I have been a little far behind in my wishes for the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. I had to end up cutting my amount of lists by four this year because there are just so many stars who are expected to promote their projects that have been added to the selection of this years edition. Following the Venice Film Festival the next stop on the road to the Oscars for many stars will travel from Italy to Canada to continue to promote their films. Collette is not making the jump from Venice to TIFF, but I it is one of the premieres that I am really excited about. I absolutely love me a great Keira Knightly moment on the red carpet and ahead of her blockbuster Disney tour, for another film, later this year I want to see her give some really glam moments on the red carpet in Toronto. I went for a classic Chanel moment with this sleeveless black midi gown from the Chanel Cruise 2019 collection which features a silver criss-crossed ruched waist for her to wear for the premiere of Collette because I feel like while Keira usually goes for more of a slinky or silky gown on the red carpet and this very glamorous moment would be a chic and simple yet incredibly glamorous moment for Keira to make on a TIFF red carpet. I would keep the styling very simple and chic with a sleek updo, winged eyes, bold red lips, a black velvet Chanel book clutch, black velvet Tabitha Simmons peep toe d’orsay sandals, and a pair of Chanel High Jewelry black and white diamond bow and white pearl fringe earrings to really ensure that this is a very statement making LBD moment for Keira. Before the 2018 Tony Awards I had no idea who Denise Gough was, but then she was one of the chicest ladies of the night wearing an Oscar de la Renta crystal detail tea length gown and I was enamored. When I saw that she stars alongside Keira in Collette I decided that I wanted to include her in my wishes for TIFF this year. I decided to stay with Oscar for this red carpet opting for this chic and simple black Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2018 sleeveless gown which features a silver beaded broach applique detail on one hip, elegant draping, a column silhouette, and a side slit. This is a chic and glamorous option and I think that Denise would definitely infuse some real effortless elegance into it for the red carpet especially when styled with a chic pixie hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, a black Oscar de la Renta crystal embellished minaudiere clutch, black Jimmy Choo ‘Mist 120’ sandals, and a pair of simple diamond stud earrings. I have noticed Eleanor Tomlinson for a while now. The tall, peachy pale, redheaded British actress is always glamorous and has caught my eye with looks from the likes of Jenny Packham and Naeem Khan and I am very interested to see what she will wear on the TIFF red carpet alongside Keira and Denise for the premiere of Collette. I decided to go to one of my favorite underrated British brands (whom has dressed the likes of Skai Jackson, Maisie Williams, and Natalie Dormer) Onj Oaj Pairam for Eleanor to rock on this red carpet. This black silk gazar midi column dress from the Ong Oaj Pairam Fall 2018 RTW collection which features an origami draped one shoulder detail with embroidered broken moons and stars on ruffle and bodice in addition to a daring side split. While some like JLo or Rita Ora might grab this dress and work that side split to it’s full potential I think that Eleanor would be much more modest in her use of it using it to subtly flash some leg as she walks and not stick it out the slit a la Angelina Jolie at the Oscars. I do think that this is a very statement making moment, definitely more out there than the looks I picked for Keira or Denise, but I think that Eleanor has the presence to really make this dress come to life on the red carpet. I would style this dress with a gold glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ clutch, romantic updo, defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Black Sacora’ sandals embellished with a gold sphere to really make this an absolutely statement making moment on this red carpet. I am still salty that Timothee Chalamet was robbed of an Oscar earlier this year for his performance in Call Me By Your Name but after watching the trailer for Beautiful Boy he is poising himself for another nomination, and hopefully a win. The fill will have its world premiere in Toronto and I cannot wait to see what Timothee will bring to the red carpet. He is one of the few men who really take risks with his style on the red carpet. Timothee was a huge fan of Berluti as designed by Haider Ackermann (whom he was introduced to my Tilda Swinton) and since Haider has since left Berluti I would love to see Timothee wearing more of Haidier’s eponymous line. That is why I found this black Haider Ackermann single button tuxedo blazer which features a salmon pink contrast paneling on the shawl lapel from FarFetch.com and thought it would be perfect. I would style it in head to toe black including a crisp button down shirt, bow tie, tapered pants, and black patent leather oxfords because that is what we are used to seeing from Timothee, but with that simple pop of color. It was just over a year ago that I first took notice of Kaitlyn Dever while she was out and about promoting her film Detroit. She has been working with power stylist Karla Welch and rocked major brands like Prada, Valentino, Coach, and Christopher Kane. She plays Timothee’s girlfriend in Beautiful Boy and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet in Toronto this year. This isn’t the first time that Kaitlyn has been to Toronto, but this is the first time that I feel like Kaitlyn could deliver a real major moment. I saw this black Christian Dior Resort 2019 tea length gown which features ruffles sleeves, pink, green, and purple floral embroidery, and a full a-line skirt and I think that Kaitlyn would totally make this a very chic moment on the red carpet. The dress code in Toronto will deliver all kinds of style of moments from couture gowns to chic cocktail moments and I think that this dress is the perfect middle of the ground between those two ideas. With a romantic updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, a black velvet Tyler Ellis ‘Perry’ clutch, and a pair of black Christian Dior ‘Surreal-D’ tulle and suede crystal sphere and gold lip broach embellished pumps I definitely think that Kaitlyn would look absolutely beautiful for her TIFF premiere. Finishing out this post is Lady Gaga. When she stepped out last week to premiere A Star Is Born in Venice I was absolutely blown away with her soft pink Valentino Couture feathered gown. It will probably be one of the moments on my Best Dressed of the Year list. It was one of those moments that only Gaga could sell to me. I joke that it was her glamorous presence that caused lightning to strike the theater where the film was screening causing the bulb in the projector screening the film to explode. I hope that she will be able to ride this wave all the way to an Oscars win. Her next stop on the promo tour trail for this film will be in Toronto and I am already excited to see what she will rock. Her documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two screened at last years festival. I was hoping for a dramatic and glamorous moment and was given ArtPop Gaga. I expect that as she is an actress in this film that she will deliver that glamorous moment on this red carpet. I went to a vintage 1991 Atelier Versace beaded bodice and decided that since Donatella has been reissuing a lot of her brothers archive, but in her spin, that pairing it with a pleated knot draped silk mermaid skirt with a dramatic train would be the perfect moment for Gaga to bring to this red carpet. This gown definitely delivers that modern take on 90’s dressing that is so on trend right now, but also screams Hollywood glamour. I think that styling this look in a very old Hollywood way with Veronica Lake waves, winged eyes, bold matte red lips, a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Fetish’ peep toe platform pumps, and a selection of deGrisogono jewels including diamond tassel earrings and a statement diamond cuff bracelet would be just the perfect way to ensure that Gaga has another major moment on the road to the Oscars.
The 2018 Toronto International Film Festival will open on Thursday September 6, 2018 and runs through Sunday September 16, 2018.
