Next Monday in London the cast of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again will celebrate the premiere of the much anticipated sequel to the ABBA tracked Broadway hit turned box office blockbuster. I am a self proclaimed theater geek and so I have high hopes for both this movie and for the promo tour that surrounds it. All of our favorite stars from the original film will be back with the addition of some new faces! It has been 10 years since the Mamma Mia first debuted and I was looking back at the fashion at that premiere and I have to say that I am going very left on the looks that the cast brought to the London premiere of the first film back in 2008. The name of the game was short mini dresses and a red satin coat dress for Meryl. Celebrity style has come so far since then and I am really excited to see what the stars will bring to this red carpet. As the center focus of the film I went for my most dramatic look for Amanda Seyfried. I love seeing her step out on a red carpet and cannot wait to see what she will bring to the red carpet at this premiere. We have never seen Amanda wear a Ralph & Russo gown in the past, but when I saw this acid yellow hand pleated chiffon gown which features a woven bodice, sweetheart neckline, and sashes draped from the shoulders I thought about how it would be a major moment for her to bring to this red carpet. It fits the easy, bright, and summery vibe of the film and I really do think that Amanda would bring this gown to life with effortless ease. The gown almost reminds me a bit of the Valentino Couture gown that Sarah Jessica Parker wore for the NYC premiere of Sex and the City 2, but in a different manner. This gown paired with a braided updo, defined eyes, pink lips, nude crystal embellished Rene Caovilla ankle wrap sandals, and a pair of David Morris ‘Illusion’ chandelier earrings with marquise-cut, princess-cut, pear shape and round diamonds would all make for a really major moment for Amanda to bring to this red carpet. Cher has joined the cast this go around with a role to play Amanda’s characters grandmother. Cher is eternally fabulous and I know that we are in for some sort of treat when she steps out for the London premiere of the film. Most of what Cher wears is custom. It very well could be a custom Marc Jacobs ensemble that we see from Cher at this premiere. With that in mind I think that this white Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Fall 2018 beaded stripe jumpsuit which features a long sleeve blouson top and high waisted wide leg pants is what first came to mind when I was thinking of the perfect look for Cher to bring to this red carpet. I would imagine that if Cher did wear this look i would imagine that the plunging neckline would be sewn up just a bit. I mean Cher does have it going on, but I think that bringing the neckline up just a bit would make this look perfect for Cher. Long sleek blond Cher hair, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of white Saint Laurent ‘Tower’ crystal toe cap pumps all would ensure that Cher is on top of her red carpet game. Christine Baranski isn’t one of the biggest style stars in this cast, but she has had some really chic moments thanks to brands like Alexandre Vauthier and Zac Posen in the past. 10 years ago Christine rocked a short pink Gucci by Frida Giannini for the London premiere of the first Mamma Mia movie. I went for the most disco moment of all the wishes today for the look I want to see Christine wear next Monday for the premiere of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! with this dark sapphire blue Monique Lhuillier Fall 2018 RTW sequin faux wrap midi gown which features a high neckline with a cut-out deep v and an asymmetrical hem. This is a really chic moment for Christine to bring to the red carpet for this premiere. It isn’t the light and summery looks like I picked for Amanda or Cher, but I feel like it is the perfect moment for Christine. The perfect styling of this gown would include her signature voluminous bob, defined eyes, soft rose pink lips, a navy Judith Leiber Couture tall slender rectangle evening clutch, a pair of black metallic suede Christian Louboutin ‘Choca’ strappy sandals, and a selection of London blue topaz and diamond Pasquale Bruni jewels including a pair of ‘Ghirlanda’ pendant drop earrings, a ‘Ghirlanda’ statement cocktail ring, ‘Me And You’ center stone ring, and a floral ‘Bon Ton Je T’Aime’ ring.Since the promo tour for Cinderella I have not been a fan of what we have seen Lily James bring to the red carpet. I’m hoping that she will be back on top of her game as she steps out to promote Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! She plays the younger version of Meryl Streep’s character. I really do hope that Lily brings something really chic to this red carpet. I went for couture, but something light and breezy for Lily to rock with this nude Christian Dior Fall 2018 Couture strapless a-line tea length gown which features a corseted bodice, belted waist, and flared hem. I rolled my eyes as I watched this collection come down the runway. Last fall Dior was 50 shades of grey and this fall Maria Grazia Chiuri gave 50 shades of beige. It is all so incredibly boring. This dress is chic, but it is also a blank canvas for some really great styling and that is what would keep this look from being boring. I would elevate this dress with a cream and blue Olympia Le-Tan ‘Park Place’ Monopoly deed card clutch, a pair of nude Christian Louboutin ‘Hot Jeanbi’ lace pointed toe pumps, and a selection of Dior High Jewelry diamond and sapphire jewels including a pair of drop earrings and a bangle bracelet to really make this a perfect premiere moment for Lily. Rounding out this set of wishes is the fabulous Meryl Streep. Based on the previews I don’t know if Meryl is actually in this movie. It seemed like all of the clips in the preview that had Meryl in them came from the first film and the vibe gives that Meryl’s character has died. I hope I am wrong. I hope Meryl steps out next Monday at the premiere to make me guess even more than I already am, and do so in high style. I would expect Meryl to be the one who gives us the most casual moment and that is why I picked this tangerine Lanvin Fall 2018 RTW long sleeve button up shirt gown which features beaded details on the collar, bodice, and cuffs. This is the easy chic moment that I know Meryl would be able to deliver on this red carpet with ease. I would have her belt the gown to define her waist and style it with a gold velvet Roger Vivier ‘Club Chain’ tassel detail clutch, gold Manolo Blahnik ‘Carolyn’ glitter mid-heel slingback pumps, simple makeup, and a romantic updo to really make this a very chic moment for Meryl.
The London premiere of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will take place on Monday July 16, 2018.
