Cannes 2018: “Fahrenheit 451” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I have been crazy busy so I am a little behind in my Cannes wishes, but today we are back and continuing on! The 2018 Cannes Film Festival officially opened yesterday and I have to say I was really underwhelmed with the fashion that took to the red carpet (save for Chris Lee, Fan Bingbing, Julianne Moore, and Lea Seydoux) and it doesn’t make me more excited about what we will see as the festival continues. I hope to see the fashion get better and better over the course of this years edition. The midnight screening of the HBO movie Fahrenheit 451, based on the dystopian novel of the same name, is one that I am really interested in seeing this year. Midnight screenings are usually the sparsest in terms of glamour, but the cast of this film definitely has it in them to really make it a great night on the red carpet. Michael B. Jordan is always one who I look to for inspired menswear. When I edited photos I went along the idea of the traditional photocall and press conference occurring before the premiere. This year that has changed because press screenings before the gala premieres have been removed this year the photocalls and press conferences actually happen the next day. With that in mind that no matter when the photocall takes place I would love to see Michael give us bright color with this burnt orange, salmon pink, and white Tom Ford Spring 2018 Menswear ensemble which features a suede trucker jacket, cotton hoodie, white henley shirt, cuffed chinos, and a pair of sneakers that match the jacket and hoodie. This bright color moment is chic to see on the photocall platform overlooking the French Riviera. For the premiere I went to a classic look with just a hint of extra picking a navy silk Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2018 Menswear tuxedo which features crystal embroidered lapels and pockets. Cannes is the place to go big or go home and if you can’t bring a crystal embellished tuxedo to the red carpet here then where? A crisp white shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Tyler’ glitter detail oxfords all would add to the absolute glamour of this midnight premiere red carpet look for Michael. Sofia Boutella is one who I always love to see on the red carpet. She brings this edgy yet glamorous sense of style to the red carpet. For the photocall I went with couture, and one that is definitely a real statement look for a daytime event. I think that this white Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture which features a sheer blouse with a structured collar, lace detail on the shoulders, blouson sleeves and a just below the knee skirt overlaid with sheer tulle that hits the floor. This is definitely not your average photocall ensemble, but it is Cannes and I do believe that if anyone could sell this look to me I think that Sofia would do it with great aplomb. With a wavy bob, defined eyes, nude lips, silver Sophia Webster ‘Natalia’ low crystal embellished heel sandals, and a pair of rock crystal and diamond David Morris ‘Midnight’ earrings this would be a really great moment for Sofia to wear for her first Cannes photocall. For the midnight premiere I went with a really moody glam look with a grey and black sequin ombré Givenchy Fall 2018 RTW long sleeve column gown which features an ankle length hem on the runway, a closed back, and a crew neck. For Sophia on this red carpet I would love to see the brands creative director Clare Waight Keller lengthen this midi gown to hit the floor perfectly just to up the glam factor just a little but. Finishing the look with a finger wave updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, black Alexander Wang ‘Kaia’ PVC strap sandals, and a pair of vintage Cartier art deco diamond and emerald pendant drop earrings would all ensure that this is one of my favorite looks from Sophia ever.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival is officially open and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018. The premiere of Fahrenheit 451 will take place on Saturday May 12, 2018.
