The drama of the Met Gala red carpet can be hard to live up to. Iconic looks like Claire Danes in custom Zac Posen, Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa, Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere, and Rita Ora in custom Vera Wang all are some of my favorite moments on the Met Gala red carpet. I am hoping that there will be another iconic moment will walk up the Met steps this year.It has been three times that Amy Adams has walked those famed steps and I would love to see her on the red carpet again this year. She has worn Oscar de la Renta, Giambattista Valli, and L’Wren Scott in past years and I think she would look gorgeous on this red carpet wearing this white Ralph & Russo Fall 2017 Couture pleated, tiered, caped, beaded gown. Ralph & Russo isn’t the most expected designer for the Met Gala red carpet. Only two people have worn the brand on this iconic red carpet. Arizona Muse and Janelle Monae both wore big beautiful ballgowns and they totally worked. I think that this white gown is beautiful and while we will see a lot of black, white, and red on this red carpet I think that this would be a really beautiful moment for Amy. She shocked me wearing a Christian Siriano re-run for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party so I feel like anything is possible. The gown is a statement all on its own and I think that with a pair of silver Gianvito Rossi strappy sandals, sleek low bun, simple makeup, and a pair of Chopard diamond chandelier earrings that Amy would be a beautiful moment. Diane Kruger is one of my queens of the red carpet. She has been pretty loyal to the brands she loves wearing Chanel (in 2015, 2013, & 2009), Prada (in 2017 and 2012), BOSS, Jason Wu, Calvin Klein, and Alberta Ferretti. I went back to Jason Wu for the gown I want to see Diane wear on the red carpet this year. She has owned each of her looks and with her friendship with Jason being as close as she is. I saw this black silk tulle fan pleated Jason Wu Fall 2018 RTW a-line gown which features scattered multicolored sequin embroidery. When I first watched this gown come down the runway Diane was the first person to come to mind. While she might be a little short for what most people would expect the wearer of this gown to be I think that Diane has more than enough presence to really make this an absolutely beautiful moment on the red carpet. I think that pairing this gown with a romantic updo. defined eyes, rose pink lips, a black crystal encrusted Judith Leiber Couture slim slide rectangle clutch, black Rene Caovilla strappy sandals, and a pair of white and yellow diamond Harry Winston drop earrings all would ensure that this is a really glamorous moment for the gorgeous German actress. Last year Halsey was major, but surprisingly she wasn’t invited to the Met Gala. I am praying that she will be back on the red carpet again this year. She made her Met Gala red carpet debut back in 2016 wearing a custom white DKNY suit by the designers of Public School. That was a really cool look, but since then her style has really evolved. I went against the theme in favor of fetish-wear inspired Christopher Kane Fall 2018 RTW. This look which consists of a stretch lace bodysuit which features a scalloped V-neckline and draped lace at the cuffs and a plastic lace skirt which features feather detailing at the hem and a maxi length screams Halsey to me. She knows how to do this hyper sexual look without being slutty or trashy and I really think she is one of the only people who could actually sell this look to me on a red carpet. The look is such a statement and I think that when paired with a sleek pixie, smokey eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Giuseppe Zanotti embellished double strap pearl embellished sandals with a PVC foot strap, and Eva Fehren Fine Jewelry including black diamond ‘The X’ stud earrings and a grey diamond ‘The XX’ cocktail ring would all ensure that this look screams sexy, sensual glam from head to toe.In the midst of the promo tour for Mudbound Mary J. Blige swapped stylists to work with Law Roach and it continued all through awards season. Law is a magic maker when it comes to the red carpet and I am really excited to see what she will most likely bring to the red carpet at this years Met Gala. It was an easy decision for me to want to see Mary wearing this electric blue Balmain 44 François Premiere gown which features a sheer striped bodice, intricate beading, and a dramatic feathered mermaid hem/train. There have been two successful looks from this collection on the red carpet already and something tells me that between the Met Gala and Cannes that I think that Mary would definitely be the perfect person to take this gown out of the lookbook and make it a really major moment for the red carpet. The only thing I would make sure that Mary would have done perfectly is to ensure that Olivier Rousting take the sheer paneling on the gown and make sure that it would match Mary’s skin tone perfectly. This gown would be a far cry from the La Perla gown (if you can call it that) that Mary wore for last years gala. It is the perfect mesh of drama, glamour, and sex appeal. Style it with a pair of matching Casadei draped satin crossover sandals, sleek hair, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of David Morris diamond and sapphire statement chandelier earrings to really ensure that this look is head to toe perfection for Mary. Rounding out today is a gown that I really want to see on the Met Gala red carpet. I know we are likely to see lots of gowns inspired by religious iconography on the red carpet and I am sure we will have our fare share of angelic ensembles to judge. When I was flipping through the lookbook from Jean Louis Sebaj Spring 2018 Couture collection I saw this white sleek gown with gloved sleeves, a plunging neckline, and a plume of organza feathers cascading gown the hip I immediately thought it would make a perfect Met Gala gown. So I went on a hunt for the perfect person to make it work. Usually I see a dress and someone immediately pops into my mind, but that wasn’t the case with this dress. I then thought about putting it on rising star Tessa Thompson and that was the magic formula for me. Tessa has never been invited to a Met Gala, but I think that this is finally the time for her to rock this iconic red carpet. The gown is such a statement on its own that I would keep the focus on that styling it with a pair of transparent plexi Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Picard Shining’ crystal studded sculpted wedge sandals, sleek updo, defined eyes, red lips, and a pair of Tiffany & Co. by Jean Schlumberger diamond wing earrings could turn this into a potentially iconic red carpet moment.
The 2018 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. May 7, 2018.
