Cannes 2018 is just around the corner. We are less than a week until this years festival kicks off and I am uber excited for all that is going to come over the course of this years festival. The glamour of the festival is unparalleled. Go big or go home is the mentality. There are fewer big name stars in the films this year, but that is made up by the a-list jury that is helmed by Cate Blanchett. I have a feeling that while there are many young names and names I’m unaware of will bring some really major things to the red carpet over the course of this years festival. Laura Harrier is one of those young style stars whom I would expect to see bring something really glamorous to the red carpet at this years festival. She made her a-list debut last year in Spiderman: Homecoming. Since then we have seen Laura rock Calvin Klein, Prabal Gurung, Louis Vuitton, Brock Collection, Christian Dior, and Paco Rabanne on various red carpets. For her Cannes debut in the latest Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman I went to two of those brands that Laura has worn in the past for the perfect looks for her to wear. I would love to see Laura kick things off wearing this Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2018 ensemble which features a stone khaki silk cowl neck bodice with a matching belted waist, and a beige leather skirt. It is a beautiful and chic look and I think that if Laura ditched the black sweater jacket adding the perfect messy bun, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of bronze Brian Atwood 3D flower detail sandals that this will be an absolutely beautiful moment for her first Cannes photocall. For the premiere I went to one of my favorite gowns right now, and one that I really do hope to see on the Cannes red carpet. I love this strapless Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture ballgown which features an ivory ostrich feather bodice and a sheer black tulle skirt and I definitely think that Laura would be an unexpected, yet perfect, person to bring this gown to life on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I decided that since Laura seems to be such a great friend of the house of Louis Vuitton that I would style the look with accessories from the brand. A black Louis Vuitton ‘Night’ epi leather tube clutch, defined eyes, a sleek updo, red lips, a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Vanity’ crystal embellished sandals, and a selection of Bulgari High Jewelry including emerald and diamond chandelier earrings and an emerald, diamond, and sapphire cocktail ring would all ensure that this is a beautiful look for Laura to deliver on her first trip up those famed red carpet draped steps. As I have now stated several times I am most excited to see Cate Blanchett bring her glamour over the course of this years festival as the president of the jury. I have to say that I mostly went down a path of picking archive gowns for Cate. Gowns I have seen over the years that I’ve really wanted to see her wear, but have never had the right opportunity to put into a wish list over the years. One of those gowns is this light pink Alexis Mabille Fall 2015 Couture long sleeve gown which features an intricate floral embellishment on the neck, satin belted waist, mermaid silhouette, and a sweeping train. We don’t see a whole lot of Alexis Mabille on the red carpet and most of those moments come during the Cannes Film Festival and I definitely think that Cate has the glamour and presence to make this look come to life on the red carpet especially when paired with a sleek updo, defined eyes, pink lips, a pair of hot pink Alexander McQueen embellished bow detail sandals, and a pair of Tiffany & Co. pink kunzite cluster earrings. While I have shopped the runways for most looks for the stars of the Cannes Film Festival most of the looks I’ve picked for director and jury member Ava DuVernay to bring to the red carpet this year are off the rack. I tend to scoff at off the rack gowns for Cannes and I do believe that Ava will wear several custom looks from designers like Prada, Greta Constantine, and Armani Prive. Custom looks are hard to pick when they aren’t modifications, so runway and off the rack looks were really my only option. Versace isn’t usually the first brand that comes to mind when I think of Ava’s style, but I think that this light blue Versace pleated silk maxi dress which features long crystal trimmed sleeves is something that she would be drawn to. It isn’t your typical Versace gown, and that’s why I think I’m drawn to the idea for Ava. It’s simple, yet chic and that is exactly what Ava stands for on the red carpet. A bun of braids, defined eyes, nude lips, a silver Rafe ‘Vivienne’ faceted minaudiere, light blue velvet Versace pointed toe pumps, and a pair of ombré sapphire Chopard Red Carpet Collection drop earrings all would ensure that this gown is Cannes red carpet ready. In years past we have seen Kristen Stewart grace the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in gowns, cocktail dress, midi dresses, and pants. I have really high expectations about what we are going to see from Kristen this year. She knows how to really make me love her style and I feel like as a jury member this year that she and her stylist Tara Swennen are cooking up some really great moments. This black and silver Osman ‘Katherine’ strapless gown which features a ruched bustier bodice, asymmetrical draped sequins, and a sheer hem is one of the few off the rack gowns that I’ve picked for Kristen to wear on the red carpet in Cannes this year. This gown is sexy, moody, and edgy. Funny enough those are three words I also use to describe Kristen. I think that the sex appeal, edge, and glamour of this gown would be perfectly complimented with a sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Artisteric’ PVC detailed sandals, and a selection of Fernando Jorge clear topaz and diamond jewels including a pair of ‘Fusion Cross’ drop earrings and matching cocktail ring. Lea Seydoux knows how to do glamour on the red carpet and several of her greatest moments have come during the Cannes Film Festival. The only time that Lea has worn Valentino was for a Cannes photocall back in 2013. I would love to see her bring the glamour of the brand to the red carpet at one of the premieres this year. I was shocked that this light pink Valentino Spring 2018 RTW evening gown in lightweight silk gazaar which features a dramatic one-shoulder ruffled neckline, banded waist, a-line skirt, bow at the back, and a floor sweeping hem hasn’t been worn yet. I would have though for sure over the course of awards season that someone would have snatched this gown up. I do think that Lea’s classic glamour would definitely make this a really major moment for her to bring on the red carpet in Cannes and it would totally make for a major moment. Add a sleek updo, smokey eye, soft pink lips, silver Prada crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of Chopard diamond chandelier earrings to make this an absolutely beautiful moment.
The 2018 Cannes Film Festival opens Tuesday May 8, 2018 and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018.
