We are a week and a half away from the 2019 SAG Awards. In the hierarchy of awards seasons red carpets this one ranks below the Golden Globe Awards, but higher than the Critics Choice Awards. On both of those previous red carpets stars really showed up bringing their a-game to the red carpet so that makes me very excited to see what will come on SAG night. The SAG’s are also a great predictor of who will win the Oscar in the acting categories. This is where the field of front runners stars to narrow and we start to see a single horse take the lead. Does it always happen? No, but it is a great predictor. Alison Brie is nominated both individually for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series and nominated with her GLOW co-stars for Outstanding Performance by an Acting Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 2019 SAG Awards. I loved Alison’s soft romantic princess moment earlier this month in custom Vera Wang at the Golden Globe Awards. It was perfect for that red carpet. The SAG Awards isn’t really a princess moment red carpet. The air is more relaxed because it is a night where the actors are celebrating other actors. That is why I went simpler for Alison with this bold yellow Versace Pre-Fall 2019 silk crepe column gown which features a single billowing sleeve, gold safety pin embellishments on the waist, and a thigh high split. It is similar in silhouette to the Dundas gown that Alison wore for the SAG Awards last year, but the style is different enough that I don’t think that there would be any comparisons. I think that with the color of the gown being so bold that styling this gown very simply with a sleek bun updo, smokey eyes, soft red lips, a pair of matching yellow Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Sofia’ sandals, and Alison Lou ‘Cocktail Drops’ in yellow sapphires would really ensure that this is another gorgeous moment for Alison. Emma Stone will most likely not take a night off from wearing Louis Vuitton for a major red carpet, and if she does it will probably be wearing something from Givenchy. But when I was looking for the perfect gown for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture nominee I decided to go outside of both of Emma’s favorite brands. I saw this Dries Van Noten Spring 2019 RTW silk gown which features a strapless black bandeau bodice and a high waisted ivory skirt with a beautiful print and draping down the hip and Emma immediately sprang to mind. Emma has never worn Dries Van Noten on a red carpet, and the designer doesn’t get much red carpet love as it is, but when I saw this gown it just clicked. I feel like prior to her LV contract that Emma would have asked hers stylist, Petra Flannery, to try and get her hands on this gown. It fits Emma’s love of things both glamorous and bohemian and meshes them perfectly together. I think that the SAG Awards is really the only awards show where this kind of gown would work and I definitely think that if Emma wore this gown with a gold and black herringbone pattern Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ box clutch, black and gold Aquazzura ‘Vogue’ stiletto sandals, a romantic updo, a bronze smokey eye, antique rose pink lips, and a selection of Buccellati jewels including ‘Tramontana’ rose cut diamond pendant earrings and a ‘Mediterraneo’ diamond and opal cocktail ring to really ensure this look is head to toe perfection on this red carpet. Laura Linney has never really been one to wow me on the red carpet, but I do want to see the gorgeous red head deliver a very chic and sophisticated moment on the SAG Awards red carpet next Sunday. She is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in Ozark, and I think that for this red carpet simplicity with a twist is key. That is why I picked this white Gucci sleeveless column gown which features thick black embroidery on the bodice, a v-neckline, and a black satin ribbon detailed waist for her to wear. The gown is simple and elegant, but the embroidery on the bodice I think adds just the right spice to this look to keep it from being just another white column gown. I think that with a sleek 60’s style side parted bouffant updo, winged eyeliner, soft pink lips, a black crocodile pattern stamped satin Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, white Gucci extended platform sole sandals, and antique rose cut diamond drop earrings from Neil Lane that Laura would definitely have a perfect moment on her hands. Olivia Colman is in that front runner pack to take home the Best Actress trophy at this years Academy Awards, so the SAG Awards is a really important red carpet for her. Will she take home the SAG Actor trophy for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture? Or will it go to one of the other front runners like Glenn Close or Lady Gaga. I honestly have no idea so I want to see each lady bring their a-game to this red carpet. Olivia has been extremely loyal to her fellow Brits since the start of the promo tour for The Favorite. She has only worn British based brands and I have a feeling that isn’t going to change any time soon. My one question is would she wear a French brand if it was designed by a British designer? Since Meghan Markle has championed the work of Clare Waight Keller and her vision for Givenchy the French legacy house has been intertwined with British Fashion. I definitely think that would fall under Olivia’s British designer requirement. I was running low of gowns I wanted to see her wear so when I saw this black Givenchy chiffon cape sleeve gown which features a jeweled yoke neck and a column silhouette I thought it was a perfect fit. I think that the style of this gown is exactly what Olivia would be drawn to and the fact that it is Givenchy adds just a little surprise to her designer roster. Her short pixie, thick black kohl rimmed eyes, soft red lips, a pair of simple black Gianvito Rossi ‘Gianvito’ pointed toe pumps, and delicate David Morris ‘Elizabeth’ three drop earrings would all round this look out perfectly. Rachel Brosnahan has been delivering all kinds of really chic looks this awards season. I would expect her to be the top of the pack to win in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Midge Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Rachel has an interesting balance that she has to achieve with her red carpet moments. She stars in a period show where all of her 50’s inspired wardrobe is absolutely fantastic. She wears it well, but I know she wants to allow people to differentiate between her on screen and off screen persona’s. She has done a fabulous job at that wearing chic modern, yet glamorous, designs from Prada, Carolina Herrera, and Oscar de la Renta. I know she has the potential to wow me and so when I was thinking of the perfect gown for her to wear on the SAG Awards red carpet I decided to go with something simple and ethereal. I LOVE this seafoam green and ocean blue Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2019 plisse silk gown which features a deep-v neckline and is tailored with a flowing skirt, its fluid shape is detailed with a cinched waist and chiffon sashes along the back and I think that Rachel has the statuesque glamour to really make this gown work on the red carpet. It is a style of gown we have seen before from brands like Marchesa and Saint Laurent, but what makes this gown different is the color. The soft ocean colors of this gown really make it a stand out moment. I would honestly let the gown do the talking adding a sleek updo, defined eyes, bright pink lips, a pair of silver Prada metallic leather sandals, and simple Nikos Koulis ‘Universe Line’ white gold and diamond flower inspired ear clips. Rounding out this first set of SAG Awards wishes is Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series nominee Robin Wright. She is nominated for the final season of House of Cards and honestly I don’t know if she will take any award home with her. I don’t even know if she will show up for the red carpet. Robin keeps a pretty low profile and has skipped many of the awards shows where she is nominated. If she does show up I would love to see her give us a feminine take on tuxedo dressing wearing this black Rosetta Getty Pre-Fall 2019 ensemble which features an asymmetric draped shoulder crepe de chine top and high rise flared leg crepe pants. I didn’t even consider any other look for Robin to wear on this red carpet. When it came time for me to pick the perfect look for her I knew I wanted to see her wearing this pants look. It wouldn’t be the first time Robin has worn pants for a major awards show red carpet and I just think it fits with her no muss no fuss style. Where I would like to see some difference in the look is with the styling. I want to see Robin style her hair sleek and up adding a soft smokey eye, soft pink lips, simple black Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Djula geometric diamond cascade earrings. All those details would ensure that Robin sends Claire Underwood off in high style.
The 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on Sunday January 27, 2019.
