Oscar week is going to be a packed week. There are plenty of major red carpets coming and I am really excited to see what everyone will bring to life on the red carpet. One of the first big events of the week is the annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. While most of the other guilds have already held their awards ceremonies the Costume Designers Guild always capitalizes on Oscar week to bring in all the big stars as presenters. I am hoping that this year the carpet will be packed, as always. Crazy Rich Asians might have been shut out of the rest of big awards season shows but the cast isn’t slowing down. The films costume designer is nominated for Excellence in Contemporary Film. I would love to see Constance Wu take to the red carpet at the CDG Awards. I imagine that the film is a favorite to win in this category and since Constance will be a presenter at the Oscars just five days later I definitely think that we will see her on this red carpet. I have been up and down, but mostly down, with her red carpet looks this awards season and I want to see her finish the season out in high style. I went for bold glamour with this red and blue Armani Prive Spring 2019 cocktail dress which features a strapless neckline, sequin and feather embellished peplum bodice, a defined waist, and a printed pencil skirt. It is a little more out there than we have seen from Constance, but on Oscar week the theme really needs to be go big or go home. The dress itself is such a statement I would just pair it with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a red satin Judith Leiber ‘Soho’ box clutch, a pair of red Christian Louboutin ‘Jonatina’ metallic leather PVC strap sandals, and Chopard diamond and ruby wing earrings to ensure head to toe perfection. Glenn Close is looking like she is going to take home an Oscar this year, but before that happens she will be honored at the Costume Designers Guild Award with the Spotlight Award which highlights an actor whose “talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design.” I have been quite interested in the looks that Glenn has worn so far this awards season. They have almost been unexpected. I would love to see her give me structured glamour with this forest green Badgley Mischka Fall 2019 RTW satin gown which features a notch lapel plunging neckline (which would probably have to be modified to be a little higher,) long sleeves, column skirt, and an asymmetrically draped peplum detail on the waist. I saw this gown and immediately knew I wanted to see Glenn bring this gown to life. While I am (most likely) going to do a custom gown for Glenn to wear for the Oscars this gown is perfect for her to wear on this red carpet. Add a chic curly hairstyle, defined eyes, nude lips, a black Roger Vivier ‘Crown Jewels’ crystal buckle clutch, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier ‘Sin Drape Cigarette’ pointed toe slingback pumps, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection diamond and emerald teardrop pendant earrings to make this look classic glamour with a modern edge. Going into awards season I definitely was rooting for Lady Gaga to take the Best Actress run all the way. That hasn’t been the case and it makes me sad. She has been delivering in the fashion sphere though, as expected. I am very excited to see what she, and her stylists, are cooking up for Oscar week. I would love to see her kick the week off on the red carpet at the Costume Designers Guild Awards. I am sure that she was a big part of the collaboration process in the creation of her characters wardrobe in A Star Is Born so I am sure that she would be on hand to help celebrate the films nominated costume designer Erin Benach. I fell in love with this rose gold Atelier Versace Spring 2019 Couture ‘Pauline’ cocktail dress which features a dramatic ruffled wing neckline and and intricately beaded skirt the moment I saw it, but for Gaga on this red carpet I would love to see her ask Donatella to make her a custom version of this dress that has a full floor length column skirt turning the cocktail dress into a column gown. I honestly believe that as a gown that this would be an absolutely major moment for Gaga to start off Oscar week. A pair of rose gold glitter Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Betty’ chunky heel platform peep toe sandals, a sleek updo, rose gold smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of Tiffany & Co. Blue Book diamond palm earrings, and a statement Tiffany & Co. white and yellow gold and diamond cuff would all add the perfect finishing touches to this look. Laura Harrier has been at all of the big awards shows where BlacKkKlansman has been nominated and I am eagerly awaiting what she will bring to the red carpet during Oscar week. She is a face of Louis Vuitton and has been wearing the brand for many of her appearances so far this awards season. However I am excited to hopefully see her branch out for Oscar week events. On the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet I am choosing to snatch a gown right off the New York Fashion Week runway for Laura. I saw the Khaite Fall 2019 RTW collection and I was IN LOVE with it. There were so many really chic moments for just about every occasion. I would absolutely love to see Laura wearing this black and nude tea length gown which features a triangle cutout bodice, puffy velvet sleeves, and pleated construction from that collection for her to wear on this red carpet. It is definite a very romantic moment and I feel like Laura has that very ladylike stature to make it work on the red carpet especially if paired with a black Louis Vuitton ‘Capucines Mini’ flower detail top handle bag, a sleek low bun updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Horizon’ logo detail ankle strap sandals, and simple yet elegant Bulgari emerald and diamond drop earrings.Rounding out the list is the always glamorous Rachel Brosnahan. She makes me want to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and the costumes just draw me in even more so I would love to see her supporting the shows costume designer Donna Zakowska who is nominated for Excellence in Period Television. I believe that because she lives in period styles during the taping of the show that Rachel tends to gravitate towards more modern shapes and styles for her red carpet appearances to differentiate herself. I want to see her give short and flirty, but very dramatic glamour on this red carpet with this ruffled red Elie Saab Spring 2019 Couture sleeveless mini dress. It is more of a shorter dress than we are used to seeing from Rachel, but something tells me that she could really work a dress like this. I would pair it with a red Gianvito Rossi box clutch, a sleek updo, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of red Gianvito Rossi three strap ankle cuff sandals, and yellow gold Hueb ‘Tribal’ diamond feather earrings to make this a totally fun look.
The 2019 Costume Designers Guild Awards will take place on Tuesday February 19, 2019.
