2019 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Are you ready for my countdown to the biggest night in music? The Grammy Awards are this Sunday night and I am really excited to see what everyone is going to bring to the red carpet. Before I started writing this post I decided to look back at my Best and Worst Dressed of the Year lists since I first started If I Was A Stylist back in 2011 to see how many times looks from the Grammy’s have featured on those lists, and the answer is just once. It was the Worst Dressed of 2015 list and it was a Jean Paul Gaultier Couture robe worn by Kim Kardashian. That honestly shocked me. I thought there was at least one Grammy’s red carpet moment on a Best Dressed of the Year list. Will this year be the one to change that? Anything’s possible.Alicia Keys is hosting this years Grammy Awards. Honestly it was a bit of a surprise when she was announced. I would have never expected her to be the host since she usually keeps a real low profile on these red carpets. Usually for female hosts I do an individual post dedicated to several wardrobe changes, but I honestly have no idea what she would wear on the stage while hosting. I did however know exactly what I wanted to see her wearing on the red carpet. I loved this black Ashi Studio Spring 2019 Couture gown which features a deep curved neckline, long sleeves with feathered cuffs, and a tulle ball skirt with a thigh high split when I saw it come down the intimate Paris Haute Couture Runway on an Instagram Live and it just screamed Alicia’s style to me. It would be a bold way for her to kick off the night especially with her curls pulled back tight and full, simple defined eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of black Azzedine Alaïa strappy suede sandals, and a selection of Nikos Koulis jewels including a pair of ‘V’ collection diamond, onyx, and emerald spiked hoop earrings, and three ‘Oui’ collection rings including an emerald cut emerald and diamond cocktail ring, an emerald, diamond, and black enamel band, and a triangle cut diamond and emerald ring. Will the Grammy Awards be Demi Lovato’s return to Hollywood event life following her overdose last year? She is nominated as the featured artist on Christina Aguilera’a “Fall In Line” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and with all the support Christina has thrown her way I think we just might. She might skip walking the red carpet and just slide in the side door to be in the room filled with her fellow artists. If we do see Demi on Sunday night I would love to see her deliver some real glam with this black and white sheer lace detailed Nedo by Nedret Taciroğlu Spring 2019 Couture strapless lingerie inspired gown. It could go a very glam route or a very tacky route and I of course want to see nothing but good things for Demi so the styling of this gown would have to be perfect to really make it work. I would add sleek slicked back hair, smokey eyes, red lips, simple black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ silver glitter strap sandals, and a pair of dazzling Amwaj diamond waterfall earrings to really ensure that she has a really glamorous moment on her hands for her red carpet return. I almost always love what Janelle Monae brings to the red carpet, but I won’t lie I wasn’t on board with her head to toe Chanel look at the Golden Globe Awards last month. I want to see Janelle, who is nominated for both Album of the Year and Best Music Video and performing on Sunday night, really deliver a moment on the red carpet. I went back to her black and white box and one of her favorite designers to pick the perfect look for her to bring to life on the Grammy Awards red carpet. The moment I saw the photo of this black and white one shoulder fan pleated sheer bodice paired with white high waisted pants with a black stripe down the sides I knew it was perfect for Janelle and I definitely think that this would be a really great moment for the Grammy Awards. I know that typically Janelle loves a big gown for red carpets like this, but this would go back to the looks that I was so used to seeing from Janelle when she first kinda burst onto the scene. I would add some fun details with a fingerwave updo, smokey eyes, red lips, a pair of black Valentino suede and feather peep toe d’orsay pumps, and Hueb ‘Luminus’ diamond cluster earrings to really ensure that this is a really chic moment for Janelle. Following The Band’s Visit basically sweeping the Tony Awards last year the original cast album has been nominated for Best Musical Theater Album and I would love to see the shows leading lady Katrina Lenk on the red carpet to represent the show’s cast. She wore a chic custom Georges Chakra Couture gown for her Tony Awards win and so I decided to turn to the designer again for the perfect look for her to wear for the Grammy’s this weekend with this hot pink Edition by Georges Chakra Fall 2018 RTW one shoulder draped jumpsuit. It is more of an edgy look than I have seen from Katrina before, but this is for the Grammy’s so I know it would work. I would need the jumpsuit to be tailored perfectly for Katrina thought. The lookbook fit was terrible. Just look at the length of the trousers and the crotch. That just isn’t acceptable for a red carpet, but I am sure that Katrina could get a really great tailor to ensure that this look fits her like a glove. It would be perfectly finished with a loose updo, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, a black Judith Leiber Couture ‘Reflection’ resin box clutch, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Peachy’ chunky heel platform sandals, and Djula ‘Harmonie’ diamond feather drop earrings. Maren Morris has five Grammy nominations this year including Record and Song of the Year. She is also performing and I have to say I am quite interested in seeing what she will wear on this red carpet Sunday night. I am not really Maren’s biggest fan when it comes to her style. I tend to find it very dated, but I didn’t really try to push her out of that zone with the gown I picked for her to bring to life on Sunday. I saw this deep purple and lilac ombre printed Julien Macdonald Spring 2019 RTW scarf inspired gown which features an asymmetrical one shoulder neckline with sing details, a faux wrap style skirt, thigh high split, and a dramatic train and thought it was definitely something that Maren would be drawn to. It isn’t a gown that would worth for many red carpets, but since the Grammy Awards are pretty much an anything goes red carpet I think it could work. A sleek low bun updo, dark purple glitter lined eyes, soft pink lips, a pair of silver glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Emily’ sandals, and Anabela Chan diamond chandelier earrings would all make this one of the more interesting looks Maren has worn on a red carpet. “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA is nominated for four Grammy Awards and I am wondering if the two will be on hand Sunday night to support their song. It has come under some scrutiny for copyright violations. Despite all that it has been nominated for Grammy’s, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar. We saw SZA show her fashion chops last year giving us angelic vibes wearing a white Atelier Versace princess gown and I have gone in a very different direction for what I want to see her wear this year. I decided to go with this Alexander Wang Fall 2019 RTW ensemble which features a white, black, and purple printed oversized polo shirt and a peridot green satin pencil skirt with a side split. It was honestly the first thing I thought of when I thought of SZA’s style. She loves sexy but oversized looks and that is exactly what this look is. I went round and round in my head trying to figure how to elevate this more casual look for the Grammy Awards red carpet and I think that adding sleek center parted locks, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of of Balenciaga ‘Knife’ graffiti print pointed toe pumps, and dazzling Jacob & Co. ‘Cascata’ multi-color sapphire and diamond drop earrings would do just that.

The 2019 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday February 10, 2019.
