2018 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 11

I can’t believe that I only have three days of wishes left for the Met Gala. We might be on the tail end of the looks that I have picked for this years red carpet, but there are still many major moments that I really want to see on this famed red carpet. There are still a plethora of Met Gala regulars, and recent style queens, that I have wishes for.Bella Hadid knows how to deliver a chic and sexy moment on the red carpet. She is one of the few Dior ambassadors that consistently knocks it out of the park wearing the brand. I looked back on her past Met Gala ensembles and they are incredibly varried. Last year she was uhm…..unexpected in a skintight black lace Alexander Wang gloved sleeve catsuit, the year before she was the epitome of edge, drama and glamour wearing Givenchy Couture, and her debut in 2015 was short in custom Topshop. Each of those looks were black, and this year I went to the complete opposite end of the spectrum for the perfect moment for Bella. I took a very conservative route for Bella this year, especially in comparison to many of the other looks that she has worn. I want to see her give us the full modern Audrey Hepburn wearing this off the shoulder white Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture rounded hem midi dress which features a straight neckline, belted waist, a-line skirt, and 3/4 length sleeves. I saw this dress and while it wasn’t the immediate dress I usually think Bella would be drawn to, but I definitely think that she would turn this into such a really chic moment on the Met steps. I would want to see her pair it with a vintage inspired updo, defined winged eyeliner, red lips, a pair of white and PVC Off-White C/O Jimmy Choo pointed toe chandelier crystal embellished pumps, and a statement Bulgari High Jewelry diamond lace collar necklace to really ensure that this ensemble is classic glamour from head to toe, with just a hint of modernity. Despite the fact that Emilia Clarke has been the face of Dolce & Gabbana and Dior Fine Jewelry and is one of the biggest stars of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones she has only been to one Met Gala. She was a guest of Ralph Lauren in 2012 for the “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” themed gala. For this years gala I went with a designer we have only seen worn on the Met steps twice, Elie Saab. The master of the red carpets has only been worn by Elizabeth Hurley in 2009 and Katherine McPhee in 2012. Emilia has worn Elie Saab for a few smaller red carpets in the past, but never for an event as high profile as the Met Gala. I think that she would definitely own this red carpet wearing this black feathered Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture sleeveless gown which features a plunging neckline, belted waist, a-line skirt, and a dramatic train. This gowns is definitely a statement and I think that for the Met Gala red carpet it would be a great moment for both Emilia and Elie. At the beginning of the year Emilia debuted a platinum blonde hairstyle, but I would really love to see her back to her dark brown locks again with this look styled in a sleek updo. Finishing the look with smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Artisteric’ PVC paneled strappy sandals, and an antique Victorian red spinel and diamond cross pendant necklace on a black ribbon from Beladora would all ensure that Emilia has a triumphant return to the Met Gala red carpet. Jennifer Lopez topped not just my Best Dressed at the Met Gala, but also my Best Dressed of 2017 lists last year with the robins egg blue Valentino Couture gown that she wore for last years red carpet. She was an absolute goddess. Everything about that look screamed glamour and elegance. Of course JLo is no stranger to dramatic looks on the Met Gala red carpet. I have never not loved something she has worn on this red carpet. She has rocked designers including Atelier Versace, Michael Kors, Gucci, Zuhair Murad, Alberta Ferretti, Marchesa, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana since she first walked the (then un-red carpeted) Met steps back in 2004. I am praying for another really dramatic moment this year. With her close friendship with Donatella Versace (one of this years gala co-hosts) it wouldn’t surprise me if Jennifer once again rocks the iconic Italian brand on the red carpet. But instead I went in a different direction, a really flashy, sexy, and dramatic direction. I feel like this red Naeem Khan Fall 2018 RTW ensemble which consists of a sequined fringe sheer long sleeve jumpsuit paired with a silk overskirt which features a high-rise waist, tie at the waist, and a ball gown silhouette is definitely something that Jennifer would be drawn to. It does give more of a performance vibe than a red carpet vibe, but I think that if anyone could blur those lines that would be Jennifer. Yes the look is very typical of the looks I groan about Jennifer always wearing on the stage, but I think she would own it on the Met steps especially when styled with a sleek updo, red lips, smokey eyes, red Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ crystal embellished PVC pumps, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond and ruby chandelier earrings.Lorde has been going to the Met Gala since before she was a star. Before her song “Royals” jettisoned to the top of the charts she was invited to the Met Gala, and wore Chanel. Sadly there are no pictures of her on that red carpet. I learned about it a long time ago when apple radio just started and Katy Perry had curated a playlist and she talked about meeting Lorde for the first time. She has been documented on the Met Gala red carpet twice since then wearing Calvin Klein Collection in 2015 and Valentino ready-to-wear in 2016. I have long been intrigued by Lorde’s style and I am really hoping that since this years gala takes place on her break between the North American leg of her Melodrama World Tour and the kick off of the European leg that she will be on this years red carpet. She has really wowed me a lot over the last year or so and I am really hoping that she will own the red carpet this year. I think that this black Maticevski Fall 2018 RTW ensemble which consists of a midi gown which features a round strapless neckline and a pleated skirt as well as a cocoon shaped cape with an exaggerated shoulder, ruching at the shoulder, and pleating in the back would be a really creative and beautiful moment for Lorde to bring to this red carpet. She has been proponent of the princess gown recently, but I think that this would be a really dramatic and chic change of pace for her. Style it with her signature tight curls, defined eyes, nude lips, a pair of black suede and silver glitter Stella Luna pointed toe pumps, and a statement Cartier High Jewelry diamond necklace to really ensure that this is yet another really major moment for her. Saoirse Ronan had an amazing run this awards season. She definitely delivered on on absolutely every red carpet she stepped onto from the AFI Awards to the Oscars. It makes me want to see more of her and I am hoping that the Academy Award Best Actress nominated starlet will be on the Met Gala red carpet this year. Saoirse has never landed on my Met Gala best dressed list, actually quite the opposite, wearing custom Christopher Kane and Rodarte for past red carpets. This newfound glamour that Saoirse has rocked this year is really inspiring for me and I think that this could be the year that she owns the red carpet. Usually on the Met Gala red carpet we see two or three ladies walk the red carpet with Stella McCartney, I call them Stella’s angels, and this year I want Saoirse to be one of them. I think that she would be the epitome of old Hollywood glamour wearing this black Stella McCartney silk cady gown which features crystal-embellishment through the bodice and a plunging twisted neckline. This might not be the biggest, most avant garde, or on theme gown, but I think that it would be a really glamorous moment for Saoirse. Finish the look with a sleek bob, simple defined eyes, red lips, a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Winona’ floral sequin embroidered sandals, and Cartier High Jewelry ruby and diamond drop earrings to ensure head to toe glam.

The 2018 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. May 7, 2018.
