Awards season is definitely full steam ahead. In the first seven days of the year we have already had 12 awards season related red carpets, and there is another one tonight. It is not the 2019 Critics Choice Awards though. We still have a few days, and a lot of wishes, to go until then. The red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards can go anywhere from cocktail to couture and everything in between. It is one of the most diverse style carpets of awards season. I am excited to see what everyone is cooking up for this Sunday’s red carpet.Betty Gilpin is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in GLOW and I am intrigued to see what she will bring to the red carpet. A year ago I had no idea who Betty was but thanks to her stylist Cristina Ehrlich putting her in looks from Esteban Cortezar, Vera Wang, Roland Mouret, and Alex Perry over the last year I know who she is now. Betty loves a good red on the red carpet so I went red and sexy with this Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019 asymmetric satin column gown which features cut outs along the sides, a train detail, and a one shoulder silhouette with a single thin strap. This sleek and sexy gown is a little more revealing than we typically see from Betty on the red carpet but I really do believe that she has the effortless glam to really make it work. I would pair it with a sleek high ponytail, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a red marbled acrylic Edie Parker ‘Jean’ clutch, and red Gucci braided leather sandals to really make this a simple yet chic moment for Betty to wear on Sunday’s red carpet. Chrissy Teigan isn’t nominated but appears on this list as a perfect plus one wish for her to wear if she attends Sunday’s show with Best Actor in a TV Movie/Limited Series nominee, and husband, John Legend. Chrissy always brings the glam when she is supporting John and I would expect no less from her on the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards. I decided to go for a metallic femme fatale moment with this silver Ester Abner Spring 2019 RTW strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, corseted bustier, and draped construction. Chrissy could easily sell this silver Jessica Rabbit moment to me with ease on this red carpet especially if paired with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, red lips, diamond stud earrings, silver Aquazzura crystal studded PVC sandals, and a gorgeous Anita Ko ‘Kelly’ diamond choker. Debra Messing might not have won any awards on Sunday night at the Golden Globe Awards, but she did show up giving us drama and glamour wearing a black and grey Pamella Roland feathered cape gown. I want to see Debra continue to deliver chic and glamorous moments on the red carpets the rest of awards season. The next stop? The 2019 Critics Choice Awards where she is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. I decided to go with a bit of an unconventional choice for Deb to wear on Sunday picking this petrol blue and black Dennis Basso Pre-Fall 2019 strapless gown which features a black bandeau style top, empire waist, gathered draped detail, and a bit of a train. We don’t often see Dennis Basso gowns on the red carpet despite the fact that he creates some really beautiful confections. When I was searching for the perfect gown for Debra to wear on this red carpet I saw this gown and liked it, but because it isn’t a typical choice I kept looking. My mind kept going back to this gown and ultimately I decided to say why not. If it doesn’t get put out into the universe it would never happen right? The blue against Debra’s skin and hair would be fantastic! Add old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, soft red lips, a black Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ crystal studded clutch, a pair of black and nude Jimmy Choo ‘Love’ lace pumps, and chic mystic opal pendant drop earrings from Martin Katz would all make this another swoon worthy moment from Debra. John Legend always brings chic moments to the red carpet. Not often are they boundary pushing looks, and I’m not expecting him to deliver that on Sunday either. I would however like to see him coordinated with Chrissy wearing this DSquared2 Pre-Fall 2019 tuxedo which features a black and silver metallic silk notch lapel blazer and then classic styling for the rest. The blazer has some pizazz, but overall still delivers that classic crisp menswear vibe. Add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Alpha Male P’ strass embellished cap toe derbies and this would be the perfect look for John to wear for the Critics Choice Awards. The last look on this list is for Best Actress in a Comedy Series nominee Rachel Bloom. Rachel has never quite been one who I get really excited to see. I’m not sure who her stylist is, but they don’t ever seem to pick looks that flatter her proportions. I would love to see that change when she steps out onto the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night. I went to one of her go-to designer Christian Siriano and this black tea length gown from his Pre-Fall 2019 collection which features a straight off shoulder neckline, fitted bust, with a flare full skirted hem, midi length, an all over zig zag velvet burnout pattern, and a lining till knee length. This chic black moment I think would be absolutely gorgeous on Rachel. It isn’t the most boundary pushing moment, but sometimes just simple and classic does the trick. I would add the perfect finishing touches to this look with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, a black Judith Leiber ‘Ritz Fizz’ crystal embellished clutch, simple black Manolo Blahnik ‘Drapia’ criss-cross sandals, and a pair of Oscar Heyman diamond rosebud earrings from Beladora.
The 2019 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday January 13, 2019.
