Cannes 2018: “Cold War” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

I always love finding ‘new’ faces to feature in my wishes all the time. I think that when it comes to Cannes that if I see a glimmer of a star with high fashion history that I start to search for the perfect looks for them to wear on the famous steps of the festival. The film Cold War starting French actress Jeanne Balibar will debut at the festival on Friday May 11, 2018 and is one of those films with a star whom I learned of last year.Jeanne Balibar is one of those stars that. Despite the fact that she is a big name in French cinema I had no idea who she was before last years festival when she rocked the red carpet at the festival wearing Jacquemus for all of her appearances over the course of the festival. I did the same thing for her to do this year while she presents her latest film Cold War in the main competition. For the photocall I think that Jeanne would bring the effortless French ease to the photocall platform wearing this Jacquemus Fall 2018 RTW ensemble which consists of a camel belted top which features poet sleeves and a wrap front bodice and a pair of black cropped skinny pants. It is a simple look with a dramatic top and I definitely think that Jeanne would ensure that the effortlessness of the look isn’t lost. To keep the effortless of this look I would just add simple and easy hair and makeup and a pair of black Jacquemus ‘Les Chaussrures Gos Bouton’ chunky heel pumps. For the premiere of the film I thought that this grey silk chiffon draped dress also from the Jacquemus Fall 2018 RTW collection would be another easy and effortless look for Jeanne to wear on the red carpet at the festival. None of her looks last year hit the floor and I decided to go that same route again this year. Defined eyes, easy hair, red lips, a pair of beige Jacquemus ‘Espiral’ leather sandals with a sculptural heel, and a statement multi precious stone Bulgari High Jewelry necklace all would ensure that this is an absolutely beautiful moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I want to see many different types of glamorous moments on the red carpet over the course of the Cannes Film Festival courtesy of this years jury president Cate Blanchett. I would love to see Cate bring a custom look to the red carpet with this red and blue beaded floral print Saint Laurent Fall 2018 RTW collection inspired by one of the many mini dresses which graced the brands runway back in the beginning of March. This draped gown would be intricately beaded and probably heavy as all get out, but I think that Cate would make it incredibly effortless. I think a pair of red Saint Laurent ‘Amber’ sandals, old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and ruby tassel earrings would all compliment this gown perfectly. It could make for a very statement making and glamorous moment. I would bet good money that at least one of the looks that Ava DuVernay will bring to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet will come courtesy of Greta Constantine. She has worn several custom looks from the brand in the past year and I am always a fan of those gowns. I would love to see Ava take this black Greta Constantine column gown which features long sleeves with which silk bell cuffs, column skirt, and embellished details around the waist and bring it to life on the red carpet. Ava loves these modest looks with a hint of drama and flare and I really do believe that this would be a really glamorous moment for Ava to bring to this years festival, her first. I think that with statement Martin Katz diamond and emerald drop earrings and statement emerald cocktail ring, red lips, defined eyes, and a pair of black Gianvito Rossi ‘Plexi’ pumps with a silver toe cap that this would be another beautiful moment for Ava. As I have said several times now I am really hoping that when Lea Seydoux steps out over the course of the festival that she will bring us something other than Louis Vuitton. I feel like Lea has been stuck under the thumb of the brand for over two years now and I am ready to see her branch out again. Since there are so many red carpet moments over the course of the festival that she can afford to buck the brand a few times. I would love to see Lea bring this black Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown which features a rounded neckline, feathered sleeves, satin waist, silver star embellishments, and a fit to flare skirt. It reminds me of an Armani gown that Lea wore to a premiere at the 2013 festival, but executed in a much more dramatic way. This Dolce gown is glamour defined and I want to see Lea really compliment it perfectly with a vintage inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black and PVC Jimmy Choo ‘Levina’ floral embellished pumps, and Louis Vuitton High Jewelry diamond and tourmaline drop earrings. When it comes to edge and glamour I can usually count on Kristen Stewart to bring it to the red carpet. I am hoping that she will have a great run giving us a range of designers that really make my heart sing. I loved the idea of taking a dark gold sequin Proenza Schouler Spring 2005 RTW cutout detail mini dress, and turn it into a sexy and glamorous column gown. Sometimes I just start to look through old collections just for fun and I happened to have just gone through all of the old Proenza shows when Kristen was announced for this years Cannes Film Festival jury and thought that this archive dress inspiring a custom gown for Kristen would be a great moment for a Cannes Film Festival premiere. A punk inspired hairstyle, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of nude Tamara Mellon ‘Frontline’ sandals, and Anita Ko ‘Large Wing’ diamond earrings all would ensure that this is a perfect mesh of edge and glam for Kristen.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival opens Tuesday May 8, 2018 and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018.
