Cannes 2018: L’Orealistas Red Carpet Wish List Part 8

This post kicks off my final day of wishes for all the gowns I want to see L’Orealistas bring to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival red carpets. For the most part my wishes are just for the models at this point. L’Oreal has a good mix of film and television actresses, music stars, and supermodels that represent the brand and they are always some of the most glamorous stars on the red carpet at the festival. Alexa Chung is not an actress, music star, or supermodel. The a British writer, host, and fashion designer was announced as a face of L’Oreal Professional back in January, so I would bet that she will be invited to represent the brand on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival next month. In the past, not with L’Oreal, Alexa has only attended the festival once wearing a short Balenciaga cocktail dress for a premiere in 2011. It is often that we see Alexa on red carpets wearing midi, tea length, and short dresses on the red carpets, so the gown I’ve picked for Alexa to wear this year are already out of her wheelhouse. The first look I’ve picked for Alexa (who is known for her bohemian style) is a grey and white stripe Calvin Klein Fall 2017 RTW ‘Little House on the Prairie” gown. When I watched this show I was honestly really disappointed. The popcorn on the floor still makes me tummy turn, and the clothes seemed mostly unwearable. It would take a special kind of person to make a gown like this work on the red carpet and I think that Alexa has just the right ease and effortlessness to make this kind of gown come to life on the red carpet. I could very easily see Alexa asking Raf Simons (the creative director of Calvin Klein) to make this a tea length dress, and honestly I think I could be okay with that. I think that with some really glamorous diamond and a pair of light blue Calvin Klein cutout PVC detail pumps that this could be a chic moment for Alexa. The first collection I thought of when I was trying to pick the right gowns for Alexa was Chloé. The brand hasn’t had a really great red carpet moment in a really long time, but I do think that Alexa would definitely be the perfect person to bring this toffee brown Chloé Fall 2018 RTW long sleeve gown which features leather ruffles on the rounded sleeves, metallic gold armbands, a ribbon neck, and embroidered panels down the plunging neckline. This gown is very much inside of Alexa’s wheelhouse and I think that while it isn’t a traditional Cannes gown Alexa isn’t a traditional red carpet star. The final gown I’ve picked for Alexa is the most dramatic and arguably the most unlikely. Alexa has never worn a big ball gown in the past, but for the Cannes Film Festival I think that she would definitely own the red carpet wearing this dark red Valentino Spring 2018 Couture floral print ballgown which features a full skirt, ruched waist, ruffled neckline and sleeve, and a dramatic train. I do think that it could be a really great moment on the red carpet at the festival and it could be a personal best for Alexa. Cindy Bruna is one of the models who doesn’t bring a whole lot to the premieres red carpets but does for the parties. She’s worn Zac Posen and Georges Hobeika Couture for premieres and Zuhair Murad Couture, Balmain, Redemption, and Ulyana Sergeenko Couture for parties. She does have some really great style and I know that she could be one who has the potential to deliver eye popping glamour on the red carpet. I went down three really beautiful yet very different gowns for Cindy to wear this year. Up first is a bright and airy gown with this light yellow Georges Chakra Spring 2018 Couture sleeveless gown which features a mermaid silhouette with an ombré feathered hem. This is definitely one of the gowns I feel like we will see on a Cannes red carpet and I do believe that Cindy would be absolutely beautiful wearing this confection. The color against her skin would just pop and the feathered hem would catch the sea breeze beautifully. The second gown I picked for Cindy could be worn one of two ways. The aluminum Jenny Packham Fall 2018 RTW sequin gown which features a V neckline, draped knotted detail at the waist, open shoulder detail, and a key hole at the back could be worn as presented for one of the parties that Cindy is bound to attend or if she asked Jenny to customize this gown for Cannes adding a dramatic train that it could be a really great premiere ensemble. And finally I went with femme fatale glamour with this dark red Marchesa Fall 2018 RTW strapless tulle drop waist gown which features a sweetheart neckline, a fitted bodice, dramatic train, and a full skirt. This is an obvious gown that I think that the gorgeous model would sell on the Cannes red carpet. Victoria’s Secret model Jasmine Tookes made her Cannes debut last year attending a premiere in Georges Chakra Couture and a L’Oreal party in Alberta Ferretti. I really loved that Georges Chakra gown and she has been giving glam looks ever since including Jean Louis Sebaj at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and Monique Lhuillier at the Elton John Oscar Party. I went to some really beautiful gowns for Jasmine to wear this years festival and I am really looking forward to seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. The first look I’ve picked for Jasmine is this incredibly glamorous ruby red Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2018 stretch crepe and crinkle chiffon gown which features a v neckline, beaded floral appliques, cape detail from one shoulder, and a back train. I loved this gown the moment that I saw it in the lookbook many months ago and I definitely think that someone like Jasmine would sell this gown with great aplomb to me on the Cannes red carpets. The second gown I’ve picked for Jasmine is more of a structured look than we have seen her wear on the red carpet over the years. I love the back of this hibiscus orange Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2018 double face duchess satin ballgown which features a deep v neckline, gathered train, and an open back and while that neckline isn’t my favorite I think that Jasmine would be able to make it work. It would be a perfect gown to pair with Pamela Froman ‘Dancing Flame’ pendant drop earrings with matrix fire opal briolettes and diamonds to compliment the color of the gowns fabric. The last look is the biggest gown that Jasmine would have ever worn with this light lemon yellow Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture strapless ballgown which features a ruffled bodice and intricate floral embroidery on the skirt. Jasmine hasn’t had a big ballgown moment on the red carpet in the past and I definitely think that for a premiere on the breezy red carpet in Cannes that Jasmine would more than own this Zuhair Murad ballgown.  It honestly shocks me that that despite the fact that she was first signed with L’Oreal back in 2012 that Lea Michele hasn’t trekked out to the French Riviera to help promote glamour, and the brand, on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Back then Lea was one of the biggest red carpet divas out there, and while she isn’t on that same level anymore I think with the right gowns that she would totally own the red carpet at the festival. I went back and forth on so many looks for Lea to wear this year if she finally makes her Cannes debut. First is the boldest in terms of color with this red and fuchsia Christian Siriano Fall 2018 RTW silk faille bubble back gown which features an off the shoulder neckline, oversized cape sleeves, and a color blocking detail. The gown is definitely a very modern glam moment and I do believe that with the right tailoring that the gown would be a really beautiful look for Lea to rock on this red carpet. From sleek and bright to misty and voluminous with a pewter grey Marchesa Pre-Fall 2018 high low ballgown which features an illusion neckline, cap sleeve tiered tulle skirt, and a sheer bodice with silver and gunmetal metallic encrusted 3D flowers. Lea has worn a few Marchesa gowns in the past and I think that for a big and dramatic Cannes moment that Lea would definitely bring out her inner red carpet diva to bring the gown to life. Finally I have a wish for Lea to wear Oscar de la Renta. She hasn’t worn a look from the brand since Oscar passed, but was a huge friend and fan of the brand prior to that wearing looks for the Golden Globes, Emmy’s, SAG Awards, and Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpets among many others. I think that Cannes would be a perfect time to see her return to the brand wearing this black Oscar de la Renta ballgown which features large gold sequin details, a tulle skirt, and a strapless neckline. The shape of the gown reads entirely classic glamour and the sequins read modern glam and I definitely think that Lea would definitely be able to bring this gown to life on a Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Taylor Hill might have walked the red carpet at a couple of amfAR Gala’s in Cannes, but she has yet to ever take the main carpet at the Palais de Festivals by storm. I feel like this will be the year that Taylor finally does that and I am already excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. One of the designers that I think we would definitely see Taylor rocking on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet is Carolina Herrera. She is a friend of the house and I think that she would look really beautiful wearing this hot pink Carolina Herrera sleeveless silk taffeta evening gown which features light blue placed flower paillette embroideries, deep V neckline and back, full a-line skirt, and a floor sweeping hem. We don’t really see much Carolina Herrera in Cannes, but I think that Taylor would be the perfect person to bring the brand to the festivals red carpet this year. I went back to an off the rack gown for my second wish for Taylor to rock on this years red carpets. For Cannes I don’t tend to think of off the rack gowns, but Neiman Marcus just released a bunch of fall gowns for pre-order, so I don’t feel like it would be a faux pas. This forest green Oscar de la Renta Oscar de la Renta sleeveless silk faille evening gown which features deep V neckline and back, bow shoulder details, mermaid silhouette, and a sweeping train is gorgeous and I think that against Taylor’s skin tone that this would be yet another red carpet win for her. The final look I’ve picked for Taylor to rock on this red carpet is this beautiful plum Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2018 strapless layered silk tulle ballgown which full features a peak sweetheart neckline, layered tulle skirt, and hidden corset bodice. This gown is the perfect canvas for a statement diamond necklace and would be a totally gorgeous old Hollywood moment for Taylor to bring to life on this red carpet.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival opens Tuesday May 8, 2018 and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018.
