Now that we are past the Golden Globe Awards we are just getting started with awards season. The next big red carpet up is the 2019 Critics Choice Awards which will take place this coming Sunday. Compared to the Globes this red carpet is much more casual. While I would usually scoff at a short dress at the Globes I can definitely see them being worn for the Critics Choice Awards. So here we go kicking off my 2019 Critics Choice Awards wishes. Amandla Stenberg has earned a nomination for Best Young Actor/Actress thanks to her performance in The Hate U Give. While not every nominee attends the Critics Choice Awards like they usually do during the Golden Globes I am hoping we see Amandla on the red carpet on Sunday night. She has such a wide variation on styles she brings to the red carpet and for Sunday night’s red carpet I want to see her bring avant garde drama to this red carpet wearing this black Valentino Fall 2018 Couture ruffled cocoon cocktail dress which features a ruffled neckline, sheer construction, and whimsical feathered embellishments. I saw this dress and I knew it would be perfect for Amandla. It would also be her first major couture moment on a red carpet that I would pair with a sleek high bun, smokey eyes, red lips, and black Christian Louboutin ‘Directoire’ fishnet lace ribbon strap pumps to ensure head to toe perfection. Danai Gurira brought drama to the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards last night when she rocked a custom fire red Rodarte gown. I decided that I wanted to see her give us something a lot simpler in style for the Critics Choice Awards, but keeping the same bright warm tones to the red carpet. I went short with this flame orange Rosetta Getty Pre-Fall 2019 cross back satin slip dress which features a high, scooped neck, midi silhouette, and a fluid shape is detailed with thin crossed straps along the back for her because of the more relaxed nature of this red carpet. I would want to see Danai give some sort of very visual updo, defined eyes, red lips, a black Roger Vivier ‘Club Chain’ tassel detail buckle clutch, gold Aquazzura ‘Moonlight Plateau’ strappy platform sandals, and Cartier diamond and fire opal pendant drop earrings to really turn this into a very major moment. I don’t know if we will actually see Jennifer Hudson on the red carpet on Sunday night. I think that is the same night that they are taping a Grammy salute to Aretha Franklin that she is supposed to be performing at. Nevertheless I still wanted to put a wish out into the universe for Jennifer. If she doesn’t end up attending the Critics Choice Awards, who is nominated for Best Song for “I’ll Fight” from RBG, and does perform at the Grammy salute on that same night this black Naeem Khan Spring 2019 RTW fully beaded one shoulder column gown would be perfect for either event. This gown is just classic glam and I think that is what Jennifer does best on the red carpet. Pair it with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, red glossy lips, a black glitter Judith Leiber Couture ‘Chelsea Twinkle’ clutch, a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel sandals, and statement diamond cluster drop earrings from Beladora and it would be a gorgeous moment. Thomasin Mckenzie is also nominated for Best Young Actor/Actress on Sunday night and with all the major moments in some of the most coveted brands that she has been delivering on the red carpet I am really excited to see what she will wear. She is dressed by Danai and Emmy Rossum’s stylist Thomas Carter Phillips and he knows how to bring feminine glamour to the red carpet. I went for feminine glamour wearing this petal pink ZAC Zac Posen Spring 2019 RTW one shoulder tulle gown which features a ruffled shoulder, cape train, defined wist, and an a-line skirt for Thomasin to wear on this red carpet. This gown is simple and beautiful and while we don’t see a whole lot of ZAC Zac Posen on the red carpet I think it is the perfect choice for Sundays red carpet. This look would be perfectly complimented with statement pink floral and crystal embellished Rene Caovilla snake coil ankle wrap sandals, a sleek bun updo, defined eyes, punchy pink lips, and Tiffany & Co. diamond and pink rubellitte drop earrings.Viola Davis is part of the Best Ensemble Cast nominated cast of Widows, but honestly I don’t expect to see her on Sunday night. She didn’t put a whole lot of effort into making the festival rounds to promote the film and I think that effort will be reflected in who from the cast shows up on Sunday night, if anyone. If we do see Viola on the red carpet I went for bold color and simple style with this red Alexander McQueen ruched evening gown which features a halterneck with an open back and cut out neck detail, a ruched waist, a side leg slit and an asymmetric hem. The simple style of this gown is definitely something I think that Viola would wear on the red carpet and with a red velvet Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, red Alexander McQueen embellished bow sandals, a full afro, smokey eyes, nude glossy lips, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond and ruby cluster earrings that she would definitely deliver chic elegance.
The 2019 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Sunday January 13, 2019.
