We are getting close to the final wishes that I have for this years red carpet, but not quite yet. I have this set of six and then one more post headed your way with six more. I just put together the spreadsheet I create every year so that I can keep track of who everyone is wearing on Globes night and I put 116 names on that list, and there are always people that show up that I never would have thought of. I am really praying that we have an absolutely major red carpet tomorrow night. The glamour in my soul tells me that while last years red carpet was historic for its blackout protest, that this year is going to be the most glamorous year in the history of the Golden Globe Awards red carpet. Coming off her promo tour for Aquaman, which I really was not a fan of, Amber Heard is going to be one of the nights many presenters tomorrow night. I go up and down with Amber. She does glamour really well when she tries, but she also likes to try and be edgy. That edgy side of her really started when she was dating and married to Johnny Depp. I want the bombshell Amber back on the red carpet and so for tomorrow nights red carpet I chose this teal liquid silk velvet Ralph & Russo Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a structured bodice and draped skirt with thigh-high slit, embellished with an intertwining gold twisted crystal and chain cord. The gown reminds me a lot of the signature Vivienne Westwood Couture corseted bustier gowns, but I think that wouldn’t deter Amber from wearing this creation. In fact I know from Vivienne Westwood looks that she has worn in the past that this gown would look fantastic on her. The styling needs to be kept very femme fatale adding a sleek vintage inspired updo, winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of gold Nicolas Kirkwood ‘Mira Pearl’ sandals, and Buccellati ‘Étoilée’ 18k gold and diamond pendant earrings to really ensure that this moment is absolutely perfect for Amber. Anne Hathaway has a movie, Serenity, coming out later this month so it comes as no surprise to me that she has been asked to come back to the Golden Globe Award this year as one of the nights many presenters. This will be her sixth time attending the Golden Globe Awards and of those previous five appearances two have been in Armani Prive. So I decided to turn back to the label for the perfect gown for Anne to wear on this years red carpet. She really let me down style wise last year and I am hoping that 2019 will hold much better moments. I picked this black and gold Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a gold fully embellished corset bodice, a tiered gold tulle underskirt, velvet waist detail and a black glitter tulle overlaid skirt because of how glamorous it is, but I would want to see the look customized for Anne removing the black velvet waist and the tulle overlay. I honestly feel like those details I want removed just make this look look cheap, so giving Anne that all gold princess moment I really think would put her back in my good graces. I would keep black in the look adding a black and gold Judith Leiber ‘Jazz Age’ art deco crystal embellished resin box clutch, a pair of black Manolo Blahnik ‘Nabasa’ crystal sunburst buckle sandals and Cartier diamond and onyx drop earrings. Old Hollywood waves, defined smokey eyes, and bold red lips would all ensure that this look really does restore my love of Anne’s style. Last year Halle Berry really let me down wearing a totally event inappropriate Zuhair Murad black lace mini dress. The dress code for the Golden Globe Awards is formal. That means that tea length is the shortest one should wear on the red carpet. I want to see her redeem herself, but still stay true to her fountain of youth inspired style. So with that in mind I decided I wanted to see Halle wearing this rose gold Atelier Versace Fall 2018 Couture column gown which features intricate beaded embroidery, thigh high split, thin straps, a corseted bodice, and a plunging sweetheart neckline. I definitely think that Halle would be drawn to the inherent sex appeal in this gown and hopefully would be able to deliver it on this red carpet without looking dated. It could come across as a dated 90’s moment, and I am hoping that isn’t what happens. Sleek side parted hair, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of rose gold Jimmy Choo ‘Helen’ strappy sandals, and a pair of Bulgari high jewelry earrings rendered in yellow gold with pink coral beads, sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds all would add really chic touches to ensure this look is perfection from head to toe. The last time Janelle Monae was on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards was back in 2017 and she brought the fun factor to the red carpet wearing a high low bubble hem Armani Prive gown. She is one of the many presenters who are confirmed to attend tomorrow nights ceremony. She tends to stick to her back and white box and while on most I would get board with looks always in that color story, but the fact that Janelle brings major moments on the red carpet. She loves herself a Jean Paul Gaultier look for the red carpet and so for her look for tomorrow night I dug deep into the brands archives to find the perfect moment for her to wear. I found this black Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2006 Couture long sleeve sequin gown which features a high turtleneck, fitted bodice, and an a-line skirt and it just screamed Janelle to me. Is the gown itself a boundary pushing moment? No. But with a big braided bun on the front of her head, thick winged eyes, red lips, a black and white Rafe’ ‘Kiki Zebra’ shell minaudiere clutch, black Fendi faux pearl embellished sandals, and Mikimoto diamond and pearl fringe cluster earrings I know that it would be a really chic moment for Janelle to bring to life on this red carpet. I always get excited when I see that Julianne Moore is going to be on a red carpet. So when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association tweeted out that she was going to be among tomorrow nights presenters I got really excited. I immediately went to Givenchy for the perfect gown for Julianne to wear on this red carpet. I fell in love with the idea of Julianne wearing this black and grey Givenchy Fall 2018 Couture one shoulder gown which features an asymmetrical black velvet bodice, a single short sleeve, silver metal belted waist, and an a-line silver sequin and feather embellished skirt. I wondered for about 32 seconds if it was too similar to the Givenchy Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown that Julianne on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet back in 2015 ahead of her Best Actress win for Still Alice, but while they look they could have been in the same collection that each one is still very different and how I think Julianne would wear this gown is different than how she wore the one in 2015. I would have Julianne style this modern glam with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Nathalie’ sandals, and Chopard high jewelry including a diamond and emerald chandelier earrings and a statement emerald cocktail ring to really make this look come to life on tomorrow’s red carpet. Lucy Liu hasn’t been to the Golden Globe Awards since 2013 when she shut the red carpet down wearing a statement floral Carolina Herrera ball gown. I love me some Lucy but she has been really MIA in the last few years. When it comes to major red carpets Lucy loves a big dramatic gown and that is exactly what I found for her to wear tomorrow night. I initially had a Ralph & Russo Couture gown on this list for Lucy, but when I saw this acid green Christian Siriano Spring 2019 RTW tiered tulle gown which features micro pleating throughout with a fitted waistline, cutout sides, full A-line skirt, and a dramatic train in my archive and I started wondering who could wear it for tomorrows red carpet. I kinda figured that following seeing this gown, and falling in love with it, come down the runway during New York Fashion Week I figured this gown was going to be reserved for awards season and honestly the Golden Globe Awards is the only red carpet where this much drama is okay. Well the Oscars are too, but that comes after the new collection comes out. So when I was looking at who all was left saw the Lucy was the only person in the ranks that I think is ballsy enough to make this gown work. The silhouette alone is tough, but that color makes this a difficult too to carry. I think though that Lucy has what it takes to really make this look come to life. The last time we saw her on a red carpet, last June, Lucy had blonde hair. I would like to see her back with her black hair if she is wearing this dress because I think that the darker color would allow for her not to be dominated by the color of this gown. Style that hair in a sleek low bun adding smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a gold Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ cutout star pattern metal clutch, a pair of gold Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ metallic leather pointed toe pumps, and statement Cartier high jewelry earrings made up of opals, tsavorites, tanzanites, and diamonds and this would be an absolutely triumphant return to the red carpet for Lucy.
The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.
