2019 amfAR New York Gala Red Carpet Wish List

Every February New York Fashion Week kicks off in high style with the annual amfAR New York Gala. We tend to see all the stars who will make the rounds over the course of the rest of fashion week on this red carpet, sometimes they even give us sneak peaks into upcoming collections. One day I want to put on my tuxedo (one that is bold in color, texture, embroidery, or embellishments) and attend this gala when I am actually in NYC for fashion week. Alas I am not there this year and so I will have to enjoy all the fashion from my couch with my laptop. There have always been some really great moments on this red carpet. In February it can be hard to make the months Best Dressed lists since there are so many major events, but I am hopeful that with some of the stars expected to attend this Gala on Wednesday that we will be in for some major fashion moments on this red carpet. Alessandra Ambrosio is an amfAR Gala regular having attended the galas in Hong Kong and Cannes last year. For both of those red carpets Ale opted for custom Tommy Hilfiger gowns. Really good custom Tommy Hilfiger gowns, and honestly we could see her wearing the designer again on Wednesday. However I wasn’t able to craft a custom gown based on things from Tommy, so I turned to another of Alessandra’s favorite designers: Zuhair Murad. I definitely believe that Alessandra would be drawn to this iridescent white Zuhair Murad Spring 2019 Couture one sleeve column gown which features bias embellished cross-hatched sequin details, a strong shoulder, and a thigh high split. It is her standard style, but when it works it works. Add a white lace Christian Louboutin ‘Palmette’ silver threaded box clutch, sleek hair tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Predupump’ pointed toe pumps, and Nirav Modi ‘Luminance‘ diamond drop earrings to ensure this look is head to toe perfection. Chloe Sevigny is always one I am interested in seeing on the red carpet. She wears a lot of really interesting fashion and loves to make a statement. So when I saw that she was one of the event chairs of this years amfAR New York Gala I got really excited. We tend to mostly see brands that typically show at New York Fashion Week on this red carpet. So while Rodarte is stepping outside of NYC again and showing their Fall 2019 RTW collection in LA on Tuesday they are fundamentally an NYC based brand. So I decided to snatch this black Rodarte Spring 2019 RTW ensemble which features a dramatic ruffle tulle bustier top and sheer hand embroidered tulle tea length handkerchief skirt up for Chloe. This look screams her dark avant garde style and I could see her really bring it to life of the red carpet especially if she paired with with a sleek high ballerina bun, smokey eyes, red lips, a black Chanel logo acrylic box clutch, black Chanel crystal embellished logo detail sandals, and Samer Halimeh emerald cut diamond art deco inspired drop earrings. I have always said Heidi Klum would attend the opening of an envelope as she is always on major red carpets even if she has no real reason to be there. As long as she brings something glamorous I don’t mind, but often enough she doesn’t. Last month at the Golden Globe Awards she stepped out of her skin tight naked dress style wearing a Monique Lhuillier lingerie bustier ballgown detailed with 3D multicolored flowers. I applaud her for stepping out of her standard comfort zone, but nothing about that look worked. It was too twee for her and her hair and makeup didn’t help the case either. She is on the host committee for the amfAR New York Gala so I would expect that we will see her on this red carpet. I want to see her bring a really major sexy glam moment, that doesn’t come across as desperate. That is why I turned to this red Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2019 ruffled silk gown which features flowing cape sleeves, a deep plunging v-neckline, cinched waistline, and a pleated full length skirt. This gown is sexy without being too much. I always love the more glamorous side of Heidi’s style and I believe that this would be an absolutely glamorous moment for her to bring to life on this red carpet. Add a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red Christian Louboutin ‘Catchy Two’ asymmetric strap peep toe platform pumps, and a statement Lorraine Schwartz diamond collar necklace and Heidi would definitely be back in my good graces. Karolina Kurkova is another of my favorite models to see on the red carpet. She knows how to bring bold glamour to the red carpet and do it with ease. She used to wear a whole lot of Marchesa and as I have said I think it is time we start seeing stars wearing the brand on the red carpet. Karolina would definitely sell this peach pink Marchesa Pre-Fall 2019 ensemble which features a sleeveless ostrich feather detail lea length gown designed with a plunging neckline, seed bead embellishments, and a floral embroidered grid and a matching feather rimmed capelet to me. She knows how to bring these dramatic moments to life. Some could get lost in these feathered designs and I believe that Karolina has the presence to make this gown come to life on the red carpet. A simple pair of gold metallic leather Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals, sleek updo, simple defined eyes, antique rose pink lips, and a pair of gold Anita Ko ‘Ava’ floating diamond stand stud earrings all would perfectly compliment this moment for Karolina. Kelsea Ballerini will join The Chainsmokers on stage at the amfAR New York Gala to perform their hit song “This Feeling.” I have said a few times that Kelsea is one of the first country music stars who is really being embraced by fashion. She has worn looks from Michael Kors, Zac Posen, Balenciaga, Emporio Armani, and Brandon Maxwell over the last year. So I have high expectations about what she will wear on the red carpet at the amfAR gala before jetting from NYC to LA for the Grammy Awards. I turned to a very visual gown with this teal and rose bronze J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2019 strapless metallic stripe a-line ballgown which features a sweetheart neckline with a gathered bodice, and a pleated A-line skirt for her to wear on this red carpet because a gown like this isn’t right for an awards event, but I think it is perfect for Kelsea. It is fun and youthful and I definitely think it could be something that Kelsea would absolutely love. I would style the gown with a romantic wavy bob, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a black, silver, and gold Judith Leiber Couture ‘Star Kaboom’ crystal embellished tassel detail minaudiere, strappy Stuart Weitzman ‘Hester’ platform sandals, and a pair of yellow and black gold Nikos Koulis ‘Fame’ drop earrings with white diamonds and yellow sapphires to ensure it is head to toe perfection. Milla Jovovich is being honored at this years amfAR New York Gala and I am super excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. There was a time when I LOVED seeing Milla on the red carpet but it has been a hot second since she has really had a major year of fashion. She has 3 movies expected this year and so I want to see her kick the year off in high style. She would do just that stepping onto this red carpet wearing this emerald green Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2019 sequin embroidered tulle gown which features a belted waist, plunging v-neckline, long sleeves, and a fitted silhouette with a fluted skirt. I love Milla in Elie Saab and this gown would definitely be right in her sexy glam style wheelhouse and with a romantic updo, smokey eyes, red lips, an emerald green Isla crystal embellished box clutch, a pair of green satin Gucci ankle strap d’orsay pumps, and Bulgari yellow gold set emerald and diamond chandelier earrings I know that this would be an absolutely amazing moment for her to wear for her red carpet return.

The 2019 amfAR New York Gala will kick off New York Fashion Week on Wednesday February 6, 2019.
