In this set of wishes there are a bunch of Cannes veterans. People who have promoted films, served on (past and current) juries and even a few awards winners. The festival decided this year to open up to more new filmmakers and the films are somewhat lacking in some star power. So with that in mind the nights where there are big stars in the film that is screening I am really hoping that the stars really bring it. Riley Keough has two films screening at the festival one in competition and one out of competition, The House That Jack Built is screening in the latter. I am a little worried about what she will bring to the red carpet after she was (surprisingly) the only person in the Louis Vuitton contigant at the Met Gala whose look I loathed. It was a bad gown to begin with then the hair, makeup, and gloves just brought that look down even further. I am hoping that her looks over the course of Cannes will show her back on the top of her game. I had originally picked one of the Louis Vuitton Fall 2018 RTW runway dresses that her Met Gala gown was inspired by for Riley to wear for the films photocall, but decided that after that disastrous look that I would make a swap. I did stick to Louis Vuitton however picking this black leather Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2017 cowl neck cocktail dress which features a mini length and a belted waist. It is Cannes and usually I want to see summery styles on the photocall platform overlooking the French Riviera, but I feel like if anyone would be able to sell a leather to me in the heat that Riley would be the perfect person. Style it with a loose bun, defined eyes, red lips and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Choca Lux’ spike stud embellished sandals to really make this a glamorous and edgy moment for Riley to deliver for her photocall. For the premiere I went looking outside of Louis Vuitton. I really want to see this red liquid sequin Valentino Spring 2018 Couture strapless tea length column gown which features a dramatic train and I do believe that Riley would be able to sell this look to me. She has the edgy glamour that could really make this a beautiful moment especially when paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, matching red lips, a pair of red Gianvito Rossi ‘Plexi’ pumps, and statement white and rose gold set Louis Vuitton ‘Spirit of Travel Shanghai’ earrings in diamonds, spinels, and spessartits. After presiding as the president of the Un Certain Regard jury at last years Cannes Film Festival we will see Uma Thurman back on the red carpet at the festival to promote her latest film The House That Jack Built in an out of competition screening at this years edition. Uma is at her best when she’s in Cannes and I am really looking forward to seeing what she will bring to the festival. For the films photocall I want Uma to bring the couture factor wearing this black Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture pencil dress which features an oval neckline, think belted waist, below the knee hem, and long sleeves. When they announce films usually the first look I think of is the glamorous gown that I want the star of a film to wear for the premiere, but that it not the case here. It was this Dior moment that I thought of. While it is a simple LBD I do think that Uma would really ensure that it is a beautiful moment. A pair of black satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Kyoto’ bow detail pumps, sleek bun, defined eyes, nude lips, and a selection of Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a pair of emerald fringe earrings and a statement emerald cocktail ring all would really ensure that she has a really beautiful moment for the photocall. For the premiere I want to see Uma have her first moment from the new Givenchy wearing this silver beaded Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture (what I imagine to be sleeveless) column gown which features a crew neck and fringe skirt. I feel like if anyone could sell the flirty yet glamorous nature of this gown to me on the red carpet in Cannes that it would be Uma. She knows how to deliver couture effortlessly and that is exactly what I think she would be able to do with this gown. Pairing it with a pair of nude Gianvito Rossi ‘Glam’ crystal embellished sandals, a romantic updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, and more Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels including a simple pair of diamond drop earrings and a statement diamond cuff would all ensure that this look is glamour head to toe. Madame Le Jury President Cate Blanchett has not lived up to my expectations so far this festival. I was really excited and I am hoping that she will end the festival much stronger than she started it. One great look that she could add into her rotation for this years festival to really make a glamorous statement would be this (mostly) pastel Viktor & Rolf Spring 2018 Couture cap sleeve gown which features a bell skirt, bow detail on the bodice and cutout details. This is definitely not your average every day gown and there aren’t many who could really sell this dress to me, but Cate would definitely make this a very chic statement making moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. A defined eye, soft pink lip, romantic wavy updo, yellow Dolce & Gabbana ‘Kiera’ multi-color butterfly applique sandals, and a pair of Chopard opal drop earrings (that Cate actually wore the year she won her Oscar) would all be the perfect finishing touches to this look for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Of all the gowns that I picked for Ava DuVernay to wear over the course of this years festival I think that this wine colored Jason Wu double faced satin asymmetrical gown which features a round neck, short sleeves, and a high low hem is one of the easiest gowns to picture her wearing. This modest and elegant moment is definitely something that I could see Ava rock on the red carpet and I would pair it with a half up/half down hairstyle, defined eyes, dark bordeaux red lips, a pair of black Prada crystal buckle pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Chopard Green Carpet Collection diamond laurel wreath earrings to really ensure that it is a beautiful moment on the red carpet. As I have said before I am hoping that not over the course of the festival that we wont see Lea Seydoux wear wall to wall looks from Louis Vuitton solely. I want to see her branch out. She used to be a great ambassador of French fashion (as well as Prada and Miu Miu) delivering uber glam looks on the red carpet, but for the most part her Louis Vuitton looks have been lacking. She has rocked Alexis Mabille twice in the past for the 2013 Cesar Awards and a premiere for the James Bond film Spectre. Each was glamorous and I love them both. I feel like we don’t see enough Alexis Mabille on the red carpet, but in Cannes we usually see several looks from the designer on the red carpet. I would love to see Lea bring this gold Alexis Mabille Spring 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features a crystal embroidered bodice with a sweetheart neckline and a high low bubble hem. This gown is just elegance personified and if anyone could make this look effortless on the red carpet it would be Lea. Add a pair of gold Francesco Russo ‘Hill’ lace up sandals, sleek bouffant hairstyle, smokey eyes, pink lips, and a statement Chopard yellow diamond necklace and this look would be head to toe perfection. When they announced Kristen Stewart was a member of this years feature film jury many ideas when through my mind. One of the first looks that I thought of for Kristen to rock on the red carpet at the festival this year comes courtesy of Zuhair Murad. Some of my favorite looks Kristen have ever worn have come courtesy of Zuhair Murad. She made my Best Dressed of the Year list in 2012 wearing the brand. Kristen loves a pants look on the red carpet and I am sure that at least one of her looks this year will be pants. I thought that she would look so chic wearing this black Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture ensemble which features a velvet feather trimmed cape with beaded details, a sheer lace bodice (but I don’t want to see a bra, and a pair of black cropped pants with beaded tuxedo stripes. It is moody and edgy and that is exactly what Kristen is usually drawn too. I think that this ensemble paired with an edgy faux hawk hairstyle, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Miss Tennis’ lace booties, and Avakian ‘Kite’ diamond drop earrings that this might be Kristen’s best moment this festival.
The 2018 Cannes Film Festival is officially open and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018. The premiere of The House That Jack Built will take place on Saturday May 12, 2018.
