Before I delve back into my Oscar night wishes I have one more event I want to make some wishes for, the 2018 Costume Designers Guild Awards. I don’t know if it’s the fact that the guild invites the most glamorous women or if that its the pressures of being in the same room as creative fashion minds, but stars usually bring their A-game to this red carpet. I am really interested in seeing what the stars will bring this year, there are so many stars from all of the nominated movies and shows that I really want to see bring their brand of glamour to this red carpet. Get Out is nominated for Excellence in Contemporary Film and if I were to guess I would say that Allison Williams will be on hand to celebrate the films costume designer Nadine Haders. Allison has been on a lot of the red carpets this awards season to support the nominated members of the cast and crew. She has been killing her fashion choices for the most part and I would love to see her deliver chic, feminine glamour on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet with this black Marchesa gown which features a straight across neckline with pearl straps, tulle skirt with pearl beaded fringe, black silk bow details, and a midi length silhouette. I think that this chic dress is totally elevated via all the pearl details on the neckline and down the skirt. The dress is such a statement on its own that I would only add a sleek updo, smokey eye, rose pink lip, and a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Lola’ pearl sandals to really ensure that this is just another really chic moment for Allison. Daisy Ridley is definitely one of my favorite rising style stars and she has been experimenting with brands and styles recently and I feel like she would be a perfect person to see on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet to support Michael Kaplan the costume designer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I think that going short and flirty with this blue Armani Prive Spring 2018 Couture strapless mini dress which features a hand painted floral print, feather embellishments, and a peplum bow would be a very chic moment for Daisy to rock on this red carpet. It is dramatic and flirty, but also youthful and elegant and I think that would all add up to a really chic moment for the British actress to rock on this red carpet. I would reference the movie by pairing this dress with a pair of silver Christian Louboutin curved heel pumps from his capsule collection inspired by the film. To round out the look I think that a loose updo, navy smokey eyes, and light pink lips would ensure that this is a really beautiful moment. It would honestly surprise me if Jacqueline Durran doesn’t take home the Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film award for her amazing costumes from Beauty in the Beast. The costumes in that movie left me breathless and I would imagine that the films Belle, Emma Watson, would be the one to show up to support her her iconic costume designer. Emma has been giving looks over the last year that are really chic and glamorous and I am keeping that up with this dark gold Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2018 fully sequined gown. Emma has been one of the few who has worn a Dior look by Maria Grazia Chiuri and really made me fall in love and I definitely think that this gown would be another beautiful moment for Emma. It isn’t a ground breaking design, but on this red carpet I didn’t want to go for anything too big or dramatic because it really isn’t Emma’s night after all. I like to keep things simple for this red carpet and since this gown is a statement all on its own I would just have Emma style her hair into a romantic updo adding defined eyes, rose pink lips, and a pair of black Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Mira’ pearl and lace pumps. Gina Rodriguez is hosting this years Costume Designers Guild Awards and I am interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpet. She has never been one of the big stars on the red carpet, but there have been a few moments that I really loved like the Zac Posen gown she wore for the Golden Globe Awards and the Cristina Ottaviano gown she wore at the LA premiere of Annihilation. I think that Gina would be so extremely glamorous wearing this eggplant purple Georges Hobeika Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features an one shoulder neckline, beaded draped scarf detail, and a fitted silhouette. I think that this color would look amazing on Gina and that this simpler style of this gown is definitely something that would turn her into a real style star on this red carpet. I think that to really make this a perfect moment for Gina that she should style this gown with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, a matching purple lip, gold and silver glitter Casadei ‘Blade’ cutout detail peep toe pumps, and a pair of IVY New York purple spinel and diamond drop earrings. Kerry Washington will be honored with the Spotlight award this year. The Spotlight Award honors an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. I would say that with the influence that her on screen style as Olivia Pope in Scandal has had that Kerry fits the bill perfectly. While I went rather simple for some of the other stars I went for a real wow moment for Kerry. I think that she would definitely bring this black Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Couture tulle ball gown which features floral embroidery, illusion panels on the shoulders, a v neck, sleeveless bodice, and a ball layered tulle ball skirt to life on the red carpet. If anyone can get away with a big dramatic moment like this on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet it would have to be Kerry. She knows how to take a really big dramatic gown like this and really make it work despite her petite frame. I think that pulled back teased out curls, smokey eyes, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Twistissima Strass’ crisscross mesh embellished pumps, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond waterfall earrings would ensure that this look is head to toe dramatic perfection. For the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet I want to see I, Tonya star Margot Robbie to support the films costume designer and Excellence in Contemporary Film nominee Jennifer Johnson on the red carpet giving us some figure skater realness. I feel like for any other red carpet I would never have thought of this black feathered Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture mini dress which features a sheer embellished bodice, feathered shoulders and skirt, and a lace train for Margot, but I feel that this dress (which borders on a costume itself) would be a really chic way to pay homage to the vibe of the movie. The look is such a statement on its own that I would want Margot to keep the styling really simple with a sleek updo, defined eyes, nude lips, and a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ metallic pointed toe pumps.
The 2018 Costume Designers Guild Awards are Tuesday February 20, 2018.
