Are you ready for my most fashion packed wish list for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards? Good because instead of a wordy intro I am just going to get right to the wishes today.Ariana Grande is nominated for six VMA’s this year including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. I personally think her music is catchy, but she isn’t my favorite. She has never really wowed me on the red carpet either, and I feel like she has had such a major year in terms of her personal life and career so I am praying that when she steps out for the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday that Ariana really gives me some major fashON moments. I want to see Ariana give me the same kind of wow moment that Lorde gave me last year, using the same material FEATHERSSSSSSSS! I love a great feather moment and I think that this black Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features a velvet bustier, iridescent pink organza ruffles on the waist, 3D floral embellishments, and an ostrich feather ball skirt is absolutely perfect for Ariana. She loves a big gown (as shown by the big Giambattista Valli Couture gowns she has worn in some of her music videos,) but she has never had a big gown moment like this on the red carpet. I think that she could really make it come to life on the red carpet at the VMA’s. It is such a statement gown that I would pair it with a sleek updo, simple defined eyes, pink lips to match the pink on the waist of the gown, black Christian Louboutin ‘Cupidetta’ patent leather and PVC pumps, and a pair of Adler diamond and pink sapphire diamond drop earrings to really make this a major moment on this red carpet. For her performance of “God Is A Woman” I turned to a designer who dresses women like no other, Tom Ford. I was just looking at the designers pieces on the racks of online shops and saw this light pink Tom Ford strapless sweetheart neckline fitted sequin leather jumpsuit and Ari was the first person to really come to mind. She could totally rock this jumpsuit on a red carpet, but I think that it is the perfect look to make for a performance moment. I think that if Ari paired this jumpsuit with a pair of matching Tom Ford mirrored sandals, her signature half up/half down hairstyle, smokey eyes, burgundy lips, a pair of diamond cross stud earrings, and a Messika ‘Austral’ diamond collar necklace that she would have two major moments on her hands for the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. Cardi B leads the nominations this year at the VMA’s with a whopping 10. She has come a long way from being a virtual unknown last year performing her song “Bodak Yellow” wearing the coveted $10,000 Saint Laurent crystal boots on the VMA’s red carpet. Since then she has been front row at some of the most coveted shows during New York Fashion Week, garnered two Grammy nominations, walked the red carpet at the Met Gala wearing custom Moschino with Jeremy Scott, and she just had a baby last month. Following the birth of her baby girl Kulture with Offset, Cardi canceled the rest of her tour dates to focus on being a new mom. Will she take a mommy’s night out and attend the 2018 VMAs? As of right now I don’t know. I really want to see Cardi bring some edge and glamour to this red carpet. I went for a look less dramatic and more glamorous than what we are used to seeing from Cardi with this black crystal embellished Dolce & Gabbana ‘Secrets & Diamonds’ Collection gown which features an exposed bralet top, long sleeves with bell cuffs, jewel neckline, and a tired skirt. This is definitely a really glamorous and sexy look, and I definitely think that with a dramatic half up/half down curly hairdo, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Hollandrive’ platform peep toe sandals, and Nikos Koulis diamond and black enamel fringe hoop earrings. Jennifer Lopez is getting the 2018 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award this year and I am really excited to see what the superstar is going to bring to the red carpet. Jennifer told VOGUE that she will wear “Something Versace” for the VMA’s this year, and most of the looks I’ve picked for her are from Versace, but the red carpet look is not. I went back to a brand we haven’t seen Jennifer wear since 2009, and one that she has only worn once, Rodarte. She attended a White House event wearing a short peach lurex dress from the brand. Since then she hasn’t worn the brand again. Prior to it being announced that she was the recipient of the Vanguard Award I had picked this custom black Rodarte gown which takes a black leather halter top layered over a single sleeve distressed silk pullover from the Rodarte Fall 2016 RTW collection and was inspired to take it and turn it into a glamorous gown with a sequin mermaid skirt for her to rock on the red carpet. It is everything that I expect to see from Jennifer on the red carpet, except for being sheer, and I definitely think that even though the gown is black that is would still be a real statement making moment for her to bring to life on this red carpet. I would keep the look very sexy with a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, red lips, a black Judith Leiber ‘Ritz Fizz’ crystal embellished envelope clutch, black Christian Louboutin ‘Uptown’ pointed toe d’orsay ankle strap pumps, and a selection of Fernando Jorge jewels including a pair of ‘Fusion Cross’ diamond and white topaz drop earrings and matching cocktail ring. I have a feeling that we are going to see Jennifer give a few looks next Monday at the VMA’s after the red carpet, and probably after her performance, I would imagine that Jenny from the Block will change into something more fun. I personally would love to see Jennifer give us a major feather moment wearing this sky blue and gold feathered cocktail dress from the Atelier Versace Fall 2018 Couture collection. It is that major fun yet sexy moment that we love from Versace and I definitely think that if anyone could sell this bird like dress to me that it would be Jennifer. The dress is such a statement all on its own that I would keep the styling simple. I definitely think that with a sleek bun, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of gold studded Christian Louboutin ‘Spikoo’ ankle wrap PVC pumps, and more Fernando Jorge jewels including 18k gold and diamond ‘Circle’ hoop earrings and a matching ‘Clarity’ cocktail ring all would really allow for the feather dress to be the focus of this look. I am really excited to see what Jennifer is going to bring to the stage for her performance. She has done some melody performances in the past, but I feel like this is going to be the ultimate one. I really went balls to the wall with the looks for this performance. Usually when she starts a greatest hits show Jennifer is seen standing center stage in something very glamorous with fog surrounding her while she kicks off the set with “Waiting For Tonight.” I have a feeling that is how she will start this performance as well and the glamorous look I want to see her bring is this acid yellow Atelier Versace Spring 2013 Couture mullet gown with an embellished hem and medallion detail halter neckline. I think that this gown for a red carpet is a little too “young” for Jennifer, but I think that as a performance look it would totally work. Donatella would have to make that gown able to be ripped away for Jennifer, and I definitely think that she would do that. In my mind it would be ripped away to reveal this yellow custom Atelier Versace bodysuit which gives this almost bondage look with gold crystal embellishments. I created this bodysuit inspired by a cocktail dress from Atelier Versace Spring 2016 Couture and I definitely think it would be something that Jennifer would be drawn to. I would add this vintage 1990’s Gianni Versace gold studded black leather bomber jacket for Jennifer to perform “Jenny from the Block” and round the wardrobe changes out with slipping into this yellow woven strip Atelier Versace Spring 2004 Couture strapless cocktail dress with a car wash fringe hem. It would be the perfect look to finish the set out with something like “Lets Get Loud.” I wouldn’t do a whole lot when it comes to styling. Just add voluminous curly waves, smokey eyes, nude lips, and a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi sequined over the knee mesh boots to make this a performance wardrobe to remember. Just because Rihanna is nominated for two 2018 MTV Video Music Awards for her collaboration “Lemon” with N.E.R.D. doesn’t mean that she is going to show up. we haven’t heard that she is presenting or performing yet, so I wouldn’t hold my breath that she will be on hand next Monday. With that being said I am really hoping she does because Rihanna always brings the fashion factor to the red carpet. In fact the last time Rihanna was on the red carpet at the VMA’s was back in 2012 where she wore a very simple white Adam Selman draped gown and then in 2016 she performed in several looks from brands like Vetements, Hood by Air, and Alexandre Vauthier. If the fashionista makes the trip to NYC for the VMA’s on Monday I want to see her give structured edge and glam with this Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2018 Couture ensemble which features structured gloves and a strapless velvet column gown. When I saw this gown come down the runway Rihanna really came to mind. I feel like there are many who would wear the simple column gown, but I feel like Rihanna is one of the few who would be able to make the gloves work on the red carpet. I want to see her style this look like a very rich lady with a sleek side parted bouffant updo, smokey eyes, red lips, black Tom Ford strappy feather trimmed sandals, and a selection of Chopard jewelry including a pair of diamond and emerald drop earrings and a statement diamond and emerald collar necklace. These touches would really make this an absolutely amazing moment for this red carpet. Shawn Mendes has three VMA nominations and will be performing his nominated song “In My Blood” on Monday. I won’t lie I have a bit of a crush on Shawn I think he is really cute and I think that he could be a really major style star. He has those model good looks and should take advantage of them. I really want to see Shawn join the Balmain Army on this red carpet. I think he would shut down the red carpet wearing this black velvet Balmain Fall 2018 Menswear skinny tuxedo which features a single silver button, shawl lapels, and crystal embellishments. Just the tuxedo though. I would swap the runways crystal studded draped top that the tuxedo was paired with on the runway for either a crisp white button down for a more classic look or a black t-shirt to give this look a more laid back vibe. I personally think that the t-shirt is the way to go for the VMA’s red carpet and I think that a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Spooky Colonne’ glitter and spiked loafers to really make this look head to toe perfection for the VMA’s red carpet.
The 2018 MTV Movie & Television Awards will take place on Monday August 20, 2018.
