2020 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 40

Well we have made it to my final set of wishes for the 2020 Met Gala. I have been really excited about all of these wishes, but today is extra special. When I had originally planned all of my archive fashion moments for this years Met Gala red carpets I decided that my final wish list was going to be nothing but archive runway moments I want to see on this years red carpet. I feel like archive moments are perfect to honor the theme of “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” What better way to honor the idea of fashion enduring than bringing something that was first presented 15+ years ago and make it fresh and modern for today’s red carpet. So the five looks that close out all of my #MetGala wishes are some of my favorite. It was really just over a year ago when Cardi B wore 3 archive couture Thierry Mugler looks for the Grammy Awards that we started seeing more and more archive Mugler moments on the red carpet. At last years Met Gala it was Kim Kardashian who blessed the red carpet wearing archive Mugler. This year I thought that after Dua Lipa snatched a look right off the Mugler Fall 2020 RTW runway for the Global Awards that she would be the perfect person to bring an archive moment from the label to the Met Gala red carpet this year. I found this pearlescent white strapless ballgown from the Thierry Mugler Fall 1999 Couture collection which features a fitted pencil gown, pointed hips, and a dramatic bustle train and fell in love. I was looking for something gorgeous for Dua and this gown which to me hearkens to the hay day of the New Look, but in space seemed to click perfectly. It is the best of classic glamour mixed with the best of the Mugler aesthetic. Knowing that Dua can handle a big gown on the red carpet makes me know she would be able to shut the Met Gala red carpet down wearing this gown. A sleek bun updo, defined eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of iridescent silver Christian Louboutin ‘Spikaqueen’ PVC detail crystal embellished ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a statement white diamond Messika High Jewelry ‘Beloved Feather’ asymmetrical collar necklace would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.I was looking at the Pierre Cardin archives because I remembered a major archive moment Naomi Campbell wore for a royal fashion event back in 2018. It made me want to dig further into the archives and pick something major this years Met Gala red carpet. I wasn’t really looking at the archive with the idea of anyone specific in mind, but just looking at moments. When I saw this brick red sequin column gown which features 3/4 length sleeve with satin bow details on the cuff I thought immediately of Julianne Moore and I knew I had found the perfect archive moment. Julianne knows how to bring structured drama to the red carpet and I feel like the color of this gown against her skin and hair would just turn me into the heart eye emoji especially if styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, an antique gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Bella’ clutch, black and gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Olga’ ankle strap d’Orsay sandals, and a pair of pink gold Bulgari ‘Diva’s Dream’ white diamond detailed chandelier earrings.Kaitlyn Dever was an ambassador for sustainable fashion during Oscar weekend this year. She wore several vintage couture gowns that her stylist Karla Welch pulled from online vintage hot spot Shrimpton Couture and then a custom eco-responsible silk custom Louis Vuitton gown. Now while last year Kaitlyn tweeted “While all y’all are at the met gala, I’m at home playing #uncharted4 with pops.” I am hoping to see her on this years Met Gala red carpet and I decided to go vintage for her to wear for this red carpet as well. I saw this black silk taffeta one shoulder bustle ball gown from the Pierre Balmain by Oscar de la Renta Fall 2000 Couture collection and immediately thought of Kaitlyn. This gown is a dramatic classic, which is perfect to compliment this years theme. A sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of black Roger Vivier ‘I Love Vivier’ pointed toe pumps, and a statement Bulgari High Jewelry  ‘Cinemagia’ collection necklace with rubellite, sapphire, emerald, diamonds and chalcedony in white gold would make sure that Kaitlyn’s Met Gala debut is head to toe perfection. I only picked two Michael Kors looks for this years Met Gala red carpet. The first was the customized Fall 2020 gown I picked for Hilary Swank. The second is diving into the Michael Kors archives for Naomie Harris. Over the years Naomie has worn several Michael Kors moments on various red carpets like the BAFTA Awards and a premiere of Spectre. As I was looking at archive Michael Kors collection I found this white crystal embellished halter gown from the Michael Kors Fall 2005 RTW collection. I knew it would be a gorgeous moment for Naomie to wear on this red carpet. Super elegant and glamorous. Now as presented the gown is gorgeous, but I would love to see Michael customize this archive moment for Naomie so that it has a really long dramatic train. I just want Naomie to ooze timeless glamour on the Met Gala red carpet. A sleek bun updo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a silver Swarovski crystal embellished Michael Kors ‘Simone’ clutch, a pair of white Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ crystal embellished ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Atelier Swarovski jewels including a pair of Penelope Cruz collection ‘Lola’ double drop earrings with dazzling pear-shaped Swarovski Genuine Topaz encircled by stunning Swarovski Created Diamonds, suspended from an oval-shaped stud and a statement ‘Azure Blue’ cocktail bracelet artfully arranged in bands around two cabochon Swarovski Created Star Sapphires, 3 rows of round brilliant Swarovski Created Diamonds surround sparkling rows of Swarovski Genuine Topaz and dangling details of marquise cut laboratory created blue Spinel and pear cut Kashmir blue treated Swarovski Genuine Topaz drops, all set in 18k white gold all would ensure the look delivers dramatic timeless glamour from head to toe. And my final wish for the 2020 Met Gala wish I dug into the glamorous Ralph Lauren archives. Like Michael Kors I picked two looks from Ralph Lauren for the Met Gala. Ralph didn’t get to present his Fall 2020 collection because of the COVID-19 crisis, but with an illustrious archive full of glam gowns I was able to make sure he was included. I saw this halter neck white silk charmuse halter gown from the Ralph Lauren Fall 2005 RTW collection (apparently a good season for white gowns) and knew that it was the perfect gown for the Met Gala. Now I went through many options of stars to wear it on the red carpet, but as soon as I thought of this gown on Olivia Munn I knew it was the perfect fit. The gown on Olivia would definite ooze sophisticated, sensual elegance. Styling the gown with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, nude pink lips, a white croc embossed satin Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a pair of white Casadei ‘Blade’ ankle strap stiletto sandals, and statement Lorraine Schwartz jewels including a pair of paraiba tourmaline and white diamond teardrop pendant earrings and a matching statement paraiba tourmaline cocktail ring would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Olivia.
