Today is a day all about Downton Abbey. I will say that I am late to the parade as I just started binge watching this PBS Masterpiece series just a couple weeks ago. I am three seasons down and I am hoping to have it finished before the film debuts. I have grown very fond of all the characters in this series. It brought me back to creating wish lists for stars of the show to wear for awards shows like the Emmy’s and the Golden Globe’s back when the show was airing on television. The series was hugely popular racking up three Golden Globe Award wins and countless Emmy Awards. The series is now making its way to the silver screen and I am hoping that the transition is amazing. In the past television series adding a movie have flopped, but according to Gold Derby the film adaptation of Downton Abbey is a leading contender for an Oscar nomination right now with other nominations that could come including Best Supporting Actress for Maggie Smith and Best Adapted Screenplay as a Leading Contender; Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress for Joanne Froggatt as strong contenders; and Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor nominations as possible contenders. The films race to the Oscars will kick off on Monday in London when the cast is expected to take to the red carpet for the films world premiere. Elizabeth McGovern hadn’t worn a single really good fashion moment over the many years of Downton Abbey’s television run. She did only have a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination once each for her role as Countess Cora Crawley in the series. She she is an underrated character in the series. i am very interested in seeing what she has in store for us over the course of the promo tour for the movie. For the films premiere I went with British labels for almost everyone, Elizabeth included. I saw this black draped Roland Mouret Fall 2019 RTW gown which features a gold iridescent metallic thread woven through and was immediately sold on this look for her. It is a chic moment that does very loosely give a nod to the era that the show and film are set in, but in a very classic yet modern manner. I think that with a 30’s inspired wavy updo, thick defined eyes, bold red lips, a black Gianvito Rossi suede clutch, a pair of black and gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Olga’ metallic leather stripe ankle strap sandals, and antique rose cut diamond chandelier earrings from Fred Leighton would definitely finish this look off perfectly. Joanne Froggatt won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series, or Television Movie for her role as ladies maid Anna Bates in Downton Abbey. She is now a strong contender for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination according to Gold Derby. I want to see Joanne be on top fashion form when it comes to the promo tour for this film. She is actually the only star in this film that I decided to go the custom route for. She has never worn Miu Miu, or Prada for that matter, but if she is still working with Brad Goreski (whom styled her throughout the run of the series) then I think that the possibility of seeing her in the high end label is a definite possibility. For the London premiere of Downton Abbey I would love to see Joanne deliver feminine elegance on the red carpet in this custom seafoam Miu Miu strapless gown which features intricate crystal beading on the bodice and an a-line pleated skirt. This dress just screams effortless elegance and that is what Joanne has always delivered on a the red carpets. I think that taking what she does best and making sure that every detail is perfect is the key to a major red carpet moment for her. I believe that is exactly what she would have on her hands here should she style the gown with a romantic updo, simple defined eyes, punchy pink lips, silver Miu Miu crystal embellished stiletto sandals, and a pair of delicate yet dazzling David Morris diamond chandelier earrings. Laura Carmichael wore a really chic Christopher Kane ensemble this year and it inspired me to put her in the British label once again for the London premiere of Downton Abbey. She definitely has the most fashion forward look of all the cast here with this black Christopher Kane Fall 2019 RTW sleeveless column gown which features a tired trumpet peplum hem, and a red gel filled patch trimmed in rock crystals. The look is one of my favorites from the Fall 2019 RTW collections and I will be sad if it gets set to the archive, though it is not an easy look to wear. That is why I hope that Laura gives this gown the red carpet moment it deserves. Styling this gown with a sleek side parted low bun, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, black Christian Louboutin accessories including a satin ‘Palmette’ clutch and a pair of ‘Catchy’ peep toe platform leather asymmetrical strap pumps, and simple yet dazzling Anita Ko ‘Ava’ white diamond wreath earrings would make this an absolutely major fashion moment for Laura deliver on this red carpet. Finishing out this list is quite easily my favorite look from this set of wishes. Michelle Dockery is definitely the biggest fashionista in the cast. She works with one of the biggest Hollywood power stylists Micaela Erlanger and has been embraced by major labels including Prada, Armani, and Carolina Herrera. It was actually Michelle who introduced Lupita Nyong’o to Micaela. I am definitely ready to see what she and Micaela are cooking up for this promo tour. I decided to go with the idea of #GoBigOrGoHome for Michelle picking this mustard and pale pink tulle Ralph & Russo Fall 2019 RTW hand pleated ballgown featuring an asymmetrically micro-pleated strapless sweetheart neckline bodice and voluminous skirt. I can just imagine this being that absolutely major wow moment I have been craving lately. The stars at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals have honestly let me down and I am just praying that Michelle delivers that major jaw dropping moment for me on this red carpet. I think that is exactly what will happen if she stepped onto this red carpet wearing this gown with a sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, bold rose pink lips, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Optichoc’ glitter and PVC cutout ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and beautiful yellow and white diamond Harry Winston cluster earrings.
The London premiere of Downton Abbey is expected to take place on Monday September 9, 2019.
