By the time it actually comes around you are going to be so tired of me saying how badly I cannot wait for red carpets again. I feel like the 2020 Venice Film Festival will be the first event that would be able to deliver a major Best Dressed of the Year worthy contender since the Coronavirus lock down started back in March. I had edited down a list of my 10 Best Dressed of the Year so far and I wondered if that was going to be it. Now before I dive into the major couture gowns for premieres I have two wishes for Main Competition Jury members to wear for their photocall ahead of the Opening Ceremony. Cate Blanchett is the jury president this year and I am expecting a couple of major moments from her over the course of the 10 day festival. I would love to see her kick off the festival rocking a bold look from an underutilized Italian brand; Marni. I have always been a fan of Marni but the brand is definitely not one we see worn on the red carpet very often. I feel like that is in part due to the fact that the brands creations are often very avant garde. This fuchsia and red silk Marni Pre-Fall 2020 long sleeve draped dress which features a high neck, bow detailed gather skirt, and a pleated panel stood out to me immediately and as soon as I saw it I knew that Cate would be the perfect person to bring this look to life on the red carpet. Regular readers will have already seen this wish in my roundup wishes from Pre-Fall 2020. I knew that even though I had already put this look into the universe for Cate that I needed to bring it back and really detail out why and how I would style it. Cate isn’t afraid to take risks when it comes to her fashion choices and I feel like she would definitely bring this look to life with effortless ease on the photocall stage in Venice. Style it with a sleek side parted updo, defined eyes, soft nude lips, and a pair of bordeaux leather Malone Souliers ‘Molly 85’ pointed toe crystal embellished cap toe ankle strap pumps and I know that Cate would definitely kick off her tenure as Madame President in Venice off in high style. Ludivine Sagnier is a French actress who has appeared in films since 1989. She was nominated for two César Awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Supporting Actress and is now headed to Venice to serve as a member on the 2020 Main Competition jury. She has never been one I have been really excited to see on the red carpet to be honest, but I am hoping that she will live up to high expectations for this years Venice Film Festival. I feel like picking major looks from some of the top fashion houses is definitely the way to go for Ludivine. As I was contemplating looks for her to wear for Main Competition Jury photocall I thought of this electric blue Saint Laurent Fall 2020 RTW peasant inspired dress which features 3/4 length poet sleeves, a plunging ruffled v-neckline, a velvet belted waist with a thick silver buckle, an asymmetric ruffled midi hem. It was definitely the right vibe for Ludivine bold, effortless, yet still extremely glamorous. I would love to see her rocking this look with a romantic curled casual updo, defined eyes, red lips, and simple black patent leather Saint Laurent ‘Hall’ ankle strap platform sandals. It would be perfection from head to toe.
The 2020 Venice Film Festival will open on Wednesday September 2, 2020 and runs through Saturday September 12, 2020. You can see all my Venice Film Festival wishes here.
