Sunday night is the biggest night on Broadways. Over recent years the show has gotten more and more glamorous, in part thanks to the almost unexpected theater geek Anna Wintour, and I am really excited to see what this year will bring. It has been a few years since a female helped host the Tony Awards and I have to say I am really interested in seeing what the duo of Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban will bring to the stage this year. They are not the first names that would come to mind as my ideal hosts, but the idea is very intriguing. Josh was nominated last year for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and Sara has been nominated for two Tony’s for Best Score one for Waitress back in 2016 and this year she is nominated for SpongeBob Squarepants so we have some Tony history coming to the Tony stage. Sara Bareilles isn’t known for her style. Like at all. I can honestly say I can’t think of one moment that she has given on the red carpet before that I can say that I really loved. I hope that with being both the host of the show and a nominee this year that Sara will elevate her style and bring bold and dramatic glamour to the red carpet. I feel like for the red carpet I went for drama and glamour by picking this navy Oscar de la Renta strapless silk ballgown which features silver embellishments on the neckline, corseted bodice, and a sweeping train. I definitely don’t think we will see Sara wearing ballgowns on the Tony’s stage, but I think that for the red carpet that this would be a really chic moment. Usually Sara wears her hair down in loose waves, but I want to challenge her hairstylist to bring a bevy of different hairstyles on Sunday night. With this Oscar de la Renta gown I would want to see Sara bring some sleek glamour with a structured updo to really ensure that the drama and glamour of this gown are perfectly complimented. I think that with the beaded neckline that Sara should pair this gown with a pair of 19th century diamond chandelier earrings from Fred Leighton, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of navy Tory Burch ‘Logan’ beaded stiletto sandals and that sleek structured updo that Sara would kick off her Tony Awards hosting wardrobe in high style. Sara doesn’t usually do bold color, but for the opening of the show I would love to see her bring bright color via this hot pink and red strapless Sachin + Babi Resort 2019 strapless gown which features a column silhouette, a ribbon tied waist, and sexy split on the side. This is definitely something that is very much outside of what we are used to seeing from Sara, but I think that for a stage look that this would be an absolutely perfect moment. Simple hot pink Schutz open toe sandals, a half up and half down wavy hairstyle, nude lips, soft defined eyes, and a pair of statement Margot McKinney pink and purple floral drop earrings would really help kick off the telecast in high style.
I have a feeling that the bulk of what we will see from Sara this Sunday night as she hosts the Tony Awards will be dark muted colors and neutrals. I know she loves a black gown, but I banished them because I tend to think black dresses don’t end up translating as well to the screen, especially when they are just seen on the stage and not a red carpet. I do think that this dark emerald green Pamella Roland Fall 2018 RTW metallic embroidered lace gown which features a deep V neckline, cut out detail, and tiered ruffles would be that dark style gown that I think we will see quite a few of from Sara. Add a sleek low bun, defined eyes, rose pink lips, gold glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Fernando Jorge ‘Radiant’ 18k gold and diamond starburst earrings to make this look perfection.
From dark green to metallic champagne. I think that this Andrew Gn Fall 2018 RTW lamé halter gown which features an embellished neckline and waistline with a pleated skirt would be a really beautiful moment for Sara. The gown I think would catch the stage lights and shimmer beautiful. I would love to see her twirl and work this gown to its full potential on the stage at the Tony Awards. I think that she would definitely bring this gown to life with a romantic updo, golden smokey eyes, dark rose pink lips, champagne glitter Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel sandals, and a pair of white topaz drop earrings from Fred Leighton.
Finally the look I’ve picked for Sarah to close out the night to be a typically glamorous gown. I think that of all the gowns that I have picked for Sarah I think that this navy Tadashi Shoji Fall 2018 RTW sequin strapless column gown which features a black piped corset bodice is the most in her lane. I do think that she would be drawn to this gown, but I would really elevate it with the styling. I think that old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti strappy, crystal embellished stiletto sandals, and a glamorous diamond and sapphire Harry Winston necklace to really make it even more glamorous than it already is on the runway.
The 2018 Tony Awards will take place on Sunday June 10, 2018.
