When I was planning my wishes for the Cannes Film Festival I got to my wishes for the premiere of Pain & Glory and fell off the face of the planet. I had found the most amazing vintage Chanel Couture for Penelope Cruz to war on this red carpet in Cannes. Unfortunately I wasn’t as impressed with what Penelope actually wore. The film is about to have its second premiere in London at the beginning of next month and I am hoping that Penelope really delivers an absolutely gorgeous moment on the red carpet. Instead of searching for another vintage look for Penelope I have decided to go to the most recent Chanel collection to find the perfect dress for her to wear for this red carpet. As face of Chanel I am sure that we will be seeing Penelope wearing several of Virginie Viard’s looks on the red carpet. I decided to go haute couture for this red carpet because as I was watching the show and thinking of Chanel ambassadors wearing the looks coming down the runway my mind immediately went to Penelope when I saw this white taffeta one shoulder draped tea length gown from the Chanel Fall 2019 Couture collection which features a white and raspberry pink feathered panel going down the back. It is that 50’s approach to glamour that I know Penelope can sell with effortless ease on the red carpet and while couture for a premiere like this isn’t your norm I do think that the tea length gives it just enough of that cocktail vibe to work. As regular readers will also know I am a firm believer in the philosophy of #WhenInDoubtBeExtra. I feel like I would ditch the belt and shoes that the gown was paired with on the runway in favor of a pair of white Aquazzura ‘Temptation’ crystal and PVC detailed sling black pointed toe pumps, a sleek side pared low bun, smokey eyes, soft pink wet look but not glossy lips, and a pair of Atelier Swarovski x Penelope Cruz ‘Cannes’ ethically lab created drop earrings to really make this look glamour defined from head to toe.
The London premiere of Pain & Glory is expected to place on Monday August 8, 2019.
