Anna Wintour is in Paris right now to take in all the newest couture collections, but before we really get into those collections I have wishes of looks I want to see her snatch up and add to her wardrobe from the Resort 2019 collections. Resort is one of the longest seasons of the year. It started the first week of May and we are still seeing collections released every single day. Usually around now is the time we see the all the collections come to an end as the couture circuit also presents all of its new collections. The clothes we see during Resort (or Cruise as some brands refer to it) are usually much more laid back than Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter collections. The presentations, be they runway or lookbook, tend to be a less avant garde yet still true to the codes of each brand. When it comes to an enviable “star” wardrobe I feel like Anna Wintour has one that I would love to raid. She is a true collector of high fashion. She is a couture client. She is always herself no matter what designer she is wearing or what season the piece may be. I love that about her. Something that she wore 10 years ago could easily be added back into her daily rotation today. So when I went through all of the collections picking looks for Anna I kept her personal style in mind. It is fitting to kick off this set of wishes with Anna’s go to label, Chanel. I know the book says The Devil Wears Prada but really Anna’s most worn brand is Chanel. When I saw this chic dove grey, turquoise, watermelon pink, and white Chanel Cruise 2019 cap sleeve gown which features stripe details, round neckline, and an ankle length Anna was the first (and really the only) person that came to mind. There are always at least one or two looks in all of Karl Lagerfeld’s collections for Chanel that I think are designed specifically with Anna in mind. This is one of those looks. Anna doesn’t tend to wear a whole lot of Dior but there have been a few times that I can recall her wearing a Dior ensemble. I feel like she would definitely wear this Christian Dior Cruise 2019 ensemble which features a beige and blue toile print double breasted watteau neck trench coat and greige tulle a-line skirt. It’s just that chic lady like style that we are used to seeing from Anna, but in a bit of a more voluminous silhouette. It could be a chic look for Anna to make a trip to a Broadway show.
The only day to day look I picked for Anna is this chic Emilia Wickstead Resort 2018 below the knee dress which features a crew neck and ruched short sleeves. Usually when I do these seasonal wishes for Anna they are full of casual looks, but I was more drawn to gowns for Anna this season. But this floral dress is definitely something that I could see Anna being snapped wearing as she enters One World Trade Center everyday to reign over Vogue.
Style wise I think that this peachy psychedelic print Emilio Pucci Resort 2019 sequin gown which features long sleeves and a column skirt is the one that is the furthest stretch. We very rarely see Anna wear sequin looks like this for anything, but I totally think that this would be a glamorous moment for her to bring to just about any red carpet.
An back in the 90’s and early 2000’s Anna wore quite a bit of Armani on the red carpet, but I honestly can’t even recall the last time she did. When I saw this lilac and rose pink Giorgio Armani Resort 2019 sleeveless gown which features a tulle flower on the neckline, tiered peplum waist, and a trumpet skirt it reminded me of some of the Armani looks that Anna has worn and that it would be a really chic moment for her now.
Finally is this blush J. Mendel Resort 2019 gown which features a high ruffle neckline, flutter sleeves, and multi-tone red floral embroidered details. The New York based luxury brand just has filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. bankruptcy court and it’s future is unknown. I wonder what will come of the brand. It hasn’t seemed to slow down its use on the red carpet, but I wonder if the Queen of the Fashion World would pick up a look from the brand. I can’t find a time when Anna has ever worn J. Mendel in the past, but I really do think that this floral gown is another perfect gown for her to wear on the red carpet.
