2018 Hollywood Film Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

I wanted to add a second set of wishes for Sunday nights Hollywood Film Awards because they will be honoring the cast of Crazy Rich Asians with the Hollywood Breakout Ensemble Award. There are so many new faces in Crazy Rich Asians, so many who haven’t headlined a popular film. They delivered some major moments on the red carpets while they were out promoting the film and I am really interested in seeing what will come from the cast as they step out on this red carpet to accept their award. Heading into 2018 I had no idea who Awkwafina was. But with her roles in two major blockbusters, Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8, I have gotten to know who she is a little more. Her wardrobe on the promo trail for Crazy Rich Asians included looks from Reem Acra, John Paul Ataker, and Wolk Morais. None of them really spoke to me. I’m hoping that she will deliver something really glamorous when she steps out for the Hollywood Film Awards this weekend. She was seated front row at the Prabal Gurung Spring 2019 RTW show and while I didn’t find anything from that collection that I thought was perfect for Awkwafina to bring to life on the red carpet I did find this marine blue Grecian goddess gown from his Resort 2019 collection which features a fit and flare silhouette with a plunging v-neckline and draped short sleeves is perfect for her to bring to life on this red carpet. Awkwafina doesn’t have height on her side and she has curves so I wanted to pick something that I thought would elongate her frame as well as compliment her curves. I definitely think that this gown would do just that. I think that a romantic updo, defined wing eyes, bright pink lips, and a pair of navy Rene Caovilla crystal studded snakeskin ankle wrap sandals would really ensure that this is the perfect moment for Awkwafina to bring to this red carpet. I knew Constance Wu from her leading role in the ABC comedy series Fresh Off The Boat prior to her lead role in Crazy Rich Asians, but I didn’t know much about her style. She did at the start of this tour swap stylists and started working with Micaela Erlanger (who also dresses Meryl Streep, Lupita Nyong’o, Common, Michelle Dockery, & more) and helped bring a new level of style to Constance’s red carpet looks. We saw Constance wearing looks from labels like Ralph & Russo Couture, Rodarte, and Michael Kors. I had high expectations for Constance’s style for that tour, but I won’t lie I was a little disappointed. She is slowly getting better and with the film expected to be nominated for several major awards during awards season I am hoping we will see Constance bring looks that make me really love. Her Jason Wu gown at the Emmy Awards gives me hope! This dusty light blue Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture draped gown which features a mini skater style skirt, intricate beaded embroidery, a feathered neckline, and a dramatic cape seems like a stretch for anyone over the age of 18 to bring to life on the red carpet, but I do really believe that Constance has the right type of princess-y vibe to make this gown to come to life on the red carpet. The dress itself is such a statement that the styling should be really simple. I would just add a simple pair of gold Aquazzura ‘Linda’ sandals, a sleek updo, defined eyes, and soft pink lips to really let the gown be the star of this look. Gemma Chan gave us the gambit of luxury while promoting Crazy Rich Asians wearing Louis Vuitton, Prabal Gurung, Oscar de la Renta, Kenzo, Valentino, and Simone Rocha. In fact Gemma was the only member of the cast to make a Best Dressed list with that Simone Rocha look she wore for the films premiere in London. She was always the one I thought would bring the most fashion factor to the red carpet and I wasn’t disappointed. I am really interested to see what she will wear on her first major Hollywood awards show red carpet and I feel like this major Alexander McQueen one shoulder gown which features an embroidered butterfly bodice, an a-line skirt, and chic fringe would be just another beautiful moment for her to bring to life on the red carpet. It is the commercial version of a fully embroidered gown that came down the Alexander McQueen Fall 2018 RTW runway, but while I love the runway gown this edited version is perfect for Gemma to wear on this red carpet. Glamorous old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a black and gold studded Alexander McQueen ‘Queen and King’ kiss lock box clutch, black Christian Louboutin ‘Rosie’ platform sandals, and a pair of vintage Fred Leighton diamond drop earrings all would really ensure that this look is glamour defined. Henry Golding was another I had no idea about heading into this year, or even this tour. I have been on a push to include more menswear on If I Was A Stylist and if I had known that Henry had caught the eye of Tom Ford I would have put him on my wishes too. He wore ice blue and rose gold tuxedo jackets from Tom Ford to the films premieres in Los Angeles and Singapore respectively and I was really taken. I don’t always need men to go the Timothee Chalamet route of rocking bold printed suits on the red carpet, but the effort of going left of normal is always applauded. Henry might fit the ‘standard handsome’ block well the pushing the boundaries of color on the red carpet makes him one of my favorites to watch on the red carpet. For the Hollywood Film Awards I would love to see him call up Tom Ford again and get his hands on this hot pink velvet peak lapel tuxedo jacket that I would pair with a white tuxedo shirt, black satin bow tie, black tuxedo pants, and a pair of black Tom Ford ‘Chesterfield’ patent leather tassel front loafers. The hot pink is  a definite statement but the rest is very classic & I think that is perfect for Henry to bring to this red carpet.

The 2018 Hollywood Film Awards will take place on Sunday November 4, 2018.
