2020 BAFTA Television Awards Red Carpet Wish List

The 2020 BAFTA TV Awards were just one on many big events to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the ceremony having originally been scheduled for Spring before the postponement was announced in March. Well on Friday we will FINALLY get this event, but it is going to look a little different. Instead the ceremony will take place in a closed studio, with Richard Ayoade presenting and the winners accepting their prizes virtually. It is the first time the awards have ever been presented behind closed doors, with the nominees invited to get involved through a combination of video link-ups and pre-recorded acceptance speeches. While I am craving a red carpet event we aren’t going to get it from the BAFTA TV Awards. When the studio event was announced I was hoping that BAFTA would be inviting winners to accept their awards in person, but alas it will be a series of live Zoom calls and pre-recorded speeches. So the four wishes below are still just a bit of fantasy. Are your ready to escape the realities of the pandemic with me?Up first is the eccentric beauty Helena Bonham Carter who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in The Crown. I adore her quirky glam sense of style. She goes to some of those labels with a punk spirit with a retro glam twist. So it was an easy choice for me to pick this black and red heart brocade Alexander McQueen Fall 2020 RTW sleeveless a-line midi dress which features a horse hair crinoline for it to be her red carpet look for the BAFTA TV Awards. Helena doesn’t wear full length gowns often, almost never to be honest, so this look definitely brings her quirky sense of style to life perfectly. Her signature unkempt but glamorous updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier strappy crystal embellished buckle platform sandals, and an antique Victorian diamond cluster necklace from UK based vintage jewelry dealer Jewellery Discovery would definitely have made this a MAJOR fashion moment for Helena.¬† Last years Best Actress winner Jodie Comer has already been confirmed that she will be a part of the virtual “pre-show” event that will take the place of a red carpet. The Killing Eve star is nominated once again for her role in the hit series of Villanelle and I am really disappointed we aren’t going to see her on the red carpet. She has been rocking looks from major coveted brands like Stella McCartney, Prabal Gurung, Tom Ford, and Mary Katrantzou so had she actually been stepping onto the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet this year I definitely would have wanted to see her continue to expand her designer repertoire wearing this major black dot sequin Valentino Resort 2021 strapless gown which features a bustier bodice and sheer skirt. I wasn’t a huge fan of this collection, but this gown is MAJOR. It is glamour and sex meshed together and I really do believe that Jodie would have been able to sell it to me with effortless ease especially if styled with a sleek center parted hairstyle tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, bold red lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ serpet ball clasp clutch, simple black Jimmy Choo ‘Metz 100’ strappy sandals, and a pair of David Morris white diamond feather drop earrings. Naomi Ackie is gorgeous. This is the first time I am featuring her, but she already had a major repertoire of designers under her belt. For the BAFTA film awards earlier this year she rocked chartreuse Valentino. It was an unexpected choice, but one that I loved. We’ve also already seen Naomi rock the red carpet wearing Christopher Kane and Stella McCartney as well as front row at Schiaparelli Couture. So when I saw her name in the nominees list for the 2020 BAFTA Television Awards I was upset that we are going to rob us oh another major fashion moment from Naomi. So far we’ve only seen her wear British designers on the red carpet, so going to this salmon pink Brandon Maxwell Fall 2020 RTW silk chiffon gown which features a pussy bow tied at the mock neck, a dramatic cape, and a flowing silhouette is definitely more of a wish than picking a safe British designer. I feel like this color on Naomi would have been PHENOMENAL. The gown on it’s own brings the drama so to make sure the look is perfection defined from head to toe I would have styled it with a braided updo, defined eyes, deep berry red glossy lips, a pair of gold Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Casati’ pearl embellished snakeskin embossed metallic leather platform ankle strap sandals, and simple Cartier ‘Cactus de Cartier’ 18k yellow gold drop earrings. Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller Bridge is defending her sweep of the 2019 Emmy’s, and all of the 2020 awards hoping to take home the Best Female Comedy Performance and Best Scripted Comedy at this years BAFTA Television Awards. I have been a slow burn to being a fan of Phoebe’s style. I still haven’t been WOWED by her. That would all have changed had she stepped onto the red carpet wearing this Givenchy Fall 2020 RTW ensemble which features a blouson sleeveless royal blue top with a plunging v-neck and thin belted waist as well as a MAJOR pink and blue ombre feather a-line skirt. I have been in love with this gown since it first walked the runway and I know that it would be a major moment for whomever snatched it up. It is definitely more avant garde than we are used to seeing from Phoebe, but I think that getting her out of her comfort zone and into something more dramatic would definitely finally make me lover her red carpet moment. A sleek updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Gianvito Rossi ‘Estelle’ PVC paneled strappy sandals, and simple sparkle via Cartier white diamond and sapphire teardrop pendant drop earrings would definitely have put this look together perfectly.

The virtual 2020 BAFTA TV Awards will take place on Friday July 31, 2020.
