2020 Venice Film Festival: “Love After Love” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

Ann Hui’s Love After Love is a film that tells the story of a young girl who travels from Shanghai to Hong Kong in pursuit of education, but ends up working for her aunt seducing rich and powerful men. It will be one of the films that is going to screen at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. I am so ready to see major red carpets. Chinese actresses tend to bring major fashion moments on the red carpet and when I looked at some of the past red carpets the stars of Love After Love have walked I was hopeful they would bring some very glamorous moments to the red carpet at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. It’s been a while since Isabella Leong has walked a red carpet so I would really love to see her bring two major fashion moments to the red carpets in Venice to promote Love After Love. For the photocall I went with this antique rose pink Lanvin Fall 2020 RTW high low peasant dress which features a blouson fit, leather defined waist, long poet sleeves, and a ruffled hem. I believe this super feminine and bohemian dress is perfect for a Venice Film Festival photocall. We don’t really see couture in Venice, but a super glamorous moment like this is perfection. Soft waves, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, and nude pink Jimmy Choo ‘Saoni’ multicolor crystal embellished t-strap pumps would definitely bring this look to life perfectly for Venice. Now for the premiere I went for something more dramatic and glamorous. I love this deep purple organza and velvet Elie Saab Fall 2019 Couture one shoulder intricately embroidered ballgown and I really feel like it would be the perfect moment for Isabella to bring to life on the Venice Film Festival red carpet. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of deep purple satin and velvet Tom Ford ankle strap sandals, and Chopard yellow gold chandelier earrings set with pear shape diamonds of 7 carats each and surrounded by 24 carats of yellow briolette diamonds would ensure that Isabella brings the glamour to the Lido red carpet. Ma Sichun was last seen on the red carpets in Cannes last year where she attending the Kering Women In Motion Awards wearing an Alessandra Rich crystal shoulder detailed silk charmuse gown. She’s been front row at Bally, Gucci, and Michael Kors. So she is definitely a fashionista. I am really excited to see what she will bring to the Venice Film Festival. For the photocall I found this black velvet Gucci long sleeve shift dress embellished with a sequin butterfly at the neck and a knee length. It is a very Chic moment and I can definitely picture her bringing the look to life styled with a sleek center parted updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of black leather Gucci gold horsebit and silver chain detailed pointed toe mary-jane pumps. For the premiere I went deep into the Armani Prive archives picking this silvery grey and lizard green strapless tiered strapless mermaid gown from the Armani Prive Spring 2012 Couture collection. I would love to see Ma Sichun bring this gown to life on the red carpet in Venice with a sleek updo, defined eyes, pink lips, silver grey Rene Caovilla crystal embellished satin d’Orsay ankle strap pumps, and a statement Bulgari ‘Barocko’ collection white diamond and emerald necklace. While we have gotten used to seeing Cate Blanchett wearing Armani exclusively in Venice I want her to show us some variation in designers over the course of her time at the festival as the jury president. So when I was looking for the perfect looks for her to bring to life on the red carpet I fell in love with the idea of her wearing this Ronald Van Der Kemp Fall 2020 Couture long sleeve column gown which features a strong shoulder silk bodice, a velvet skirt, and a dramatic colorful stained glass butterfly detail on the waist. She knows to to give us glamour on the red carpet and I know that she would ooze sophistication wearing this gown on the Lido red carpet. A sleek retro updo, soft smokey eyes, soft rose pink lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Goya Ruban 80’ crepe satin and chiffon ribbon strap pointed toe pumps, and MAJOR Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020 fire opal, orange garnet, ruby, white diamond, and citrine drop earrings would pull this look together perfectly. Ludivine Sagnier has a very simple sense of style. So picking looks for her to wear in Venice wasn’t exactly easy. Regular readers will know that when it comes down it it I am all about go big or go home. That isn’t what we are going to see from Ludivine. So I had to search through the collections to find looks that I felt fit her simplistic sense of style, but also push the boundaries a little bit. Enter this black liquid sequin Giambattista Valli Spring 2019 Couture halter gown with a keyhole cutout. It is a super glamorous and sexy moment. It isn’t often we see Ludivine wearing super sexy looks on the red carpet, but I feel like this would be a great moment for her to bring to life. It pushes the boundaries just enough for Ludivine. To bring this look together I would love to see her style this gown with a sleek updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, a pair of black Alexander McQueen crystal strap sandals, and a pop of color via white diamond and emerald Cartier High Jewelry drop earrings.Today’s “Armani Girl” is the gorgeous Sara Sampaio who stars in the Armani Beauty summer ad campaign and given her history of shutting down the red carpets in Venice I would bet she will be back on the red carpet again this year. I went shopping for two major moments for her to wear on the red carpet this year. The first look I’ve picked for her is this black strapless column gown with sequined detailing and a ruffled tulle bustle train from the Armani Prive Spring 2009 Couture collection. I’ve been in love with this gown forever and I have been baffled as to why it’s never been worn on the red carpet. Sara would be the perfect person to finally give it a red carpet moment. She has the extreme glamour to really bring this look to life. I would go the full glam route with the styling of this look with a retro updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ankle strap sandals, and a selection of MAJOR Graff High Jewelry including 25cts of white diamond emerald cut drop earrings and captivating necklace totaling 131.80 carats featuring magnificent fringes of pear shape and round diamonds, with a striking, central emerald cut diamond drop. Now I also picked a simpler gown from the most recent Armani Prive collection. I LOVE this bold pink and blue Spring 2020 Couture strapless column gown which features a bandeau like corseted bodice and intricate beaded pattern. I feel like Sara would definitely bring this look to life in a very glamorous way. Soft waves worn over one shoulder, defined eyes, matching pink lips, a navy marbled acrylic Edie Parker ‘Jean’  clutch, a pair of navy crystal embellished Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ ankle strap sandals, and even more Graff jewels including white diamond and sapphire chandelier earrings and a cushion cut sapphire and white diamond cocktail ring would put this look amongst Sara’s best red carpet looks ever.

The 2020 Venice Film Festival will open on Wednesday September 2, 2020 and runs through Saturday September 12, 2020. You can see all my Venice Film Festival wishes here.
