As the year winds down awards season starts to gear up. One of the fall awards events is the BAFTA Britannia Awards which will take place on October 26, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. When BAFTA travels to LA the red carpet is typically a little more laid back, but given the honorees being feted this year I am expecting some really chic moments on the red carpet. Cate Blanchett is being honored with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film. She has been giving us LEWKS this year and I am very excited, as always, to see what the queen will wear on this red carpet. She is a fashion plate and can be hard to predict sometimes. She likes to be glamorous but also likes to take risks. So for Friday’s red carpet I wanted to go for a very chic couture moment that I think that Cate would rock the red carpet wearing with this navy blue velvet Schiaparelli Fall 2018 Couture skirt suit which features intricate silver baroque sequin and beaded embroidery on the bodice and a daring thigh high split. It is a very glamorous and dramatic moment and I really feel like Cate is one of the few who could really sell this look to me on a red carpet especially when paired with a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Eclipse’ pumps, and Chopard diamond and sapphire cluster earrings. Emilia Clarke will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year, which I think is interesting since this is the first time she has been honored at the Britannia’s and I feel like she has had a relatively low profile this year. None the less I want to see Emilia really deliver an uber glamorous moment on this red carpet. I wanted to go for something simple yet glamorous so when I was on the hunt and saw this white Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2018 Couture chiffon midi dress which features a draped strapless bustier, sweetheart neckline, and a flowing a-line skirt I knew it was the perfect moment. This is a very classic moment and I think that is exactly what I want to see Emilia deliver with this look. I would remove the brown crocodile leather belt that the dress was paired with on the runway in favor of a pair of red, black and leopard Sophia Webster ‘Andie’ strappy sandals and David Morris diamond and ruby chandelier earrings. Those accessories with a sleek 50’s inspired updo, winged eyes, and nude lips would all ensure that this look is glamour defined from head to toe. Elizabeth Debicki isn’t being honored, but her Widows director Steve McQueen will be given the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing. With the film looking like a real awards season contender I would expect to see the cast on the red carpet to support the director. I have long been a lover of Elizabeth. I have seen her potential come out in small waves here and there and I am really excited to see what awards season will bring since her last few red carpet outings have been incredibly glamorous. For this red carpet I went for 30’s glamour with a rose pink Alessandra Rich Spring 2019 RTW silk dress which features structured shoulders, long sleeves, a midi length hem, and ruched detailing with a bow tie detail at the side. It is one of these beautiful moments that I know that Elizabeth could really rock on the red carpet. I didn’t want to over do the styling of this dress so I would only pair it with a sleek vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, matching pink lips, and a pair of pink and nude Malone Souliers lace pumps with ribbon trim. Viola Davis also stars alongside Elizabeth Debicki in Widows and I would love to see her at the Britannia’s to support Steve McQueen as well. I was really looking forward to seeing Viola on this promo tour, but honestly her looks have been a little lackluster. I am hoping that she will be getting back to her best as the film gears up for an awards season campaign. If she stepped out on this red carpet wearing this bold yellow Rasario Spring 2019 RTW silk midi dress which is crafted in a fitted sheath style with an oversized bow detail at the waist, contrasting thin straps, and a low back I know it would make for a really major moment for Viola. She LOVES color and I am praying that we see her bring a bold statement to this red carpet and this dress would be perfect for her to bring to this red carpet. Add a full afro hairstyle, defined smokey eyes, glossy ruby red lips, and a pair of yellow and gold Malone Souliers ‘Maureen’ pointed toe mules and Viola would be back at her best.
The 2018 BAFTA Britannia Awards will take place on Friday October 26, 2018.
