We are getting super close to this years Golden Globe Awards. With each list I post and every day that goes by I am getting more and more excited about what Sunday nights red carpet is going to deliver. I have this feeling deep in my soul that this is going to be the most star studded and glamorous year ever. Will this year be the toughest to edit a best dressed list for? I am praying the answer to that question is yes. I want major glam moment from everyone, both female and male, as they walk up the red carpet at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards this weekend. Charlize Theron was the the surprise nominee in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in Tully. I hadn’t heard her name being thrown as someone with a real leg in the game for any nominations. I go back and forth with my excitement because Charlize is, and has been for a long time, under the grips of Christian Dior. I just don’t believe that the aesthetic that Maria Grazia Chiuri delivers as the creative director of Christian Dior mixes with Charlize’s style. I went through all the collections and even looked at custom pieces for Charlize to wear on this red carpet, but to be honest I wasn’t able to find anything I think really vibes with her style. I did keep coming back to this white Christian Dior Spring 2019 Couture strapless ballgown which features a peak neckline vest style bodice and a sheer a-line organza skirt. It is one of the better gowns that Maria has sent down a runway. I’m just not sure that the meshing of the top and the skirt is right for Charlize. She could wear this top with a sleek crepe column skirt (but that could look very similar to the Dior Couture gown she wore for the 2013 Oscars) or she could make it a ruched organza bodice gown (but that would just be another blargh same style that we have seen over and over from Maria Grazia Chiuri.) If she did snatch this gown as is off the runway I think that Charlize should style it with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, soft ballet pink lips, ivory satin Jimmy Choo ‘Lucy’ half d’orsay ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a pair of modern art deco Messika ‘Solena Maya’ diamond fan earrings to make it a very glamorous moment. Elisabeth Moss didn’t wear a floor length gown for any of the major awards shows last year, except for the Oscars. I was honestly uber disappointing in what she brought to the red carpets and I am hoping that 2019 will see the resurgence of the styles that I know Lizzy can sell on the red carpet. I went back to the early days of when Elisabeth was nominated for Man Men and was bringing drama and glamour to the red carpet in designs from Andrew Gn and Donna Karan (I actually really loved two Donna Karan gowns Elisabeth has worn one at the Globes in 2011 and at the Emmy’s in 2010.) I wanted to bring that same classic glamour to the red carpet for Elisabeth this year and the moment I saw this black and ivory Monique Lhuillier Pre-Fall 2019 drop waist, strapless ballgown which features an asymmetrical sweetheart neckline with a fitted bodice and a pleated full silk skirt I couldn’t shake the thought of what a great moment that this could be. Another thing that Elisabeth could also up her game on is the beauty routine. I want to see her eyes defined, red lips, and a glamorous vintage inspired updo to really keep the glamour up with this look. A black satin Roger Vivier ‘Broche Vivier’ crystal buckle envelope clutch, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier ‘Sin Drape Cigarette’ slingback pointed toe pumps, and an archive Harry Winston diamond ‘Wreath’ necklace would all ensure that Elisabeth brings head to toe glamour to this red carpet. Keri Russell doesn’t push boundaries with her red carpet looks very often. More often than not she wears some sort of black gown on the red carpet. As this year is the last time that Keri will be nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama for her hit FX series The Americans I decided I wanted to really push Keri out of that comfort zone and bring something bold and statement making to this red carpet. I was actually thinking of a black gown from the Georges Chakra Fall 2019 Couture collection for Keri, but when I saw this red halter gown which features a rectangle cutout pleated bodice, defined black ribbon waist, a column skirt with 3D triangle pleating, and cape train coming off the straps of the gown I was smitten with the idea. It would be that bold statement moment that I have been craving from Keri for a long time and it is something I know she has the presence to make it really come to life on the red carpet. I would pair this statement gown very simply with a romantic updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Hall’ platform sandals, and simple Jacob & Co. ‘Infina’ diamond wreath earrings to really ensure that Keri is able to own this red carpet. Will Lebanese director, producer, and actress Nadine Labaki be able to take her 2018 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize win for her film Capernaum and turn it into a Golden Globe and an Oscar? I have a feeling that she will be a real contender in a head to head race with Alfonso Cauron and his film Roma. I want to see Nadine bring her absolute a-game to the red carpet on this red carpet and so I turned to her good friend Elie Saab, who dressed her in two custom gowns one emerald and one black floral for Cannes 2018, to dress her once again for this red carpet. I want to see Nadine bring this nude Elie Saab Fall 2018 Couture long sleeve gown which features an asymmetrical neckline, 3D applique detail, belted waist, and a slightly flared skirt to life on the Golden Globe awards red carpet. The glamour of this gown is perfect for the actress and I definitely think it would be something that she would be drawn to. I would imagine that Nadine would ask Elie to line the skirt for modesty reasons, but I don’t think that would impact the glamour of this gown. A gold glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Ellipse’ clutch, a sleek updo, defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of nude Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ metallic lace pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Chopard white and yellow diamond drop earrings would all add the perfect finishing touches to this look. I have been watching the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime Video the past few days and it really just deepens my love for Rachel Brosnahan. She won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy last year and I personally think that she is a lock to take the trophy home again this year. A year ago I had no idea who Rachel was and as she has grown over the last year I have this feeling that she will have a major moment on the red carpet on Sunday night. She hasn’t given us a big princess gown moment on the red carpet and s I decided that this red carpet would be the perfect place for her to do that. I saw this black and light brown J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2019 sleeveless gown which features a scoop neckline, an embroidered corseted bodice, and an A-line tiered skirt with a tulle overlay and it was a click of right girl, right gown, right red capret. I definitely love this very modern take on vintage dressing that Rachel tends to bring to the red capret and this gown definitely evkoes the glamour of the 50’s in a very modern manner. Styling this gown with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, darker crimson red lips, a black Judith Leiber Couture ‘Soho’ gold metal detail snakeskin box clutch, a pair of black and gold Rene Caovilla crystal studded satin t-strap sandals, and Tiffany & Co. by Jean Schlumberger winged earrings rendered in white and yellow gold, diamonds, and pearls would pretty much make sure that this look is a lock for a spot on my Best Dressed at the Globes list. Rounding out this list is the gorgeous Yvonne Strahvoski who will walk her first major red carpet this weekend at the Golden Globe Awards since giving birth back in October of last year. I have always thought that Yvonne could be a really bold style star, but she hasn’t brought anything that could have been considered a major best dressed moment. I am hoping that since she is nominated, for Best Supporting Performance in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film (a very croweded category it literally could go to anyone) thanks to her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, that Yvonne will bring an absolutely major moment on this red carpet. I could have snatched something right off the runway but when I saw this dark purple velvet Ralph Lauren Collection ‘Kaiya’ open back evening gown which features chain detail draped from shoulders across the back, scoop neckline, draped back, bias cut style, column shilouette, and a small sweeping train I fell in love with the idea. The gown itself is very simple but it is elevated with the rich velvet fabrication and those chain details adding a sleek touch. Typically Yvonne wears her hair down on the red capret but with these chain details I would want to see her wear her hair up in a romantic updo adding strong defined eyes, dark rose pink lips, a pair of gold Rene Caovilla strass embellished metallic slide mule sandals, and Antia Ko ‘Chandelier’ diamond fringe drop earrings to really ensure this look is the definition of glamour from head to toe.
The 2019 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 6, 2019.
