2018 BET Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

Tomorrow night is the 2018 BET Awards and I am interested in seeing what all the stars who are nominated, performing, and presenting will bring to the red carpet. This isn’t usually one of the red carpets that I get really excited about. The big names usually skip the red carpet and a lot of the looks that we do see on this red carpet are basic or tacky. I would love to see the stars turn out something different and prove me wrong. The wishes I’ve made for this red carpet would definitely help just do that.Coming on the surprise release of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first joint album Everything Is Love I would love to see the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist nominee on the red carpet, or at least seen inside, at the 2018 BET Awards. But sadly she will not. She and Jay have a tour stop in Amsterdam tonight and tomorrow so that won’t happen. If she did I would go sexy but short with this black Azzaro Spring 2018 Couture long sleeve cocktail dress which features sheer paneling, sequined embellishments, and a draped skirt. This isn’t something I would pick for Bey to rock if she was walking the red carpet, but for an event like this I feel like she would sneak in the back door and this would be the perfect look if she did just that. Add a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Mechante Reine Spikes’ crystal, spike, and ribbon embellished PVC pumps, a sleek high ponytail, smokey eyes, red lips, black nails, an emerald green Judith Leiber Couture malachite patterned faceted clutch, and a selection of Lorraine Schwartz jewels including a pair of black diamond and carved emerald statement drop earrings and three diamond and emerald rings (one, two, three) to really make this moment sexy glamour from head to toe. Issa Rae paid homage to black American designers recently when she hosted the 2018 CFDA Awards. She rocked looks from Pyer Moss, Sergio Hudson, Shanel, and Victor Glemaud while she hosted this years fashion awards. She has definitely been one of my favorites to watch on the red carpet over the last year or so as she has really started making waves in the red carpet fashion world. Her performance in Insecure has earned her a nomination for Best Actress this year and I really want to see Issa bring it to the red carpet tomorrow night. She loves color and print, but I only went for the former for the perfect dress for her to wear tomorrow. This red Roberto Cavalli Resort 2019 one shoulder cocktail dress which features a bias cut and a rise and fall flamenco hem is a simple yet glamorous statement and I really do feel like it would be an absolutely chic moment for Issa to bring to the BET Awards red carpet. I didn’t keep the look totally devoid of print adding a multi-tone red Judith Leiber Couture ‘Singaraja’ crystal encrusted zig zag pattern clutch. Finishing the look with a braided updo, smokey eyes, glossy nude lips, a pair of red Aquazzura ‘Lily of the Valley’ sandals, and Kendra Scott ruby tassel earrings would really ensure that this is such a chic and flirty moment for Issa to bring to life on the red carpet. Janelle Monae is one of the red carpet style stars whom I always get excited to see named either as a nominee or a presenter. She has this box of style that she sticks to, but she never is boring. Black, white, and red. That’s pretty much all we see color wise from Janelle. That could get tedious and tired. I’m always complaining about stars who wear LBDs on the red carpet all the time. What is different about Janelle is she doesn’t stick to basics on the red carpet. She is always playing with pattern, embellishment, volume, and structure. That is what I love about Janelle and her style. She is both performing and nominated tomorrow night so I want to see her step onto that red carpet giving me life. This black velvet Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2018 RTW tuxedo which features a double breasted crystal button detail blazer, an off white ruffled blouse, and button embellished shorts is something I can totally picture that Janelle rocking on the red carpet. It gives an 18th century menswear meets totally 80’s moment and I feel like Janelle is the only person whom I think could really make this look come to life on the red carpet. Vintage inspired finger waves, defined eyes, red lips, a selection of simple white and black diamond band rings, a black velvet Roger Vivier floral crystal buckle embellished envelope clutch, and a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Iris’ patent leather feather detail sandals are all the touches I would add to really make this a perfect moment for Janelle. Nicki Minaj is also performing tomorrow night at the BET Awards. She has been having some major moments on the red carpet recently with her ombré red Oscar de la Renta sequin gown and matching tulle opera coat at the Met Gala being one of the best. I kept the flame coloring inspiration for the dress for her to wear tomorrow night with this red and orange fringe Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Fall 2018 cocktail dress. This isn’t what one would normally expect to see as a wish for Nicki, but I do think that this would be a really glam statement moment for her to bring to this red carpet. She tends to like skin tight gowns, cocktail dresses, and jumpsuits for her red carpet looks so the shape is definitely out of her typical wheelhouse, but I feel like with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of red & gold Christian Louboutin ‘Tornade Blonde’ wraparound plexi heel sandals, and ruby Annoushka ‘Sutra’ tassel earrings that this would be a really great moment for Nicki to rock on the BET Awards red carpet. Every time that Taraji P. Henson has walked the red carpet at the BET Awards, except for once back in 2009, she has given short dresses a go on this red carpet. That is probably going to be the case if she steps out on the red carpet tomorrow night where she is nominated for Best Actress. While I know that is what is likely I went a more glamorous route opting for this uber sexy black Cushnie et Ochs Resort 2019 asymmetrical gown which features a multicolored sequin bandeau beneath a draped v-neckline silhouette, long sleeves, a column skirt, and a thigh high split. I definitely think that if anyone could take this gown and make it a major sexy moment on the red carpet it would be Taraji. She has this inherent sex appeal and I know that she would just ooze sexy glamour wearing this gown with a pair of black patent leather Gianvito Rossi ‘Manhattan’ strappy sandals, sleek center parted hair, smokey eyes, nude lips, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond waterfall earrings. Yara Shahidi suited up in custom Tory Burch for the MTV Movie & Television Awards over the weekend and I am really hoping that the YoungStars Award nominee will be on the BET Awards red carpet tomorrow. I went in a totally different direction than that Tory Burch look for Yara opting for more of a flirty and sexy Attico Fall 2018 RTW sequin mini dress which features features a wrap front silhouette and long sleeves. This dress is disco glam sexy and something we don’t often see Yara bring to the red carpet. Usually her looks are hyper feminine and this would be a really nice change of pace for her to bring to the BET Awards red carpet. I feel like this look would be perfectly styled with her hair styled in pulled together curls on top of her head, defined eyes, watermelon pink lips, a pair of black and white stripe Manolo Blahnik ‘Tresov’ pony hair and leather ankle strap sandals, and a selection of gold Jennifer Fisher jewels including ‘Quad’ hoop earrings, a double band ring with pave white diamonds, a cigar band ring with half pave black diamonds, a skinny flat chain link band with pave white diamonds, & a pin ring with pave white diamonds.

The 2018 BET Awards will take place on Wednesday June 20, 2018.
