Honestly where has the time gone? I feel like I just started my wishes for this years Met Gala red carpet and here were are at my final set of wishes for this years red carpet. We are still two and a half weeks out from that famed red carpet and with each passing day I am getting more and more excited. I think that we are bound to see some really interesting takes on this years theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” We are bound to see lots of red. Gowns inspired by angels, churches, fire, religious garb from nun habits to papal robes. I am hoping that nothing is tacky or offensive, but being realistic I know that is bound to happen. Celine Dion made her Met Gala debut last year wearing an Atelier Versace crystal bodysuit with a draped waxed silk train. I want to see her back on the famed steps this year, and I picked a gown that would definitely command those famed steps. Since Celine started working with power stylist Law Roach she has been consistently shutting down the every red carpet, stage, and sidewalk she has stepped out on. She knows how to handle really dramatic looks and I think that she is one of the few who could really sell this this baroque ceiling print Michael Cinco Spring 2017 couture gown which features a column gown which features long gloved sleeves, all over crystal embellishments, and a really dramatic cape-like train attached at the waist. The print of this gown is dramatic and inspired by the ceilings of the Palace of Versailles and I really do think that if anyone could sell it to me on the red carpet that Celine is the perfect person to snatch it up. This is really the only red carpet where I think that this gown is appropriate. Celine could have the train made to detach so once she gets inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art and up the steps inside the great hall she can be free to make her way around the star studded gala without having her train stepped on. The gown is such a statement and I think that should be reflected with simple styling adding just a sleek hairstyle, simple makeup, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Corsankle’ metallic leather and lamé corseted ankle strap pumps.Gigi Hadid made her Met Gala debut in 2015 wearing a chic red Diane Von Furstenberg gown. Since then she has collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger for the gowns she wore in 2016 and 2017. I wonder if coming on the heels of her final Gigi x Tommy fashion show back in February if Gigi will wear one more Tommy Hilfiger gown on the Met Gala red carpet. Something tells me the answer is no. I honestly think that Donatella Versace will want to dress her. I went way back in the archive to Gianni Versace’s final Atelier Versace collection before he died to find the perfect gown for Gigi. I know that there are pieces from the Atelier Versace Fall 1997 Couture collection that are going to be in this exhibit, and I think that picking a gown from (or at least inspired by) this collection is probably incredibly likely. I think that Gigi would be absolutely beautiful wearing this white draped Atelier Versace Fall 1997 Couture draped gown which features one long sleeve and a crystal studded strong padded shoulder (like what we saw on Saoirse Ronan in Atelier Versace at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.) This gown is all glamour and I really think that Gigi would do Gianni proud wearing this gown on the Met Gala red carpet. I think that pairing this gown with a 40’s inspired updo, defined eyes, red lips, white Casadei ‘Blade’ metal plated heel sandals, and a pair of Messika diamond fringe earrings all would ensure that this look is the perfect balance of classic and modern glamour for Gigi to deliver on the Met Gala red carpet. Katy Perry was one of the co-hosts of last years gala and she absolutely shut the red carpet down from the open wearing Maison Margiela Artisanal Couture and the Dolce & Gabbana dress she wore in 2013 is actually is actually in this years exhibit. We have also seen Katy wear custom Prada, Moschino, Cute Circuit, and Tommy Hilfiger in other Met Gala appearances. I decided to put Katy back in Dolce & Gabbana for this years red carpet. I modified a blue velvet Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2016 Alta Moda gown which features gold and jeweled details, a square neckline, and puffy sleeves from a pencil cocktail dress to be a floor length column gown. While a lot of the gowns we have seen from Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda have been big ball gowns, I think that this is the perfect shape for Katy. It is more subdued in it’s shape, but all that detail really makes this a perfect gown for Katy to wear on this years Met Gala red carpet. This gown would be perfectly styled with Katy’s current signature platinum blonde pixie, navy defined lined eyes, red lips, a pair of black and blue Dolce & Gabbana ‘Bette’ sculpted heel sandals, and antique Victorian natural pearl and diamond earrings from Beladora. I have a feeling that after red carpet moments like Vionnet, Zuhair Murad, and Christopher Kane that wear will see this years Golden Globe Award winning Best Actress in a TV Series – Comedy star Rachel Brosnahan make her Met Gala debut. She could go down the rabbit hole and wear a custom gown from any of the big New York designers like Tory Burch, Michael Kors, or Zac Posen, but I decided to delve into the archives of Jean Paul Gaultier Couture instead. The Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2007 Couture collection is heavily religious influenced and I think that we are highly likely to see pieces of it in the exhibit. I looked for a piece that hasn’t been worn for Rachel to rock on her first Met Gala red carpet. I think that she would look beautiful wearing this cornflower blue and crimson Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2007 Couture sleeveless draped gown which features a sheer chiffon panel and a pierced bleeding heart detail on the chest. I think that this gown is incredibly glamorous and I believe that Rachel has the elegance to really make this look a beautiful moment on the Met Gala red carpet. A crimson red crystal embellished Judith Leiber clutch, defined eyes, a romantic updo, matching crimson lips, a pair of crimson Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Sophie’ sandals, and a pair of Yeprem diamond chandelier earrings all would perfectly compliment this gown.Aside from the obvious choices of Dolce, Gaultier, Versace, and McQueen the one designer I want to see on the Met Gala red carpet this year is Guo Pei. We have only seen the designer dress one star in the past. The Chinese coutuier has only ever dressed Rihanna for the 2015 Met Gala, but her Fall 2017 Couture collection had real religious over(and under)tones. I knew I wanted to see some wear wear this Guo Pei Fall 2017 Couture cap sleeve ball gown which features an embroidered gold breastplate and a stormy baroque printed organza skirt, so I went on a hunt for the perfect person. I went though so many ideas, but it was ultimately Zoey Deutch that I am tasking with making me fall in love with this gown on the Met Gala red carpet. I think the has the drama to really make this gown come to life. Add a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi perforated pointed toe pumps, a sleek 60’s inspired updo, simple defined eyes, an antique rose lip, and a pair of antique Georgian diamond drop earrings from Beladora would make this is truly showstopping moment of on theme glamour for Zoey.
The 2018 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. May 7, 2018.
