“Fashion is indelibly connected to time,” Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said in a statement about the theme of the museums exhibition whose theme “About Time: Fashion and Duration” will serve as the inspiration behind the looks we will see on the Met Gala red carpet. “It not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times, serving as an especially sensitive and accurate timepiece. Through a series of chronologies, the exhibition will use the concept of duration to analyze the temporal twists and turns of fashion history.” Some 160 pieces will feature in the exhibition, and some will offer a connection between eras or generations. For example, a black silk faille princess-line dress from the late 1870s will be paired with an Alexander McQueen “Bumster” skirt from 1995. I am really excited to see what designers and stars will do with this years theme on the red carpet.Ariana Grande made her Met Gala debut wearing a cherub printed custom Vera Wang ball gown giving us everything we have come to expect from her. Ari wears a log of gowns that really overwhelm her. I just don’t understand why or how. She could deliver really chic moments on the red carpet. I want her to give drama on the 2020 Met Gala red carpet for sure, but the right kind. I saw this baby blue Area NYC Fall 2020 RTW puff heart satin gown which features a strapless origami constructed bustier bodice and an oversized heart shaped skirt. I saw this look come down the New York Fashion Week runway and I was immediately taken with the look that brings a bit of a Marie Antoinette meets Cinderella vibe. I really do believe that Ariana would be able to sell this look to me with ease. Now I know A ri would want to have a gown with a long train, but I think that this look is perfect for the Met Gala red carpet as it was presented. Now I know the high pony is Ariana’s signature, but I would love to see her style this look with a sleek big bun updo, thick winged eyes, bold pink lips, a pair of nude aurora borealis crystal embellished Rene Caovilla satin snake-coil mid calf high sandals, and a super chic white diamond Messika ‘Desert Bloom’ Rivière collar necklace which I think would continue to evoke that perfect balance between modernity, Marie Antoinette, and Cinderella vibes to make for a major Met Gala moment. Only 17 of my 185 Met Gala wishes are for men. So when I went through and sorted everyone into the posts I was going to feature them I don’t know how the bulk of them ended up in posts over the next couple of days, three dudes in today’s set of wishes. I am really excited to see what men will bring to this red carpet because with my prediction of a lot of timeless looks on this red carpet are we going to just see a bunch of black, navy, and white tuxedos. I still want to see men take some risks on this red carpet. Eddie Redmayne has long been one of my favorite men to see on the red carpet. While the cuts that Eddie picks are usually very classic. He knows how to bring a fun element to the red carpet as well. That is why he popped into my mind when I was thinking about who could rock this white double breasted suit which features a thistle print in black with silver embroidery from the Alexander McQueen Fall 2020 Menswear collection. It would definitely be the perfect guy to wear this look on the red carpet. Now I would want to see the caramel buttons the suit was designed with swapped out with either black or white buttons to just make this look more formal. I would keep the look pretty classic with a pair of simple black leather Jimmy Choo ‘Falcon’ oxfords and his wife Hannah Bagshawe wearing a black Alexander McQueen boat neck gown with a crystal embellishments to make sure this is a superb menswear moment. Last year at the Met Gala Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner both wore matching custom Louis Vuitton by Nicholas Ghesquiere ensembles. I am sure that with Sophie’s connection to Louis Vuitton and the fact that LV is sponsoring this years exhibition and gala that we will once again see the couple on the red carpet. Now I decided not to have Joe wearing an Louis Vuitton look instead I’ve opted to put him in this maroon Azzaro Spring 2020 Couture double breasted suit which features abstract black beaded tinsel fringe on the jacket and trousers. This look which was paired with a black jersey t-shirt on the runway is definitely really cool and classic with a bit of an extra twist. I feel like that is exactly what Joe loves to turn to for the red carpet. Now I would pair this look with a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Sawyer’ leather chelsea boots with a leopard print elastic panel. I do think this look would compliment the custom Louis Vuitton look I am imagining up for Sophie to wear on this years red carpet. Now I wouldn’t talk so much about Sophie Turner and the look I want to see her wearing on this red carpet and not feature her wish. Now I want to see Sophie as Nicholas Ghesquiere to whip her up something different than we are used to seeing Louis Vuitton send down the red carpet. I saw this nude, army green, silver, and gold Louis Vuitton Fall 2020 RTW sleeveless dress which features a very futuristic inspired bodice and a full peasant crinoline style skirt and thought it was super fun. Now the runway cocktail length dress is fun, but not appropriate for the Met Gala red carpet. So how would I modify this look to be perfect for this red carpet? I would add more layers of the army green and gold leather making this a tiered a-line ballgown. Making this look hit the floor would definitely be a really interesting moment. It would give a major 80’s vibe and I think that it would be a super fun statement moment for Sophie to wear on the red carpet at the Met Gala. Styling the statement gown with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, soft antique rose pink lips, a bi-color calfskin Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ clutch which displays a central detail in classic brown LV Monogram canvas framed by a white tromp-l’oeil braid, a pair of nude crystal embellished Aquazzura x Vera Brezhneva ‘Very Vera’ ankle strap sandals, and David Webb ‘Garland’ fringe earrings made up of black jade beads and drops, brilliant-cut diamonds, 18K gold, and platinum would definitely make this look come to life for the Met Gala red carpet. I really wanted to see Timothee Chalamet on the Met Gala red carpet last year and I will continue to wish to see him on the red carpet as long as he is constantly continuing to have fun with fashion. The 24 year old actor attended the Oscars earlier this year wearing a Prada formal tracksuit and made it work. I don’t know how. On anyone else I would have hated it, but Timmy made it work. For the Met Gala I went for oversized classics with this black Balenciaga Spring 2020 Menswear tuxedo which features a shawl lapel oversized jacket, a white button down shirt, and skinny fit trousers. While Timmy could definitely wear something over the top like crystal embellishments or bold color on this red carpet I think this look from Balenciaga is the perfect meshing of Timmy’s style and the classic air that we can expect to see come to life on the red carpet especially if paired with the neon green rose boutonniere the tuxedo was paired with on the runway and a pair of black Balenciaga ribbed leather side zip ankle boots.
