Now I had only planned to do a wish list that for the London premiere of the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, but then two things happened. The first is that I confirmed a date for the film to have a premiere in New York City and the second is that a look that just screamed Michelle Dockery and Downton to me was presented this week. So I decided that while I wouldn’t put everyone in my wishes for this premiere I would do a short one for the films premiere in New York City. I hope I am not setting myself up for failure when it comes to my expectations for Michelle Dockery to deliver on the red carpets over the course of the promo tour for the Downton Abbey movie. Earlier this week when I saw the Rodarte Spring 2020 RTW lookbook released on Social Media and I saw this nude sequined jumpsuit which features short puffy sleeves, a v-neckline, a sash waist, and elastic pant cuffs. I immediately thought of how this would be a major moment for Michelle to wear on a red carpet. I was thinking it would be cool for a late night appearance on a show like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, James Cordon, and Jimmy Kimmel. Then I saw that Downton will have a red carpet premiere in New York City and was immediately sold on the idea of this being the perfect look for Michelle to wear on that red carpet. Styling this gown with a 20’s inspired fingerwave updo, defined eyes, Chanel ‘Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême” lips, rose gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel strappy sandals, and a Jennifer Behr ‘Supernova’ crystal embellished circlet headpiece would make this a major glam moment that meshes the modern era with that flapper era that the film is set in. Joanne Froggatt is the other star of this film whom I think would bring a major fashion moment to the red carpet over this promo tour. I don’t know if I expect her to deliver a Best Dressed of the Year worthy look, but I definitely want to see her bring beautiful moments to the red carpet. For the Downton Abbey premiere in NYC I decided to go with this grey and black Marchesa Fall 2019 RTW strapless tea length gown which features ruffled organza trim which cascades into a floral accent and full midi-length hem. This gown was one that I fell in love with back in February and I don’t want to see it lost to the brands archives. We have finally started seeing the brand reemerge on the red carpet and I definitely believe that Joanne would deliver this gown on the red carpet in a really elegant manner. A black velvet Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ clutch with crystal embellishments, a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft rose pink lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Shiloh’ crystal embellished sandals, and dazzling Butani white diamond drop earrings would all ensure that this look is absolutely glamorous from head to toe.
The NYC premiere of Downton Abbey will take place on Monday September 16, 2019.
