2018 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

The Met Gala is just a few weeks away and I know stylists are already fitting custom and runway gowns for what it arguably the most fashionable night in the world. Rumor has it that there were 600 invitations that went out this year. So far I know Anna Wintour, Bee Shaffer, Rihanna, Amal Clooney (and assuming George as well,) Donatella Versace, Andrew Bolton, Thom Browne, Sarah Jessica Parker, Andy Cohen, and Hailey Baldwin are all planning on attending this years gala. I have to say that as I am really hoping that the scope of brands on the red carpet is better this year than last. It seemed like everyone wore Calvin Klein, Topshop, H&M, Ralph Lauren, and Versace. Not all of the I miss the days where it there were one or two, three at the most, looks from a designer. I would like to see a return to that this year. Amber Heard has been a guest at the Met 4 times; wearing Ralph Lauren, Giambattista Valli Couture, Emilio Pucci, and Zac Posen. I would love to see Amber rocking the red carpet in this black Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture structured midi gown which features a white trimmed structured portrait neckline, short structured skirt layered under a long sheer midi skirt. It gives me vibes of a couture nuns habit and I think that if anyone could really sell this look in a really sexy and glamorous way that Amber would make it a really beautiful moment. This structured gown is such a statement but the styling will really make it a really major moment. I think that with a sleek updo, defined winged eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Givenchy ‘Shark Tooth’ platform peep toe sandals, and a selection of Anita Ko jewels including mismatched earrings including a black diamond ‘Orbit’ earring and white diamond swag ‘Bianca’ loop earring and a selection of mismatched rings including a white diamond ‘Medium Leaf’ ring, diamond ‘Pinky’ coil ring, and a two finger ‘Marquis’ bar ring this could just well be one of the best executed, on theme moments of the night.Danai Gurira is one of my favorite rising style stars. She knows how to hold her own against many of the biggest names in the world including her Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong’o. I am hoping that this year will be Danai’s second appearance on the Met Gala red carpet. The first time was back in 2016 where she wore a gorgeous white Giambattista Valli Couture gown with white colored hair. That was an eye catching moment that very loosely played to the theme of technology and fashion. For this years red carpet I decided that I wasn’t going to go on theme, but rather put Danai in a gown from gala co-chair Donatella Versace. I have been searching for the right time and person to use this bronze Atelier Versace Fall 2017 Couture caped gown which features sheer construction, intricate beading, and cutout designs. Before a model snatches this gown up and delivers it in a really tacky manner on the red carpet in Cannes I want to see Danai grab it and make it a warrior glam moment. I could have very easily seen Danai snatch this up for the Black Panther promo tour, but I think that the Met Gala red carpet would be just as good of a platform. I think that when paired with a smokey eye, dark berry (almost black) lip, a pair of dark gold Gianvito Rossi metallic strap sandals, and Joan Horning ‘Marilyn’ gold and rock crystal earrings that this would be another personal best for Danai. I’m not sure if the pants trend that Evan Rachel Wood started last year is still a thing, but I have to say that an actress wearing pants on the Met Gala red carpet will come as a welcome change of pace. I really hated Evan’s Altuzarra look that she wore last year, but I think a lot of that had to do with the really bad hair and makeup that she opted to wear with that look. I know she has the potential as seen by the gorgeous bordeaux Gucci Premiere gown she wore in 2011. I wanted drama for her to rock this year and that is exactly what I got from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Spring 2018 Couture bride. Sometimes we see the ‘La Marie’ taken off the runway and worn on a red carpet and I think that this white tuxedo with dramatic feathered sleeves and a dramatic feathered train would really be a statement moment for the Met Gala red carpet, that still stays on the theme. I think that this dress is a statement all on it’s own so styling it with a pair of white Marc Fisher crochet embroidered peep toe booties, a sleek hairstyle, defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a pair of simple Chanel Fine Jewelry diamond bow earrings would all ensure that the look isn’t overwhelming and Evan shines through. At 14 Millie Bobby Brown is the same age that Hailee Steinfeld was the first time she attended the Met Gala. Over the last year Millie has captured the love of the fashion industry, and it would shock me if she wasn’t brought to this years gala by Raf Simons and Calvin Klein. She has been a face of the Calvin Klein ad campaign and I know that she (if attending) will definitely wow. She knows how to hold her own against mega watt stars like Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, and Lupita Nyong’o. She is a fashionista. There is no denying it. I would imagine that whatever Millie would wear for the Met Gala would be custom designed for her. I did however pick a Calvin Klein dress off the rack with this black sequined halter top and a white flare cotton-blend skirt dress. It is similar to the custom Calvin Klein that Sarah Paulson wore to the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, but Calvin Klein has reworked similar styles for other looks so I think that this could be a really chic moment for Millie. I would add a pop of color via a pair of light blue Calvin Klein cut out pumps and finishing the look with a sleek updo, defined eyes, nude lips, and a selection of Messika jewels including mismatched ‘Mata Hari’ diamond feather earrings and a ‘Roaring Diamonds’ bracelet to ensure it is a really beautiful moment for the young star.Tracee Ellis Ross made her first Met Gala appearance last year and was one of the few who showed up wearing Comme des Garçons. It was also the first time that she and stylist Karla Welch worked together, and it has been magic ever since. I decided that since almost all of Karla’s girls have worn Louis Vuitton in the past that this would be the perfect occasion for Tracee to have her first Louis Vuitton moment. I took this white tiered silk cocoon dress from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2018 RTW collection (which was presented as a knee length dress) and had it lengthened to be a floor length gown. While I feel like for most events and on most people I would probably hate this gown I think that for the theme of this years Met Gala and the regality that Tracee carries herself with that this would be a really chic moment. Add a sleek low bun, simple defined eyes, red lips, a silver and black Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ clutch, black Christian Louboutin ‘Choca’ patent leather sandals, and Nikos Koulis jewels including a pair of diamond, emerald and black enamel art deco inspired drop earrings and a black enamel snake ring with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies to really ensure that this is a really beautiful moment, head to toe.

The 2018 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. May 7, 2018.
