Today I finish all of my wishes for the 2018 BAFTA Awards this Sunday night. I am always excited to see what comes from the big awards shows during awards season and this one will be no different. The red carpet blackout is back for the British version of the Oscars and it will be interesting to see how it compares to the sea of black that was the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards. There is one big name that might not show up wearing a black gown and that is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Catherine will be guests on Sunday night and the internet world has been abuzz about whether or not the Duchess will wear black. The royal family has a protocol that keeps them from participating in protest events, and that is exactly what this red carpet blackout is. So with that in mind I can see Catherine not wearing black on Sunday night. On another hand many of the formal looks that we have seen Catherine wear over the years have been black, so it might come down to her comfort zone. I am really interested in seeing what she will wear Sunday be it black or not. Her recent royal tour to visit other European allies to work on smoothing things over due to Brexit Catherine delivered some really great looks, which surprised me due to the fact that I have never been much of a fan of her maternity style. I would be quite alright if she brought back out the blush pink pleated Alexander McQueen caped gown she wore for a state dinner on that trip, but I don’t think that will happen. I did however stick to her favorite brand by picking this navy Alexander McQueen silk evening dress featuring a crystal diamante embroidery, a caped bodice with fitted waist, and a column skirt. The gown is a little more fitted than the loose chiffon styles we are used to seeing Catherine drape over her baby bump, but I think that the caped bodice balances out the fitted column gown underneath. I would have Catherine style this gown with a romantic updo, smokey eyes, pink lips, a navy Anya Hindmarch ‘Marano’ snakeskin clutch (which is already in her wardrobe,) a pair of navy Jimmy Choo ‘Lana’ sandals, and simple Kiki McDonough ‘Candy Mini’ blue topaz and diamond drop earrings to really ensure that this look is regal perfection head to toe. I read that Emma Watson was on the hunt for her black gown to rock on the BAFTA Awards red carpet Sunday night, and it doesn’t surprise me that she will be there. Emma has been a staunch activist for human rights, specifically equality for women and women’s rights. So I am hoping that she delivers something really chic. I was disappointed in the overly contrived Ronald Van Der Kemp gown that Emma wore for the Golden Globes, and I want to see something much sleeker and sexy for this red carpet. Being a feminist and supporting causes that stand up to domestic violence against women doesn’t mean that you can’t deliver sexy looks on the red carpet, and if anyone knows that its Emma. I definitely think that she would look so chic on the BAFTA Awards red carpet on Sunday wearing this simple black Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features an asymmetrical neckline, single long sleeve, fitted silhouette, and a daring side split. The gown is very simple in its style, but I know that Emma’s confidence would really make this look a true standout. I definitely like the gold hardware detailed belt and would add a loose bohemian updo, defined eyes, nude lips, a gold Elie Saab metallic leather clutch, a pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Back UP Tiz’ sandals, and statement fair-mined 18k gold, emerald, and diamond Theo Fennel drop earrings all would ensure that this is a really chic moment for Emma.I haven’t heard if Lily James is going to the BAFTA Awards on Sunday, but with her film Darkest Hour the home front favorite to win Best Picture it would surprise me if she isn’t on the red carpet. I would love to see Lily to give us chic feminine glamour on the red carpet if she does step out wearing this black Paolo Sebastian Spring 2018 Couture tea length gown which features thin straps, a rounded neckline, full tulle skirt, and fuchsia flower embroidery. The subtle pop of color would definitely stand out on a red carpet that is a sea of black gowns and I definitely think that if anyone could deliver this chic uber feminine moment on the red carpet it would be Lily. Add a sleek updo, defined eyes, light pink lips, black Dolce & Gabbana crystal embellished sandals, and a pair of statement Ara Vartanian ruby earrings to really ensure head to toe perfection for the BAFTA Awards red carpet.
The 2018 BAFTA Awards are Sunday February 18, 2018.
