I spoiled you guys over the weekend with four sets of wishes of Met Gala wishes. Sorry to disappoint you but this is the only one for today. But that doesn’t mean that I am holding back on the drama and glamour. I may only have 6 wishes today, but they are all dramatic and and perfect for this years ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme. Today’s wishes feature color, pattern, volume, and innovative construction. Susan Sontag’s “Notes on ‘Camp'” says “Camp taste is, above all, a mode of enjoyment, of appreciation – not judgment. Camp is generous. It wants to enjoy.” That is a great statement for fashion and life in general. I recently read on some InstaFamous influencers “wear your ‘fancy clothes’ as your everyday clothes.” I live in this bubble everyday. I definitely think that my personal style crosses the boundaries of classic and ‘Camp,’ which I think is why I had such an easy time picking looks for celebrities to rock on the red carpet at the Met Gala.I knew I wanted to feature the Pierpaolo Piccioli x Moncler for this red carpet. In his second collaboration with the winter coat label Pierpaolo took inspiration from Cecil Beaton’s photographs of Charles James creations. He took the puffer coat and turned it into absolutely amazing couture worthy ball gowns. It is definitely going to take the perfect person to really make a gown made out of puffer fabrication work on the red carpet. I can hear most women complaining that a gown like this will make them look wider. So of course I had to pick a super model to bring this black gown which features an portrait neckline and pink and red striping on the hem. Adut Akech is one of my favorite models of the moment and I am super excited about what she will bring to the life on the Met Gala red carpet. Last year she was a guest of Valentino so it just makes sense that she would be the perfect person to bring this avant garde gown to life on the red carpet. I think that the fact this gown is puffer coat material might be a little hot for a red carpet in May, but I would hope that Adut would do anything for the look. Her signature short hair, smokey eyes, dark ruby red glossy lips, a pair of rose pink Jimmy Choo ‘Lane’ sandals, and a selection of dazzling pink sapphire Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings and matching cocktail rings would definitely ensure this look screams ‘Camp’ glamour on this red carpet. Halsey hasn’t been to the Met Gala since 2016 when she was the guest of DKNY. The label may have gone to the wayside, but Halsey continues to deliver. I love her music and I adore her chameleon style. I feel like she could definitely own the red carpet at this years ‘Camp’ themed gala. I definitely think that we will see a great Jean Paul Gaultier moment on this red carpet and I am ready to see who will bring the brand to life on this red carpet. I was looking for the perfect person to bring this powder blue Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2019 Couture halter neck ruffled tulle high low trapeze gown to life on the red carpet, and I thought that Halsey was the perfect person to bring this look to life on the red carpet. I was going back and forth between Halsey and Miley to rock this dress, but I created a really chic custom Miu Miu gown for Miley (to be revealed in the coming days,) so it was definitely an easy choice to pick this gown for Halsey. It gives me a bit of yeehaw chic, which isn’t usually what we see from Halsey. But I think that her ability to be a style chameleon would allow this to be awesome. A blue dyed buzzed head, defined eyes, soft blush pink lips, a pair of Jimmy Choo ‘Peachy’ bleached denim platform sandals, and Samer Halimeh diamond cluster drop earrings would definitely all add to the amazing yeehaw glam of this look. Kate Bosworth always delivers on the red carpet and the Met is definitely a place where she can exercise her creativity on the red carpet. I thought about wild and crazy for Kate because I know that she has the potential to really handle the ‘Camp’ theme, but then I decided I wanted her to be a guest of Miu Miu and it became a major feminine moment for her to rock on the Met Gala red carpet. I love this grey and pink floral print taffeta tiered ball gown inspired by the Miu Miu Fall 2019 RTW collection. The sleeveless tiered scoop neck ball gown features 3D floral embellishments all over, velvet bow details on the shoulders, and a belted waist and I know it is that beautiful moment I know that is perfect for Kate as her effortless glamour would ensure this look would be drama and glamour on this red carpet. A sleek high bun, winged eyes, blush pink lips, a black Roger Vivier ‘Boite De Nuit Maharaja’ crystal and feather embellished clutch, silver Miu Miu crystal embellished strappy sandals, and Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and pink sapphire paisley drop earrings would definitely keep the feminine glamour of this look alive. I’ve said a few times over the last several wish lists that I am hoping that Anna Wintour invites at least a few drag queens to this years Met Gala. It seems that over the last year that high fashion brands have really embraced drag queen having them front row or on the runway of their shows. Miss Fame is a friend of L’Oreal Paris and has helped represent the brand at the Cannes Film Festival and recently did a front row tour during Paris Haute Couture Fashion week in January, so I am really hoping she is on this red carpet. One designer who has long embraced Drag Culture, which really is the ultimate example of ‘Camp,’ is Marc Jacobs. I definitely think that of all the brands that we typically see on the red carpet at the Met Gala that Marc is the most likely to invite a drag queen to be part of his crew. I immediately thought of this pop art print jersey gown from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 RTW collection for this red carpet because it does bring glamour and drama. I would love to see Miss Fame rock this gown on the red carpet at the Met, but I would love to see her rock a version modified to be sleeveless and have a really dramatic train. That is how I think that this could be a perfect look for the Met Gala red carpet. A dramatic vintage inspired updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a statement Judith Leiber ‘Popcorn Matinee’ crystal embellished minaudiere, a pair of red Balenciaga mesh wrap pointed toe pumps, and a pair of statement Butani diamond and ruby drop earrings would all make this a major ‘Camp’ style moment for the Met Gala red carpet. Timothee Chalamet hasn’t been to a Met Gala yet, but I have to say that I am PRAYING that he is on the red carpet at this years edition. He brings statement looks to whatever red carpet he is on and I want to see his make menswear waves on the red carpet. I decided to go for a new designer for Timmy to rock on this red carpet with this statement Dries Van Noten Fall 2019 Menswear acid colored agate print double breasted tuxedo jacket. I knew I wanted to see this suit on the Met Gala red carpet and I knew I wanted to see Timothee on this red carpet and I just thought that the pairing would make this a major look. Timmy doesn’t usually wear a button up shirt on the red carpet anymore and I don’t expect him to wear one on this red carpet. A simple black t-shirt and black boots are exactly what I expect to see Timothee to rock on the red carpet at the Met Gala. Rounding out this list is the gorgeous Yara Shahidi who made her Met Gala debut last year as the guest of Chanel. After she rocked such a high profile designer on the Met Gala red carpet already it is a bit of a stretch to put her in an up and coming label for this years red carpet. I adore the designs of Christopher John Rogers and I am hoping that since some of the big brands are reportedly not participating this year that it will open other brands up to earn major moments on this red carpet. I love this strapless printed bustier gown which features a draped coral, hot pink, and white tulle high low ball skirt from the Christopher John Rogers Fall 2019 RTW collection I think is something perfect for this years ‘Camp’ theme. I know it is definitely a risk, but Yara is a risk taker and I honestly believe that is risk would pay off especially if she paired it with a braided bun updo, smokey eyes, glossy nude lips, coral satin Manolo Blahnik ‘Fibiona’ crustal buckle mule sandals, and a pair of IVY New York mandarin garnet, ruby, and diamond ear clips.
The 2019 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May: May 6, 2019.
