Cannes 2018: L’Orealistas Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

I did exactly what I want L’Oreal not to do when it comes to planning their L’Orealista red carpet appearances. I front loaded a lot of the actresses who are L’Orealistas into my first 4 wishes so I have a lot of the superstar models the brand employs still to get to. Most years there seems to be a front loading in Cannes of the big names in cinema to the first half of the festival, and the second half is sparse except for models. There are a few actresses that will sneak their way into these wishes, but I will say the rest of my L’Orealista wishes will focus on the models.Former Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson made her Cannes debut last year, and I have to say I almost forgot she was there. She only walked one red carpet the 70th Anniversary Soiree wearing an Erdem gown. I thought it interesting that Ashley would have received and invitation to that gala when she has never before been on a Cannes red carpet before. Then I learned that she was a L’Orealista and it all started to make sense. I would love to see the actress back in the French Riviera again this year, but in a much more dramatic and glamorous manner. I went shopping the runways for some really gorgeous looks that would allow Ashley to hold her own against a lot of the style stars that she will end up sharing the red carpets with. The first is a dark strapless Armani Prive Fall 2015 Couture strapless peplum ballgown which features pink, purple, blue, and green sequin embroidery. Ashley does dark glamour really well on the red carpet and so when I was thinking of the perfect looks for her to rock on this red carpet it was an easy decision for me to pick this Armani gown for her. I have been waiting a while for the perfect girl on the perfect red carpet to bring this gown to life and I really do believe that Ashley would be the perfect person to sell it to me. Following that I went in a much lighter direction. I believe that this lavender Georges Chakra Spring 2018 Couture sleeveless ball gown which features a plunging neckline, ombré feathers, and a flared hem is another dramatically glamorous look that I really think that Ashley could sell to me on the Cannes red carpet while also holding her own against the glamizons that truly know how to command this red carpet. The final look I picked for Ashley comes from the only designer I knew I wanted to see Ashley wearing on the red carpet this year, Moschino. The collection that Jeremy Scott just presented for Moschino was chock full of gowns that I could definitely see stars being drawn to on the red carpet at the festival and I definitely think that Ashley would be the perfect person to take this black and pink beaded jagged one shoulder Moschino Fall 2018 RTW gown and deliver it on the Cannes red carpet. It is the perfect meshing of edge and glamour and I really do believe that it would be another really beautiful moment for Ashley.Deepika Padukone also made her debut as a L’Orealista at last years festival. She attended the first two days of the festival wearing Marchesa and Brandon Maxwell. Choosing those two brands was actually really surprising to me. I was expecting lots of couture, maybe a traditional Indian design, but not the New York based designers that we don’t often see represented on the Cannes Film Festival red carpets. I wonder what she will bring this year. I went to three different markets to pick what I think are the perfect gowns for Deepika to wear on this years red carpet. The first was taking a trip back to India to a designer who shows at Lakme Fashion Week, Amit Gt. I always find that when the international stars bring a piece of their homeland to Cannes that they bring really beautiful moments to the red carpet. This purple Amit Gt floor-length gown rendered in organza which feature a pleated bodice, layered skirt, and feathered cap sleeves is dramatic and glamorous and I definitely think that it would bring the glamour to the festivals red carpet. Saree’s can be really gorgeous, but sometimes expected from a Bollywood actress. A couture gown from an Indian based designer throws the game for a loop and can make for looks that can rival the couture creations we see from the likes of Elie Saab and Ralph & Russo. The second look I picked for Deepika hails from the New York market like the gowns she wore last year. I think that while J. Mendel has only been worn on the steps of the Palais de Festivals once before that Deepika would be the perfect person to bring the brand back to life on the Cannes red carpet wearing this dusty rose J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2018 floral embroidered tulle gown which features an A-line silhouette with a mock neckline, long sleeves, contrast velvet waistband, and a voluminous skirt. While this might not be the first gown that comes to mind when I think of Cannes I think that if anyone could sell it to me that Deepika would be the perfect person. The final gown I’ve picked for Deepika is from the Parisian Couture Market. I would love to see her take the Cannes red carpet giving us glamour via this eggshell Valentino Spring 2018 Couture strapless column gown which features a bold sequined floral print, tea length hem, bow detail on the back, and a chic cape like train. This gown reminds me of the glamour of the 60’s and I think that if Deepika went full 60’s with the styling that this just might be my favorite of these three moments. Grace Bol from South Sudan is one of my favorite models of the moment. She has striking features and a beautiful complexion. I am praying that for her Cannes debut, should it be this year, that Grace will wow us wearing bold color. Instead of opting for gowns with dramatic trains or big skirts I decided to use color as the statement for the looks I’ve chosen for Grace starting with this bright orange Armani Prive Spring 2017 Couture one shoulder sleek column gown which features a side cutout. This gown has been something that I’ve wanted several stars to bring to life on the red carpet, but I really do believe that if anyone is going to really sell it to me it would be Grace. The color against her skin would just pop and her shaved head and usual simple makeup would add yet another dramatic layer to this beautiful moment. From sleek construction to goddess draping with this vibrant violet Giambattista Valli Spring 2018 Couture one shoulder gown. Again this gown is all about the color. The draping is chic and more dramatic of a silhouette than the other gowns I’ve chosen for Grace to rock on this red carpet. The final gown is this dark jade Roland Mouret cotton-blend cloqué gown which features a textured finish and drapes elegantly from one shoulder and has a slender strap at the other side while the fold at the hip frames the deep side split and a slim waistband. We have seen Grace wear designs from Roland Mouret on the red carpet before and while this gown usually wouldn’t make the cut for a red carpet gown for Cannes, I think that Grace’s presence would make this a really glamorous, yet simple moment for this years festival. At last years festival supermodel Irina Shayk was only a few weeks postpartum and rocking the red carpets in a major way wearing looks from Atelier Versace, Balmain, and Prada. I always look forward to the certain brand of sexy glamour that Irina brings to the festivals red carpets and I am looking forward to seeing what she will bring this year. It has been a hot minute since Irina has worn a Roberto Cavalli design on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. In fact she hasn’t worn a look from the brand since its namesake left. I think that it is about high time that we see Irina back in the brand for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. She doesn’t often wear print on the red carpet, but I think that this sexy draped raspberry red and black printed Roberto Cavalli Couture gown would be the perfect look for her to option for bringing the brand back to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Often Irina wears yellow on the red carpet, that usually comes courtesy of Atelier Versace, but this year I really want to see her bring this canary yellow Ralph & Russo Spring 2018 Couture double satin draped gown which features a gold crystal chainmail bodice, metallic gold coated silk fringing enhanced by Swarovski spheres, a dramatic cape, sexy split. This gown features more than 40,000 Swarovski crystals and that would really ensure that this gown sparkles under the sun of the French Riviera. The final gown is a sexy ensemble that kinda reminds me of the Emilio Pucci gown that Gwyneth Paltrow wore for the 2011 Emmy Awards. This sheer black Zuhair Murad Spring 2018 Couture ensemble which features a long sleeve crop top and a column skirt with a sexy center split is a chic look for the Cannes red carpet and I think that it would be a sexy look and I would love to see Irina pair it with a pair of black satin Gianvito Rossi ‘Opera’ coil sandals to really make this a really sexy glam moment.Finishing out today is another supermodel of the moment that I absolutely adore, Maria Borges. She made her debut on the red carpet at the Palais last year wearing a nude long sleeve Balmain gown with a feathered hem along with the whole crew of the Balmain Army. This year I want to see Maria take on more than one main stage red carpet because I really do love Maria’s style. I picked three really glamorous gowns for Maria to bring to the red carpets this year kicking off with a barely mint Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018 RTW strapless drop waist ballgown which features a leopard brocade and a belted waist. I definitely believe that Maria would be able to hold her own in the supermodel standoff between her and Joan Smalls who rocked the gown on the runway. I feel like she would be able to bring Brandon Maxwell to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet with great aplomb. I went into this years Cannes wishes knowing I wanted to put this ombré Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture strapless, pleated gown on some wish list. When I watched this show and saw this gown close I said immediately that it would be the perfect gown for Cannes and I definitely think that Maria would be the perfect person to bring this gown to the red carpet. The gown is beautiful and I know that Maria has the presence and the glamour to really bring this gown to life on the Cannes red carpet, it could be one of my favorite red carpet moments of the festival. Going back to the Spring 2018 RTW collection and looks that I am surprised didn’t get picked up during awards season I would love to see Maria bring the bold color glam to the red carpet wearing this hot pink Marc Jacobs Spring 2018 RTW strapless gown which features beaded fringe and a floral medallion waist. While this gown isn’t the drama of the first two gowns I do think that Maria would be able to take it and make it another really major moment for her to bring to the festival red carpet.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival opens Tuesday May 8, 2018 and will run through Saturday May 19, 2018.
