BAFTA night isn’t chock full of hundreds of stars like the Oscar’s, Grammy’s, or Globes but the stars who do show up deliver some really major moments. I am really excited to see what they will do this year. From nominees to presenters to guests stars will be fighting for black gowns again to stand in silent protest with the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements. It was a really powerful moment to see the panning shots across the ballroom at the Golden Globe Awards and seeing a sea of both female and male guests filling the room with a sea of black. It was a beautiful moment of solidarity and I am interested to see how it will translate to the red carpet at the BAFTA Awards and the larger venue of the Royal Albert Hall. Honestly I am shocked that following the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that Daisy Ridley didn’t get herself an EE Rising Star nomination, in fact she has never been nominated for a BAFTA at all. She has become a force to be reckoned with and I am really excited to see what she will wear on the BAFTA red carpet on Sunday night. She is one of the many female stars who in addition to the nominees I read will be on the red carpet Sunday night wearing black in support of #TimesUp. Daisy has really become a style star and for the BAFTA Awards I went a little more avant garde than we usually see on this red carpet by picking this black Christian Dior Spring 2018 Couture strapless gown which features navy and silver peacock feather embroidery, fringe details, and a bell shaped skirt. I think that Daisy would definitely deliver this as a really beautiful moment on this red carpet. It is such a statement on its own I would just have Daisy style this look with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, light pink lips, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and a pair of diamond stud earrings to let the gown be the focus of this look. Emilia Clarke is a blonde now and I’m not sure if she is having more fun or not. Since she debuted the light blonde locks I have wavered on my love for her red carpet looks and I am hoping that when she steps on to the BAFTA Awards red carpet in support of #TimesUp this weekend that she gives us something more interesting than the black Miu Miu gown she wore for the Golden Globe Awards. I think that Emilia would shut the red carpet down giving us feminine glamour wearing this black Schiaparelli Spring 2018 Couture gown which features silver cross hatched beaded embroidery, a tulle over-layer, plunging neckline, and a column skirt. This is a really chic fashion moment and I definitely think that Emilia could sell the sophisticated glamour of this look to me. A romantic updo, defined eyes, red lip, black velvet Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel sandals, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond and emerald cluster pendant earrings all would really ensure that this is definitely a head to toe perfect moment for Emilia. Juno Temple was one of the presenters of the EE Rising Star Award nominations early last month, so it would surprise me if she wasn’t on the red carpet on Sunday. I love her quirky style and I have been wondering how she would deal with the unofficial black dress code for this years red carpet. Juno loves to play with pattern and texture, so I kept that going by picking this Valentino Pre-Fall 2018 gown. The base of the gown is a black peasant style maxi gown with long sheer puffy sleeves, but is elevated via colorful 3D butterfly embroidery with wings made of feathers. It definitely isn’t just a simple black gown, but then again we saw stars like Allison Williams and Mandy Moore infuse color into their black gowns at the Golden Globes, so I feel like Juno could too. I know that this gown is a real statement on its own so like Daisy I kept the styling pretty simple. I would have Juno pair this gown with big bouncy curls, a defined eye, nude lips, and a pair of black and gold Charlotte Olympia platform sandals to ensure it is a really chic moment for her.Kristin Scott Thomas knows how to deliver glamour on the red carpet and I am excited to see what she will deliver on Sunday at the BAFTA Awards, where she is nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. I have a feeling that she might be the one to upset Allison Janney’s chances at an awards season sweep so i went really chic. I think that Kristin would definitely infuse her regal elegance into this very simple Valentino Spring 2018 Couture sleeveless ball gown. The gown is very simple, but on the right person with the right styling I know that it has the potential to be a really major moment, and I definitely think that Kristin could make it that regal moment. I would go full glam with the styling with a chic pixie hairstyle, defined eyes, red lips, a black satin Prada box clutch, a pair of black satin Sophia Webster ‘Coco Crystal’ crystal heel pumps, and a statement Van Cleef & Arpels Haute Jewelry ‘Kingfisher’ necklace made from white gold, round diamonds, oval-cut red spinels, and turquoise to really ensure that this is the most absolute regal moment I know Kristin could deliver on this red carpet.
Zawe Ashton is an English actress, playwright and director and is one the names that I have seen thrown out as a guest who will be supporting #TimesUp on the BAFTA Awards red carpet on Sunday night. Zawe isn’t afraid to take a fashion risk. She has given edgy and bold looks from Julien Macdonald and Osman on red carpets in the past, so for the 2018 BAFTA Awards I went to the queen of British drama, Molly Goddard. I think that this black tulle trapeze gown from the Molly Goddard Spring 2018 RTW collection was a real statement and I think that Zawe could be one of the few who could sell this gown to me on the red carpet. I save pictures from all sorts of runways over the course of the year, and sometimes I save things that I really love but have no idea who would wear it. That was the case with this gown, but when I saw that Zawe was going to be on the red carpet at the BAFTA Awards it was the first thing that I thought of. I would let the gown be the frothy statement it is pairing it with a sleek hairstyle, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of black Miu Miu flower patent leather sandals, and Sarah Ho London floral diamond earrings.
The 2018 BAFTA Awards are Sunday February 18, 2018.
