2018 BET Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Full disclosure. I don’t watch BET and I have never watched a BET Awards before. I check out the pictures coming from the red carpet and that is about it. I am usually very underwhelmed by what usually is seen on this red carpet, but with the stars who are nominated and presenting this year I am really interested in seeing what will come from this red carpet this year. Coming on the heels of her role as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival Ava DuVernay is the only female nominated for Video Director of the Year for her successful film A Wrinkle In Time. Ava has a very chic, and modest, sense of style so I tend to have a hard time picking dresses for her to rock on the red carpet. I would love to see her give a metallic moment wearing this silver lamé Osman silk blend maxi dress which features a tie fastened round neck, a back button fastening, a rear keyhole detail, metallic threading, a tie waist, an ankle length, and tiered long sleeves. We don’t often see Ava wear anything very shiny or sparkly and I feel like this would be a really major moment for her to deliver on this red carpet especially if she pairs it with her signature half up half down braids, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of black satin Prada crystal strap embellished pumps. Cardi B is very pregnant by now so I wonder if she will be able to make the journey from NYC to LA for the 2018 BET Awards. She is nominated for seven awards either as a main or featured artist at this years show, but she is not confirmed to perform. That makes me think that she is probably not going to be on the red carpet, or seen inside, at the 2018 BET Awards. I was inspired by the pink Tom Ford gown that Cardi wore for her performance at the Latin Billboard Awards for the gown I picked for Cardi to wear on this red carpet if she does attend. I went through so many ideas to pick for Cardi to rock on this red carpet, and wasn’t in love with anything. Until I saw this azure blue silk and silver sequin Prabal Gurung Resort 2019 side twist matchstick paillete gown which features a fit and flare silhouette with long sleeves and a rounded neckline. I won’t lie I totally didn’t think of the Tom Ford gown when I first saw it, but when I put the two together I totally was sold. They have similar styles and I feel like despite the fact that Cardi did just wear a gown similar to this Prabal gown that it would still be a chic maternity moment to this red carpet. A full afro, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of silver glitter Casadei ‘Techno Blade’ pumps would really make this a sexy yet incredibly glamorous red carpet moment. Letitia Wright is nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Black Panther and it would really surprise me if we don’t see her on this red carpet. The MTV Movie Awards are tonight and I’m expecting to see Letitia on that red carpet so why not just hang out in LA until Wednesday and attend the BET Awards. She has become quite the fashion plate since bursting onto the scene earlier this year I would love to see Letitia continue to expand her repertoire of designers. For the BET Awards red carpet I went edgy glam with this Monse Resort 2019 ensemble which features a gunmetal grey sequin one shoulder draped tank and a pair of black satin wool and gunmetal grey sequin side drape pants. This is a sexy, edgy, and glamorous look and I really do think that Letitia would really make this a major moment on this red carpet. Style it with an braided updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, black leather & PVC Gianvito Rossi slingback ankle strap pointed toe pumps, and a pair of black and white diamond Stephen Webster ‘Lady Stardust’ earrings to really make this a truly major moment on the BET Awards red carpet. Mary J. Blige isn’t really one who I look to for boundary pushing fashion. She tends to stick to her very standard box, and I wouldn’t expect her to step out of that box for the BET Awards. This silver and blue beaded Roberto Cavalli Couture gown which features a corseted bodice with a draped sweetheart neckline, column skirt, and a dramatic upper thigh high split is exactly what one would expect to see Mary wearing on the red carpet, and I feel it would be a really beautiful moment for her to rock on this red carpet. It might be more formal than what we typically see on this red carpet I think that Mary would be one that would say rather overdressed than underdressed. Add a pair of silver Gianvito Rossi ‘G String’ sandals, a chic pompadour, smokey eyes, dark cherry red lips, a silver Edie Parker ‘Wolf’ glitter acrylic clutch, and a selection of DeBeers diamonds including ‘Battersea Light’ drop earrings and a ‘Albert Bridge’ bracelet and I think that Mary would be glamour defined. I am not sure if we will see Rihanna at the 2018 BET Awards. She does have five nominations this year, but she has only attended the awards twice. The first time was in 2008 when she wore a gorgeous Giambattista Valli flirty gown and the other was in 2015 when she wore a gold satin Giorgio Armani short suit. She hasn’t done the same amount of press that her Ocean’s 8 co-stars have done for the film and I just wonder if she will step out for this red carpet. If she does attend the BET Awards on Wednesday I would imagine that she will skip the red carpet and we will get pictures of her inside at her seat. I would love to see Rihanna take this oversized black Alexander McQueen Fall 2018 RTW lace trimmed tuxedo. This is totally in that style that we have seen Rihanna embrace a lot recently and I think that it would be a perfect inside look. I would really be in love with this look if she paired it with long tight curls, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pumps, and a pair of statement Chopard Red Carpet Collection mismatched titanium, opal, and sapphire orchid earrings to add a pop of color to this ensemble. Rounding out today is Tiffany Haddish, who is hosting the MTV Movie & Television Awards tonight, and I am really hoping to see that funny lady on the BET Awards red carpet. She is working with major stylist Law Roach so I feel like this black and white Tadashi Shoji Resort 2019 cross stripe draped halter jumpsuit might be a little low on the rungs of designers who we are likely to see dress her on the red carpet. I do think that this sporty jumpsuit would make for a really fun moment for Tiffany to rock on this red carpet. I feel like Tiffany could really showcase this kind of look because she has a very athletic shape. I think that pairing this jumpsuit with smokey eyes, a tight ponytail, red lips, a hot pink Casadei pleated clutch, and a pair of black Casadei crossover strap sandals all would add the perfect finishing touches to this ensemble.

The 2018 BET Awards will take place on Wednesday June 20, 2018.
