite Cate Blanchett red carpet moments. She wore this gown sneaking in the side door to a party honoring the Chopard Trophy recipients in 2014 with a gorgeous pink rosebud Chopard necklace. It was one of the looks in my final round of cuts for Best Dressed of the Year in 2014. I would love to see her give this gown a re-wear on a MAJOR red carpet. For Venice I would love to see Cate style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, bold pink lips, art deco inspired silver Gianvito Rossi ‘Freesia’ strappy metallic leather sandals, and major statement paraiba tourmaline and emerald drop earrings from the Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020. As the founder of Decade Vintage Cameron Silver would say “it’s chic to repeat” and this look would be chic defined. After taking a quick break with a Gucci ready to wear look I am back with couture looks for Ludivine Sagnier to wear over the course of her time as a jury member at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. I do really want to see lots of bold color on the red carpet in Venice and this jade green silk faille strapless Valentino Spring 2020 Couture mermaid gown which features a sweetheart neckline, cross draped bustier bodice, and a kick pleat skirt would definitely make my heart sing. It is a bolder look for Ludivine, but I want to see her really have fun with fashion at this years Venice Film Festival. Now while I love the bow detailed opera gloves the gown was paired with on the runway I wouldn’t style them with this look for Ludivine. Instead I would style this look with a romantic updo, defined eyes, nude pink glossy lips, a gold Valentino starburst metal box clutch, a pair of gold Valentino chain detail metallic strap sandals, and a STATEMENT Bulgari ‘Barocko’ collection 18k gold set ‘Lady Arabesque’ paraiba tourmaline, pink sapphire, and white diamond bib necklace to really make this look major for Ludivine. I’ve started being fantastical with my wishes for who I would love to see Armani fly out to Venice to promote the brand on the red carpet as Armani Beauty is a presenting sponsor of the festival. Today’s fantasy brand ambassador is the gorgeous Michelle Dockery. It was this electric blue, black, and flame red ombre intricately embroidered peplum halter neck ballgown from the Armani Prive Spring 2020 Couture collection that made me include Michelle in these wishes. We’ve seen Michelle wearing Armani a lot in the last year including for the Downton Abbey premiere in New York and the 2019 British Fashion Awards as well as front row at the Armani Prive Spring 2019 Couture show. I know that she would definitely deliver a Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment wearing this ballgown especially if styled with a sleek updo, soft smokey eyes, dark red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Spikaqueen’ crystal embellished PVC pointed toe ankle strap slingback pumps, and Bulgari ‘Barocko’ white diamond, black enamel, and sapphire link drop earrings. For the second look I would love to see Michelle wear if she were to represent Armani in Venice is this barely blush strapless Giorgio Armani Fall 2011 RTW sequined and beaded fringe column gown. I can’t recall anyone wearing this gown and I feel like it does deserve a major red carpet moment and I feel like Michelle would be a great person to bring this gown to life. Taking this super glam gown and styling it with a romantic updo, defined eyes, dark antique rose pink lips, a rose gold crystal embellished Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch, a pair of champagne gold Jimmy Choo ‘Mimi’ strappy wrap around sandals, and a Bulgari ‘The Colour Wonder’ necklace set in gold featuring citrine, peridot, rubellite, amethyst, aquamarine, and white diamonds would make this a simpler statement making moment.
The 2020 Venice Film Festival will open on Wednesday September 2, 2020 and runs through Saturday September 12, 2020. You can see all my Venice Film Festival wishes here.
