I am totally far behind with my wishes for the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. I wanted to get in as many as I could before the festival opened tomorrow night, but I’m still not sure I am going to get through them all. So instead of spending time rehashing my usual opening paragraph I am just going to get right into the wishes. I am very excited for the TIFF premiere of The Hate U Give. This is the second wish I have for Amandla to wear for the festival. She has been on the lower end of brands not really being dressed by some of the most coveted brands out there, but that seems to have changed now that Karla Welch is styling her. For this premiere I went to this pistachio green Gucci Cruise 2019 one shoulder leather cocktail dress. I don’t often like leather dresses. They can come across as heavy and folds can look messy, this dress on the runway does neither of those and I definitely think that against Amandla’s skin that this dress would be absolutely beautiful. A braided updo, dark green smokey eyes, matte antique rose pink lips, and a pair of black Gucci knotted strap platform sandals with pearl embellishments on the thick heel would all really make this a chic yet edgy moment for Amandla to bring to this red carpet. There are several men who are scheduled to attend TIFF this year that I am really excited to see. Unfortunately I just didn’t have a whole lot of room to fit many of them into my wishes for this red carpet. I am very excited to see what Common will bring to the premiere of The Hate U Give though. Common is another of the men who love to take classic shapes and infuse statement details into it and that is exactly what I can see him doing by wearing this Tom Ford Spring 2019 Menswear tuxedo which features a metallic gold shawl lapel blazer and black silk pants. In the lookbook the suit was paired with an ivory shirt and scarf and I would personally swap out those for a crisp white button down shirt with gold and onyx Mont Blanc tuxedo studs, a black bow tie, and black patent leather Christian Louboutin ‘Greggo’ derbies to really make this the perfect statement menswear moment for Common to wear on this red carpet. The Hate U Give follows events in the life of a black 16-year-old girl, Starr Carter, who is drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of a childhood friend and is going to be a very controversial film according to what what I have read. The cast is full of activists and I am really excited to actually see it. Issa Rae is another of the films stars and I know that she can deliver something really amazing on the red carpet. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Issa, like she did when she hosted the CFDA Awards earlier this year, to wear a dress by a black designer. I didn’t do that for my wish though, and to be honest my wish might be a little controversial in itself. I love this Romance Was Born Fall 2018 Couture fringed slip style midi gown which features a bold tribal like pattern and I definitely think that with her history of loving color and print on the red carpet that this is something else that Issa would definitely be drawn to. The gown itself is such a statement that I would keep the styling simple yet bold and, as always complimentary. I would add an orange Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ velvet clutch, smokey eyes, dark burgundy glossy lips, a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Nathalie’ sandals, and vintage fire opal and diamond earrings to ensure this is a major moment for Issa. When it comes down it I can almost guarantee that Lily Rose Depp will step onto the red carpet at the TIFF premiere of A Faithful Man wearing Chanel. I would however want to see her rock another of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs with this ballet pink Fendi Fall 2018 Couture tea length gown which features a halter neck, feathered sleeves, and intricate beading. Lily doesn’t wear floor length gowns and I definitely think that this is a real statement gown, but I definitely think she has the easy glamour to really make it work on the red carpet. I would finish it with a tight bun, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of ballet pink Jimmy Choo ‘Lilian’ crystal trimmed pumps to really let the gown be the real statement of this look. I was surprised that Suki Waterhouse skipped her Venice Film Festival premiere and I am praying that she will jet to Toronto for the premiere of her film Assassination Nation. She has been promoting this film since it first debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Will this premiere be one of the more formal ones of the festival? Probably not, but I am still going for the glam with this champagne gold Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless crystal encrusted column gown. We could still very likely see this gown come down a red carpet in Venice thanks to the fact that Armani Beauty is a presenting sponsor of the festival, but I definitely think that Suki would more than to this gown the moment it deserves. I think that a wavy hairstyle, defined eyes, soft pink lips, a light gold Marzook crystal encrusted globe clutch, and light gold glitter Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crustal heel sandals would all really ensure that this moment is a very glamorous moment for Suki to bring to the red carpet at TIFF.
The 2018 Toronto International Film Festival will open on Thursday September 6, 2018 and runs through Sunday September 16, 2018.
