So far the promo tour for The Favourite has been a lot more underwhelming that I was expecting. I think I set really high expectations for this cast and need to bring them down a few notches. The cast will have another chance to really wow me when it screens as the American Express headline gala at the 2018 London Film Festival. While promoting this film at the Venice and New York Film Festivals we have only seen Emma Stone wearing Louis Vuitton ensembles. I wasn’t impressed with any of those looks, but I was taken with the metallic pleated Givenchy gown that she wore for the premiere of her Netflix limited series Maniac, so I turned back to the brand for a major moment for Emma to rock on the red carpet at the London film festival. We have never seen Emma rock a bold orange like this Givenchy Fall 2018 Couture gown which features an asymmetrical draped bodice, metal breastplate bandeau, a pleated skirt, sweeping train, and a metal belted waist on the red carpet before and I definitely think that it is something that the red headed actress would own with great aplomb. The color is a major statement and I feel like while LV doesn’t really do dramatic gowns on the red carpet that this would be that bold modern glam dramatic moment that I am so desperately craving from Emma. A sleek vintage inspired updo, orange hued smokey eyes, a pair of orange Marco De Vincenzo fringed strappy sandals, and a pair of custom Louis Vuitton High Jewelry mandarin garnet and diamond cluster earrings (inspired by a necklace from the brands archive) would really ensure that this is a major Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment. Olivia Coleman was never one whom I took any notice of on the red carpet prior to this tour, but she has been making some bold choices rocking Stella McCartney, Antonio Berardi, and Dion Lee on the red carpet recently. I have to say though that while I laud her efforts she hasn’t won me over. The looks are typically over-styled with accessories that just don’t match (like the clutch in the look above.) For the London Film Festival premiere of The Favourite I wanted to go with something a little more refined and simplistic with this deep wine red Azzedine Alaia Fall 2018 RTW velvet gown which features a round neckline, cap sleeves, belted waist, and an a-line skirt. The gown is nothing boundary pushing, but until Olivia really gets her footing I think that classic is better. I think that with her signature pixie, defined eyes, bordeaux red lips. and a pair of black Manolo Blahnik ‘Maidup’ pumps that this would be a very chic moment for Olivia.
The 2018 London Film Festival will open on Wednesday October 10, 2018 and will run through Sunday October 21, 2018.
