You better strap yourself in because this week is going to be quite bust on If I Was A Stylist. I have a lot of wishes for the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival to get through and New York Fashion Week is kicking off so there are reviews and collection wish lists coming your way as well. Now through the opening of TIFF I have three posts a day of wishes for the glamizons who have films screening at the festival and the level of glamour is completely varried from person to person. We can see everything from cocktail dresses to couture gowns on the red carpets of this festival. The step and repeat of the festival red carpets can be a little busy with its repeating orange logo lettering so I tend to think that more solid gowns tend to stand out on this red carpet. That is pretty much what I’ve gotten in this set of wishes. Wildlife opened the Cannes Critics Week sidebar festival during the French film festival earlier this year and Carey Mulligan was on hand in a cream car wash pleat Christian Dior Couture gown. I might not have liked that gown on the runway, but on Carey it really worked. I really want to see Carey give us a very glam moment when she jets off to Toronto to bring the film to TIFF. This black strapless Valentino Spring 2018 Couture strapless a-line gown made of layered sheer circles might be a little more than we typically see Carey wearing for TIFF, but I love the idea. For her three previous premieres at the festival she has rocked short dresses like Prada, Christopher Kane, and Chanel. I really upped the glamour level with this Valentino Couture gown, but I definitely think that Carey could definitely sell it to me especially when paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of black velvet Aquazzura ‘Ava’ platform sandals. I loved the Sachin + Babi Nior gown that Connie Britton for her last TIFF premiere in 2014 and I am hoping that when she steps out to promote her film The Land of Steady Habits at this years festival that we will see her deliver something just as chic and glamorous. Her style hasn’t been my favorite for a while, and I am hoping that the big film festival platform would really make Connie step up her game. I definitely think that is exactly what would be what we would see from her if she stepped onto this red carpet wearing this navy and gold Naeem Khan Resort 2019 short sleeve gown which features a plunging neckline, overlaid design, and a draped bodice. It isn’t a major boundary pushing moment, but I definitely think that it would be a very glamorous moment for Connie to bring on this red carpet. Pair it with a gold Lanvin ‘Sugar’ clutch, old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, dark red lips, and a pair of dyed to match dark navy satin Paul Andrew slingback sandals and I know that this would be Connie’s best red carpet moment in a long time. In Cannes earlier this year Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani promoted her latest film Girls of the Sun while wearing exclusively Chanel for her red carpet appearances. I feel like that is probably going to be the case again when Golshifteh takes the film from Cannes to the Toronto International Film Festival. While the likely option for her to bring to this red carpet is something that is right off the runway I decided I wanted to put Golshifteh in a custom Chanel Couture gown inspired by the mint finale bridal suit as modeled by Adut Akech. I turned that gown suit and turn it into a halter gown with intricate beaded floral embroidery, peplum bodice, and a column skirt and I definite think that the color would totally compliment Golshifteh’s complexion and make for a very glamorous moment. A chic updo, smokey eyes, pink lips, a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi perforated pointed toe pumps, and Chanel High Jewelry yellow diamond cluster earrings all would really make for such a major moment. Lebanese director and actress won the jury prize earlier this year at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival with her film Capernaum and did so looking ever so elegant in Lebanese designer Elie Saab. I am really excited to see what the very glamorous woman will bring to Toronto when she brings the films to TIFF. I went incredibly glamorous with this black, white, and gold Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture art deco gown which features a boat neckline, long sleeves, and an a-line skirt. I would bet that Nadine will undoubtedly be wearing another Elie Saab design on this red carpet and this incredibly glamorous moment is perfect, in fact as I am writing this with the likelihood that she will receive an Oscar nomination I wonder if I should be saving it. But I am someone who doesn’t believe that anyone should save anything for one occasion or another, if you like it wear it. So I think that it would be a perfectly glamorous moment for Nadine to bring to life on this red carpet. Old Hollywood waves, a pair of gold Marchesa ‘Rose’ embellished peep toe pumps, smokey eyes, dusty rose pink lips, and Chopard Red Carpet Collection yellow diamond chandelier earrings all would really make sure that this is a glamorous moment for Nadine. Rounding out this list is another Cannes film, Everybody Knows. The Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem film which opened this years Cannes Film Festival. Just after the festival, where Penelope wore Chanel exclusively, it was announced that she was a new face of the brand. She has worn Chanel for many major red carpets in the past including the Oscars, the Golden Globes, movie premieres, and the Goya Awards and I would be surprised to see her wear anything other than Chanel when she lands in TIFF to promote Everybody Knows. Most of her big red carpet moments in Chanel have been vintage, but I decided to go the latest couture collection for the perfect look for her to wear in Toronto this year. I think that this steel blue Chanel Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a embroidered tweed bodice, velvet waist, and flowing chiffon skirt (that I would like to see have a bit of a train added to) is perfect for Penelope and would be perfectly compliment with her jewelry collection for Atelier Swarovski. I would love to see her pair this gown with a selection of light blue Swarovski created sapphire, white topaz, and diamond jewels from that collection including drop earrings, statement necklace, and cocktail ring. Finishing the look with old Hollywood waves, smokey eyes, soft pink lips, a navy Judith Leiber Couture crocodile leather faceted clutch, and light navy glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Lane 100’ sandals would ensure this look is incredibly glamorous.
The 2018 Toronto International Film Festival will open on Thursday September 6, 2018 and runs through Sunday September 16, 2018.
