Venice is going to be full of glamour this year. Overall the glamour of this year has just been out doing past years, and we still have four months to go. Usually by the time the Venice & Toronto Film Festivals finish up my Best Dressed of the Year list seems very strong. Not always, but I’m getting ahead of myself. We still have most of my wishes for the red carpet in Venice and all of my Toronto wishes. We are going to be seeing A Lot of Juliette Binoche over the course of fall festival season. She has so many projects that are ready and it seems like at least one of them has been selected at one of the film festivals this fall. Double Vies (Non Fiction) by Olivier Assayas is the only film that Juliette stars in that has made the main competition official selection and I am really expecting something dramatic glamorous from Juliette. The last time she was in Venice she had a film in one of the sidebar competitions and walked the red carpet in a gorgeous modified Armani Prive gown. That almost made my Best Dressed of the Year list. I want that level of glamour yet again when she steps onto the red carpet in Venice this year in just a few short weeks. For the photocall I went structured and chic with a navy Christian Dior Fall 2018 Couture suit which features a tunic style jacket with caped sleeves and skinny pants. I am not a Dior fan, something regular readers will know, but this is a chic moment and I think that for a photocall it would be a perfect look for Juliette to rock, especially when paired with a bohemian updo, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of black Christian Dior pointed toe pumps. For a wardrobe change into something more dramatic and glamorous for the premiere I went back to my girl Evita and her photoshop skills to come up with a stunning custom Balmain gown. We found a black Balmain mini dress which features a round neckline, crystal embellishments, and three quarter length sleeves with puffy cuffs on YOOX it served as the inspiration for the gown we created for Juliette. I want to see Olivier Rousting, the Balmain creative director, take that dress and turn it into a dramatic velvet gown turning the mini skirt into a floor length mermaid skirt with a dramatic train. I think that would make for one of the most dramatic moments that Juliette has ever had on the red carpet. I would swap up her photocall beauty with a sleek side parted bouffant updo, thick defined eyes, and bold matte red lips. Finishing the look with black satin Christian Louboutin ‘Tres Frais’ ribbon tie sandals, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of simple yet glamorous diamond teardrop pendant earrings and a delicate diamond lace cuff would all make for really glamorous moment for Juliette to bring to life on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. In all of my main selection and gala premiere wishes I am adding a look for Naomi Watts. I haven’t seen the official schedule for this years festival and I honestly have no idea about which red carpets we will see Naomi walk as a member of the jury aside from the opening and closing ceremonies. I just want to see Naomi really deliver some major glamour on the red carpet over the course of Venice this year. I know she has the potential to really wow me, and she better. I went on a bit of a limb with this wish. Earlier this year Ulyana Sergeenko went through a bit of controversy when she quoted song lyrics that have a racial slur in them in a private note to a friend ahead of her Paris Couture Fashion Week presentation back in January. Since then there have been a few b-list stars who have worn the brand on the red carpet and I wonder if she will nab an a-lister for a red carpet over the course of the fall red carpet season. I think that this floaty ice blue Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a tiered a-line skirt, sweetheart neckline, and a matching unattached cape is something that Naomi would wear in great aplomb and a 70’s socialite style effortless ease vibe is something that I think she would definitely turn into a major moment. A teased, curled, and glamorous updo, defined eyes, red lips, silver Roger Vivier floral crystal buckle glitter fabric envelope clutch, silver Gianvito Rossi asymmetric metallic crystal strap sandals, a pair of Chopard diamond and sapphire drop earrings, and simple Chopard diamond bracelet would all add the perfect finishing touches to make this a very glamorous moment on this red carpet.
The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.
