There are so many stars going to the Tony Awards this year that I had no choice but to double up and post two sets of wishes a day. What I have loved about the Tony Awards red carpet in recent years is that, thanks to Vogue, that they help bring some of the Broadway stars (who most designers would have shunned prior to Vogue and power stylists like Erin Walsh and Thomas Carter Phillips got involved) into the fashion world. So I have a bunch of the lesser known Broadway stars in these wishes as well picking gowns off runways, out of lookbooks, and off the racks for them to bring to the red carpet on Sunday night. Amy Schumer is NOT one of the ones whom I would expect to have a hard time getting a designer to dress her. She has been dressed by Brandon Maxwell, Zac Posen, Alexander Wang, and Prabal Gurung in the past. On Sunday night I would love to see the Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play nominee bring sleek structured figure hugging elegance to the red carpet on Sunday night wearing this red Roland Mouret ‘Coleman’ stretch-viscose evening gown which features a trapezoid neckline, 3/4 length sleeves, bell cuffs, ha trumpet silhouette. This is a chic dress and I definitely think that Amy would own this dress on the red carpet. My favorite looks of hers tend to come when she picks more of a sporty sleek silhouette and that is exactly what this gown delivers. I honestly have to say that my dream would be to see Amy rock a custom Atelier Versace gown on this red carpet. I think that Amy in a chic Atelier Versace corseted gown with a fitted silhouette and a draped dramatic train would really own this red carpet. But since that has to be custom to really work for Amy I think that if she had to pick a gown off the rack that this Roland Mouret gown would be perfect for this occasion. Sleek straight locks tucked behind the ears, defined eyes, nude lips, red Edie Parker ‘Wolf’ acrylic shard clutch, a pair of red Christian Louboutin ‘Cupidetta’ leather and PVC pumps, and vintage Cartier diamond cluster earrings all would really make this look one of Amy’s best red carpet moments ever. The Good Fight and Mama Mia: Here We Go again star Christine Baranski is a Broadway veteran and will be on hand Sunday night as one of the nights many presenters! I have to say while she always wears something really chic that Christine isn’t really one to push boundaries. I went through many options for Christine to wear on the red carpet on Sunday night, but ultimately I decided that I would love to see Christine rock this silver Michael Kors Evening Collection long sleeve gown which features a crew neckline, stripe patterned paillette embellishments, and a maxi length hem. 435 artisan hours were required to hand embroider the gown with micro sequins ‘paved’ into a stripe pattern and I definitely think that it would fit with Christine’s style, but really elevate it. She doesn’t usually do embellished gowns like this, but I definitely think that it would be a great option for her to rock on this red carpet. If you can’t do sequins for a Broadway awards show when can you? A silver Edie Parker ‘Flavia’ glitter frame clutch, her signature bob, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of silver Aquazzura ‘Eclipse’ pumps all would really ensure that this is a really beautiful moment for Christine to rock on the Tony’s red carpet. I made a wish for Condola Rashad last year when she was nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Play to rock a Monique Lhuillier gown, but she totally exceeded my expectations wearing a great Vivienne Westwood midi cocktail dress. So since Condola really rocked the red carpet last year I am really excited to see what she will wear this year since she is nominated for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in Saint Joan. On Tony night we tend to see a few ladies trot out in a quintessential New York designer, Zac Posen, and I would love to see Condola snatch a look from the designers just presented Resort 2019 collection. I think that this deep wine red Zac Posen Resort 2019 tulle ball gown which features an asymmetrical draped corseted bodice, full skirt, and a dramatic train. I will say that I have some reservations about picking this gown because despite being from a different collection I still feel like this gown is really similar to the Zac Posen gown that Miley Cyrus wore to perform at the Grammy Awards earlier this year. I do think that if this gown was worn by a big Hollywood star that people would draw more of a comparison so I think that Condola would be the perfect person to bring this dramatic moment to the Tony Awards red carpet. Even though you probably would never see them I would pair this dress with statement dark red satin Claudia Schiffer for Aquazzura ‘Lou Lou’s’ tiered tassel embellished pumps to really make this an absolutely beautiful moment. A sleek center parted low bun, defined smokey eyes, nude lips, and a pair of simple Gemfields ruby teardrop pendant earrings all would really ensure that this is an absolutely statement making moment for Condola. Katrina Lenk is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her role as Dina in The Band’s Visit. I went on a hunt for the perfect dress for Katrina to rock on the Tony Awards red carpet that would be a great follow up to the yellow Monique Lhuillier gown that she rocked last year. That gown was definitely purchased (or borrowed) off the rack and I would love to see that since she is nominated this year that she gets dressed by a major brand. I think that she would be the epitome of glamour wearing this smokey blue Marchesa Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features a strapless sweetheart neckline, beaded tulle column gown with metallic silver outlined threadwork, and tulle overskirt. There has been much of a debate about whether or not Marchesa should be punished in the Weinstein scandal since Harvey apparently wielded his power to help make his wife’s brand a must wear brand in Hollywood. I feel that if Katrina is dressed by a Vogue editor for this years red carpet that we could see her wear the brand after Anna Wintour has delivered full throated support behind Georgina Chapman and her brand. I definitely think that this gown would totally be a mysterious glam moment on Katrina especially when paired with a pair of dark grey glitter Miu Miu jeweled ankle strap sandals, a romantic updo, navy glitter smokey eyes, and a pair of vintage Fred Leighton diamond and aquamarine chandelier earrings. Rachel Bay Jones has not yet been announced as a presenter for Sunday’s Tony Awards, but since she was the winner of the Best Featured Actress in a Musical trophy for her performance in Dear Evan Hansen it would really surprise me not to see the actress back on the red carpet this year. Last year she made a bold statement wearing a turquoise strapless silk faille Christian Siriano ball gown and she looked lovely. I went back to the designer to pick the perfect dress for Rachel to rock this year. I think that this metallic black Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2018 ball gown which features a v neckline, metallic fabric, and allover floral print would be a chic moment for Rachel. It is *slightly* less statement making than her gown last year in terms of color but the embellishments and silhouette definitely make up for that. I think that with a romantic updo, defied eyes, nude lips, black Judith Leiber Couture satin rectangle box clutch, black Jimmy Choo ‘Vanessa’ tie front pumps, and a pair of grey spinel and diamond IVY New York ‘Euryalina’ drop earrings that this would definitely be a perfect look for Rachel to rock on the Tony Awards red carpet.
The 2018 Tony Awards will take place on Sunday June 10, 2018.
