Next Wednesday the most glamorous of the fall film festivals will kicks off. The Venice Film Festival is the second most glamorous festival of the year after Cannes. The photos can be even more glamorous as we see stars leave their hotels in their couture and boarding boats to cruise to the red carpet. I was really hoping that A Star Is Born was going to be the opening film of this years festival, but I am not disappointed with the festival committees selection of First Man to open this years edition. Over the last 10 years 5 of the films that have opened this festival have gone on to earn an Oscar nomination, and others were lauded several times during awards season. Damien Chazelle, who directs First Man, opened Venice in 2016 with La La Land and I am really excited to see where the tour for his latest will end up. I am a little worried about what we will see from Claire Foy over the course of this tour. While there have been a few looks that Claire has worn in the past, and I am praying that she will deliver some really amazing moments while promoting First Man. For the photocall I decided I wanted to see Claire represent a British brand, so I went on the hunt for the perfect dress. I found it while browsing Burberry.com I found this new in sleeveless shirt dress rendered in check cotton collaged with scarf prints from the Burberry archive and features shaped by a self-tie belt, sleeveless top, and below the knee length. It was exactly what I was looking for. While Beyonce was the first to wear Burberry designed by Riccardo Tisci for her On The Run II tour I think that Claire, a major British star, at the Venice Film Festival would be the perfect option to bring the brand it’s first red carpet moment under the new creative director. It is a little different that we are used to seeing from Claire, but I think that this is perfect for this occasion. I think that with her sleek dark brown hair styled into a sleek side parted updo, simple defined eyes, dusty rose pink lips, nude suede Gianvito Rossi ‘Adria’ zig-zag cage sandals, and a pair of burgundy Burberry ‘Acoustic’ cat eye sunglasses (only to be worn while on the boat to and from the photocall not during) would all make this a very chic daytime moment for Claire to kick off her time in Venice. For the premiere I want to see Claire give structured glamour on the Lido red carpet wearing this Givenchy Fall 2018 Couture gown which features a black short sleeve crepe top with a mock neck and train and an icy blue shiny silk skirt. It gives the modern take on some of the styles that she has worn in The Crown and that is exactly what I think would make for a really dramatic moment for Claire. I can already picture the chic photos of her walking the red carpet with adding a sleek hairstyle, defined eyes, pink lips, black Aquazzura ‘Forever Marilyn’ peep toe d’orsay pumps, and a pair of art deco inspired Tiffany & Co. diamond drop earrings and removing the runways gloves and cuffs. The image is exquisite and I am praying to the fashion gods it happens.Ryan Gosling was Damien Chazelle’s leading man in La La Land and is back again for First Man. He is one of my more favored menswear style stars, and I am hoping that he will bring his signature glamour to the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. He isn’t one to wear bold color or pattern on the red carpet. His take on menswear style statements are usually much more subtle, and I definitely kept that in mind while I was putting together my wishes for him to wear at Venice this year. For the First Man photocall I went to the debut of Kim Jones at Dior Menswear and this Spring 2019 ensemble which features a distressed brown leather jacket and what I can’t decided is a powder blue and white seersucker striped button down top and matching pants or is a men’s jumpsuit. It could be a major moment for Ryan. I would keep the runways tan suede lace up boots to really keep this look casual yet chic. For the premiere I went in a much more expected route with a black Tom Ford tuxedo, but one with a jacket that is rendered in silk jacquard. It is that subtle take on menswear that makes Ryan’s looks perfect, along with the tailoring that is always perfect. Simple black Tom Ford patent leather smoking loafers would all the perfect finishing touch.Naomi Watts is on the jury this year and I cannot wait to see what she will bring to the red carpet. Aside from the Met Gala earlier this year Naomi has been pretty MIA when it comes to major red carpets. I really want to see her bring some major moments over the course of the festival and that is exactly what I think this blush pink Valentino Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a fitted bodice with nude paneled cutouts and an a-line pleated skirt would be just that. We are pretty much only guaranteed to see Naomi on the red carpet at the jury photocall, opening ceremony, and the closing ceremony, so I want each of those moments to make a major moment on the red carpet. I think that with old Hollywood waves, simple defined eyes, dusty rose pink lips, a pair of pale rose Gianvito Rossi ‘Simone’ patent leather and feather detail ankle strap pumps, and gold Bulgari pink rubellite and diamond geometric earrings that Naomi would make this an absolutely gorgeous moment on the red carpet at the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival.Last month it was announced that Armani Beauty is the official beauty sponsor of this years festival and I am praying that will mean that we will see Cate Blanchett on the red carpet. She is the face of Armani Beauty’s fragrance ‘Si’ and I am just really excited about the possibility. She has already had such a major year with her heading the jury of the Cannes Film Festival and the promo tour for Oceans 8 and I always love a great Queen Cate moment and I think that it would be perfect to see her on this red carpet like we see L’Orealista’s like Sonam Kapoor, Julianne Moore, and Araya A. Hargate do during Cannes. Venice is the only major film festival that we haven’t seen Cate grace the red carpet and I hope Mr. Armani will be the person to change it. I went for a very glamorous moment with this champagne silk Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless gown which features a dramatic bow and crystal embellishments on the bodice, column skirt, and dramatic train and I know that if anyone could really sell this look to me on the red carpet it would be Cate especially with a romantic updo, smokey eyes, light pink lips, vintage Van Cleef & Arpels 18k gold and diamond leaf cluster earrings, and a pair of gold sequin Aquazzura ‘Studio’ ankle strap sandals. It would make for a very glamorous first Venice for Cate.
The 2018 Venice Film Festival opens Wednesday August 29, 2018 and runs through Saturday September 8, 2018.
