2018 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

The theme of the 2018 Met Gala is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” It has been designed to create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art in the museum’s holdings, the show will be presented in a trinity of locations: the Anna Wintour Costume Center, the medieval galleries at the Met’s Fifth Avenue location, and further uptown at the Cloisters. Central to the conversation will be the papal garb on loan from the Sistine Chapel sacristy. I won’t lie I am really interested in seeing what stars will do with the theme this year. There is a big possibility that people will offend with the over use and distasteful use of religious iconography and I am hoping that will be kept to an absolute minimum. Adwoa Aboah has really had her style star rise over the course of the last year. She is one of the most coveted models in the industry right now and it would shock me if she isn’t invited to this years Met Gala. She has attended the last two years wearing Connor Ives and Calvin Klein and this year I would love to see Adwoa be one of Zac Posen’s dates. I think that she would definitely own this black Zac Posen Fall 2018 RTW ensemble which is made up of an abstract pleated opera coat which features long sleeves, pleated abstract ruffle detail, and a train at the back and an off the shoulder gown which features short sleeves, and a fitted mermaid silhouette. The coat is definitely the statement part of the look and what I love about it is that it can be removed to allow for Adwoa to eat the dinner and move in a less restricted manner. I think that this ensemble paired with defined eyes, nude lips, black Versace embellished cross mules, and a pair of fire opal Katherine Jetter pendant earrings all would ensure that this is a gorgeous moment for Adwoa. Ciara’s 2016 custom H&M gown from the 2016 Met Gala red carpet could definitely get a repeat if she were to dare to try as I think that it would fit in perfectly with the theme of this years gala. It was a sexy gown and who knows maybe Andrew Bolton (the Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute) snatched the gown up for the exhibit. I am not advocating for Ciara to wear it again, because I would really love to see her give sleek, dramatic glamour a go wearing this ivory Giambattista Valli Spring 2018 Couture caped gown which features a fitted bodice, a-line skirt, and a turtleneck. I could definitely see someone grabbing this gown and equivocating it with a couture take on papal robes. I could definitely see this being one of my favorite looks of the night on Ciara with a sleek low bun, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of off white Jimmy Choo ‘Viola’ crystal embellished satin sandals with a feather tassel, and a statement vintage Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and pearl necklace layered over the bodice.  Greta Gerwig had a pretty major awards season as the director of her debut film Ladybird and something tells me she will be on the Met Gala red carpet this year. She has attended in years past wearing designs from Prabal Gurung, Saint Laurent, and Theyskens Theory. This year I decided to go back to the same brand that dressed her for the Oscars, Rodarte. The gorgeous feminine glamour of the brand is perfect for Greta and I think that she would absolutely shut down this white custom Rodarte Fall 2018 RTW strapless gown which features a black and white poinsettia embroidered bodice and a tiered skirt. In the lookbook this was actually portrayed as a two piece cocktail ensemble and I think that attaching the bodice to the skirt and adding some extra layers to rock on the Met Gala red carpet. It really isn’t on the “theme” but it is a really glamorous moment for Greta to rock on the Met Gala red carpet. I think that a romantic updo, defined eyes, pink lips, white Aquazzura ‘Nathalie’ crisscross leather sandals, and a pair of Cartier high jewelry diamond and colored stone floral fringe earrings would all add to the romantic glam of this red carpet moment for Greta to rock on the Met Gala red carpet.  In the past five times Naomi Campbell has been on the Met Gala red carpet she hasn’t exactly delivered a really major moment. She has worn Alaia, Roberto Cavalli Couture, Burberry, Givenchy Couture, and Alexander McQueen and despite those major names none of the looks have been major. As Donatella Versace is the designer co-host of this years gala that I think it is extremely likely that Naomi will be one of the lovely ladies dressed by Versace for the evening. The brand didn’t release a lookbook for the Atelier Versace Spring 2018 Couture collection, but thanks to the magic of social media we still have an idea of what the collection looks like. I would love to see Naomi deliver this regal Atelier Versace Spring 2018 Couture gown which features a heavily crystal embellished bodice and a gold embroidered red satin skirt. It is definitely more of a regal princess moment than we are used to seeing Naomi to rock on a red carpet, but I definitely think that she would own this gown on the red carpet. She could perhaps be one of my favorite red carpet moments of the night. I think that with her signature sleek center parted hair, smokey eyes, red lips, and black and gold Tom Ford metallic ankle-tie sandals would ensure this is a beautiful moment.Zoe Kravitz is the face of Saint Laurent and she has been one of the only stars to make some of the more avant garde designs from the brand work on the red carpet. I decided to go short for her to rock on the Met Gala red carpet this year, which would be a total contrasting look to the custom pink Oscar de la Renta gown she wore last year. I think that she would rock this black velvet Saint Laurent Fall 2018 RTW mini dress which features bell shaped sleeves with tassel details. It isn’t a the typical dress what we are used to seeing on the Met red carpet, but I think it would totally work. I think that with a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Iris’ patent leather sandals with dramatic feather details, sleek hair, defined eyes, red lips, and a statement Cartier high jewelry diamond collar necklace would still be a chic moment despite it’s lack of dramatic tulle princess skirt and long train.

The 2018 Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. May 7, 2018.
