Over the last several seasons I have been craving something new from Elie Saab. His spring collections have been light and gold and his fall collections have been dark and full of velvet. I wanted to see him take a risk. Back when I first fell in love with fashion and Elie Saab’s designs he was bringing different vibes every single season. That had tapered off the last few seasons, but his creative mind was back on the game this season. I absolutely adore the Fall 2018 Couture collection. The collection was titled “Of Forms and Light” and celebrated the harmony of natural forms and color. It brought out details we have never seen from Mr. Saab before. One of my favorite details were these embellished cage like details that were seen on the bodices of gowns as well as this seasons take on the traditional finale bridal gown. While Mr. Saab tends to take his inspiration from his home of Beirut, Lebanon this season he looked to Barcelona to inspire this collection. You can see the inspiration from the famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. Some of the architects most famous projects including Parc Güell, Casa Batlló, and La Sagrada Familia and you can definitely see the inspiration from the architect with an artist’s mind. We say Elie Saab play with more drama and structure than we have in recent years. He still delivered his beautiful crystal embellished gowns and cocktail dresses, but they were seen along side voluminous ruffles that I cannot recall Mr. Saab bringing to the runway before. I mentioned the cages before being one of the details I really loved, but I also was really drawn to the dramatic un-embellished ruffled that were scattered on bodices, and used for one shoulder cocktail dresses. Another thing that I loved this season, in addition to several other seasons recently, is that Elie Saab has been giving perfectly tailored pant ensembles and this collection gave them in many iterations from jumpsuits with trains to suits that can be worn in middle of the day with ease. I think this is the first time in a while that I feel like every single look from this collection deserves a major moment on the red carpet. I feel like between the fall film festivals, awards season, and then saving some things for Cannes next year that there are a plehtora of possibilities for stars to bring this collection to life on the red carpet. I also feel like we could see Elle & Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, Emilia Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Amanda Seyfried, Gemma Arterton, Olga Kurylenko, Helen Mirren, Paz Vega, Rowan Blanchard, Celine Dion, Tessa Thompson, Zendaya, Zoey Deutch, Meghan Markle, Queen Letizia, Queen Maxima, Princess Charlene of Monaco, Zoe Saldana, Clotilde Courau, Naomie Harris, Bella Hadid, Olivia Wilde, Sofia Vergara, Daisy Ridley, Selena Gomez, Suki Waterhouse, Freida Pinto, Lily James, Elizabeth Olsen, Allison Williams, and more could really bring looks from this collection to life on the red carpet.
