Awards season is in full swing. Every day someone delivers a look that makes me swoon and I am really excited to see what everyone nominated and presenting at the Critics Choice Awards this weekend. Everyone has been bringing glamour and I am very excited to see what new things are coming. Cynthia Erivo is nominated with her Widows co-stars for Best Ensemble Cast. She always brings the most to the red carpet and I am excited to see what she will bring on Sunday night. I wanted to see something bold and dramatic so I picked this ombre red and pink Marchesa Pre-Fall 2019 one shoulder tea length gown which features a softly draped bodice, tulle and pebble organza 3 dimensional flowers, and a ruffle textured skirt. We have slowly been seeing Marchesa pop up onto the red carpet over a year since the brand was blacklisted following the Weinstein scandal revelations. Her bleach blonde short hair, defined eyes, deep red lips, a pair of red Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Sylvia’ crystal embellished slingback sandals, and David Morris diamond and ruby stud earrings would all ensure that this is one of the extra moments that I can absolutely fall in love with from Cynthia. Elsie Fisher’s stylist Mary Inacio said before the Golden Globe Awards that she didn’t want to do gowns for her yet because they just aren’t appropriate for such a young actress. I have been scratching my head at that thought since I first heard it. Mary has been doing suit looks for Elsie and they have aged the 15 year old actress dramatically. I would love to see Mary finally put Elsie in a gown this weekend at the Critics Choice Awards. I saw this Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2019 gold and burnt orange embroidered tulle and lace gown which features braided shoulders, a plunging neckline, and a peplum waist paired with a burnt orange turtleneck and thought it would be perfect for Elsie. Of course there would have to be some modifications. The skirt has to be lined. The sheer skirt is totally inappropriate for a 15 year old, but I do believe that a lined version of this gown would be perfect for her. A pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Iriza Calf Cubiste’ low heel pumps, a romantic updo, defined eyes, and a matching burnt orange lip would all keep this look chic, glamorous, and age appropriate. I always love seeing Letitia Wright on the red carpet and I was sad that she wasn’t with her Black Panther co-stars this past weekend at the Golden Globe Awards. I want to see her on Sunday night at the Critics Choice Awards where she is nominated in the Best Ensemble Cast with those co-stars. She has become quite a fashionista and I decided to create a gown worthy of a fashionista. We don’t see a while lot of Dries Van Noten on the red carpet, but I would love to see the Belgian designer create a custom gown for Letitia to wear on Sunday nights red carpet. I took the blue and silver sequin and beaded fringe that covers the bodice of this silver fully beaded one shoulder column gown from the Dries Van Noten Spring 2019 RTW collection. It is the perfect gown for a real fashion girl and I believe that Letitia is the perfect person to deliver this gown on the red carpet. Style it with a sleek high bun, smokey eyes lined in cobalt blue, nude glossy lips, a silver Rafe ‘Sofia’ polygon straw clutch, a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Purist’ sandals, and Kimberly McDonald 18-karat white gold earrings with sapphire slices, diamond slices, and blue sapphires and I know this look would be total fashionista perfection. The fit of Michael B. Jordan’s suits has been off for a while. I want to see him bring bold style to the red carpet on Sunday night at the Critics Choice Awards. I would want to see him take this black and grey floral Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh Spring 2019 Menswear double breasted jacket. The bold floral of this jacket is perfect to make a major menswear statement on this red carpet but I would pair it with a pair of black pants, a crisp white shirt, and black Louis Vuitton ‘Voltaire’ derbies to really make this a really major menswear moment on this red carpet. It would be one of the boldest looks that Michael has worn on a red carpet. He tends to stick to more classic looks, but I do believe he would sell this look to me. Rachel Weisz was one of two stars who wore a custom Celine gown on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards this past weekend. I loved her ruffled black and white column gown and she definitely was able to sell it to me. It wasn’t what I feel like I would typically associate with Heidi Slimane’s style and for that matter I wouldn’t associate Rachel with his brand of typical sex pot rock and roll glam, but it worked. For this weekends red carpet I went for 40’s glam with a black and grey J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2019 v-neck gown white features a crystal and bead embroidered bodice with short sleeves, a cascading bow detail and a full length velvet skirt with a thigh high slit. It isn’t a boundary pushing gown but I definitely think that it would be a very chic moment for her on this red carpet. Keep the 40’s glam going with a sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, dark red lips, a black and silver Bottega Veneta ‘Karung’ chain knot clasp mirror embellished clutch, black Gianvito Rossi suede ankle wrap feather detail pumps, and vintage Cartier art deco drop earrings.
The 2019 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday January 13, 2019.
